It’s About Time – Syria Hit Hard

by Jack

The prevailing wisdom around the world was America is a paper tiger. You can kidnap our military people, take civilian hostages, obstruct and attack our ships, you can openly support terrorism against us or engage in costly cyber attacks, we will never do a thing. Doesn’t matter if you are Russian or a two bit dictator like Assad, America won’t fight. We proved it time and again, remember that red line drawn by Obama? Well, boys and girls, when the sun comes up tomorrow there is going to be a whole lotta folks in Iran, North Korea, Syria, etc., wringing their hands and checking the skies…cause they just realized we’re not a paper tiger after all.

Can you imagine that President Bashir Assad felt confident enough to murder his own people with gas attacks knowing the UN would do nothing and he actually believed he had a another Obama in the White House. Obviously, he felt Trump was an amateur like Obama who would not have the guts to actually attack his country with missiles, no matter what heinous crimes he committed.

Trump did what weak knee’d Obama should have been done years back. It was ridiculous that Obama kept waiting for the UN to do something. The UN is a debating society, they don’t fight injustice….they just discuss it.

Obama was a community organizer and a college professor, he never had a clue how to wield military power. He despised our military almost as much as our police officers. The man was absolutely clueless how to be a Commander in Chief and a world leader. Imagine President Dopey praising deserter (Bowie Bergdahl) for serving with honor and distinction…Ha! Well, Trump is no Obama and the world just found that out! Using deadly poison gas on innocent civilians in Syria was too much for Trump to bear and it should have been for the rest of the world too, but they’ve been waiting 8 long years for us to once again lead the way. America is back folks, make no mistake about it.

WASHINGTON — President Trump said Thursday night that the United States had carried out a missile strike in Syria in response to the Syrian government’s chemical weapons attack this week, which killed more than 80 civilians.

“Tonight, I ordered a targeted military strike on the air base in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched,” Mr. Trump said in remarks at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. “It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”

Mr. Trump — who was accompanied by senior advisers, including Stephen K. Bannon, his chief strategist; Reince Priebus, his chief of staff; his daughter Ivanka Trump; and others — said his decision had been prompted in part by what he called the failures by the world community to respond effectively to the Syrian civil war.

“Years of previous attempts at changing Assad’s behavior have all failed, and failed very dramatically,” the president said, referring to President Bashar al-Assad of Syria. “As a result, the refugee crisis continues to deepen, and the region continues to destabilize, threatening the United States and its allies.”

  1. Jim says:

“Now that Obama’s poll numbers are in tailspin – watch for him to launch a strike in Libya or Iran. He is desperate.” Donald J. Trump 9 Oct 2012

“AGAIN, TO OUR VERY FOOLISH LEADER, DO NOT ATTACK SYRIA – IF YOU DO MANY VERY BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN & FROM THAT FIGHT THE U.S. GETS NOTHING!” Donald J. Trump 5 Sep 2013

“The President must get Congressional approval before attacking Syria-big mistake if he does not!” Donald J. Trump 30 Aug 2013

“Glad our arrogant Pres. is enjoying his taxpayer funded golf outing after announcing the US should take military action against Syria” Sean Hannity 3 Sep 2013

    • Tina says:

Hmmm, are you out to start a pull-quote pi$$ing contest Jim?

I don’t blame you for wanting to engage in a little pay back with us at PS but really? On this issue? Obama clearly saw the need to act in Syria and then turned a blind eye and passed the buck creating an horrendous mess:

“We have been very clear to the Assad regime, but also to other players on the ground, that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized.”

“What kind of world will we live in if the United States of America sees a dictator brazenly violate international law with poison gas and we choose to look the other way?”

“First of all, I didn’t set a red line; the world set a red line. The world set a red line when governments representing 98 percent of the world’s population said the use of chemical weapons are abhorrent and passed a treaty forbidding their use even when countries are engaged in war.

Congress set a red line when it ratified that treaty. Congress set a red line when it indicated that — in a piece of legislation titled the Syria Accountability Act — that some of the horrendous things that are happening on the ground there need to be answered for.

And so when I said in a press conference that my calculus about what’s happening in Syria would be altered by the use of the chemical weapons, which the overwhelming consensus of humanity says is wrong, that wasn’t something I just kind of made up. I didn’t pluck it out of thin air. There’s a reason for it”

Obama didn’t follow through on his own assessment.

Obama postured to protect his Iran deal and virtually aligned with Russia and against our allies in his decisions.

Obama’s “strategy”resulted in chaos and the current refugee crisis.

Trump did not “look the other way” when chemical weapons were used. He put his ass on the line and acted. Why is that a problem for you?

      • Chris says:

The problem is that Trump apparently believes nothing he says, or perhaps believes it when he says it and then for no longer. This is what he said during the campaign:

“What we should do is focus on ISIS. We should not be focusing on Syria,” said Trump, as he dined on fried eggs and sausage at his Trump National Doral golf resort. “You’re going to end up in World War Three over Syria if we listen to Hillary Clinton. You’re not fighting Syria any more, you’re fighting Syria, Russia and Iran, all right?”

        https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/04/seven-lessons-from-trumps-syria-strike/522327/

Now everyone is entitled to change their mind, but this is a dangerous level of unpredictability. I have seen many people say they voted for Trump because they believed he was less hawkish and willing to attack other countries than Clinton. Let’s call this another broken campaign promise.

I believe Obama should have followed through on his “red line” threat and that critics are right to say he had “no strategy” regarding Syria. But if Obama had no strategy, neither does Trump.

I don’t know if these airstrikes were the right move or not. I am willing to give Trump credit for following through on Obama’s red line threat. I’ll give him even more if this causes him to change his stance on Syrian refugees. “We are doing this to help you, but we can’t let you in because you might bomb or rape us” is not a coherent philosophy.

  2. J. Soden says:

Yes, it WAS ABOUT TIME! Obumble deserves credit for the majority of the bloodshed in Syria since he developed his invisible red lines. TheDonald found the red crayon that Obumble couldn’t.

There was also another message delivered with the Syrian attack.
That the attack was ordered while the Chinese Premier was meeting TheDonald at Mar-A-Lago should send a signal that North Korea might be in line to get spanked.

  3. Harold says:

So why was it that the landing strips were left without damage, could it be for the Global coalitions to use in the event of a needed further action and the deployment of troops and or supplies.

In any event, it was about time we had leadership with a backbone, and not just a glib tongue of feckless resolve. Hopefully the rest of the worlds dictator bastards will learn the paper tiger regime of Obama is in the past.

    • Peggy says:

Harold, Heard they didn’t bomb the landing strips because they could be repaired too easily because of their construction. They could just be filled in.

Between Trump and Nikki Haley at the UN, we have two leaders with backbones.

      • Dewster says:

No Peggy when you crater the airstrips it is not easy to fix. Think about that. If they are so easy to fix then bomb the crap out of them to disable the airbase. Or why bomb empty buildings? They are easy to replace.

        • Post Scripts says:

Dewster, fixing a bomb hole on an airport depends on how it’s constructed. Most holes can be filled rather quickly. In 24 hours concrete should be strong enough to support most traffic.

          • Peggy says:

Plus, each of those Tomahawk missiles cost a million dollars, which would be a real waste when the damage can be fixed in a few hours.

  4. Dewster says:

    ANd ya fell for it……..

Trump has no strategy in Syria. There is no campaign to remove Assad. In other words, the missile strike was a use of military resources to make it look like Donald Trump is doing something about Syria when he really isn’t and has no intention of doing anything.

Trump told Putin about the strike who then warned Assad……….. Yea that’s real strong

Senior White House officials are admitting that the missile strike against Syria was not part of a broader strategy or part of an effort to remove Assad.

In other words, the missile strike was a meaningless slap on the wrist that was intended to make Trump look strong.

Also Trump violated the War Powers Resolution… It is dangerous when a President waits for no intel, acts alone and violates the War Powers Resolution.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Powers_ResolutionThere is a reason congress was not called back into session to debate these strikes and War

In typical Trump fashion, the missile strike was a big showy empty gesture that was intended to get the president some good press.

Best news is many citizens did not fall for the media Propaganda

    • Tina says:

No Nimrod. The airstrike, which is perfectly within the Presidents powers as Commander-in-Chief, was a response in keeping with the treaty, ratified by our congress, that forbids the use of chemical weapons even during war.

Senior White House officials “are admitting that the missile strike against Syria was not part of a broader strategy or part of an effort to remove Assad” because that is the simple truth.

This action was taken to send a clear message that America’s new sheriff is nothing like the previous one. It was also done in coordination with military partners in the region.

It comes as no surprise to anyone here that you are too ignorant to understand the importance of this action while imagining your own superiority in these matters.

      • Dewster says:

NO you are the Nimrod …

Tina there was no act of War against the USA Get it Right…

EVen some congress peeps are admitting that was an illegal attack

We are not the SHERIFF of the WORLD not the SUPREME IMPERIALIST DICTATORS of the world.

You are clearly following the Propaganda.

You call me ignorant? You are being ignorant

We do not know if Assad or Al Queida launched. Last time it was the rebels yet they accused Assad. This makes no sense. Why would Assad launch an attack when he was winning?

What this has done is to help Al Queida. Close down the talks. Whether I agree or not they were negotiating a deal and everybody was getting a piece of Syria except us of course. The Syrian People are being mistreated in all of this.

They THINK ASSAD LAUNCHED …NO Proof

This was not done with others where are you getting this untrue Propaganda? The UN had just started it’s investigation.

        YOU ARE WRONG. BAR NONE

You are a warmonger? Really? You do not care they wasted 50 Million Dollars or more and all they did was stop the peace talks, maybe upset Russia (or made a deal), and helped Al Queida? The Syrian Army was winning again.

There is also the possibility this is a false flag……. AGAIN we have no proof on who launched the attack and the result of the attack is serving Al Queida. it stopped the Peace talks while they were loosing the battles.

You whine about the Deficit and yet cheer spending Millions on an attack launched in a hurry. An Attack they told the enemy that was coming. We did not disable the airstrip. That in itself is a clue.

There were hundreds of Russian Soldiers in that airbase. All of their Airbases have Russian soldiers housed there.

The 2013 gas attack was proven to have been not Assad……..Yet you ignore TRUTH

Qatar wants a natural gas pipeline to go through Syria to Europe and Russia does not want the competition. That is all this war has been about.

Bottom Line we do not want WW3.

Wait until the truth comes out before you beat your war drums and the Taxpayers are not paying taxes to be the worlds Sheriffs.

Shame on You……. WW3 will hit the US soil…….. Disgusting!

        • Post Scripts says:

Dewster you tend to overreact don’t you? Hitting Syria will not cause WWIII. Syria has been at war for 3 years, many warnings have been giving to Assad about using WMD…. nobody except Iran and Russia give a rats patoot about a few missiles hitting Syria’s airplanes.

          • Post Scripts says:

One more thing, Dewey, you always assume the USA is wrong. Why do you do that? In the latest case you chose to side with a dictator, a known murderer and war criminal, over your own nation, I just don’t get that.

          • Dewster says:

            Jack

You miss the whole game, Hillary and McCain gang want to overthrow Putin, Trump was colluding with him. That was made clear by whistleblowers prior to election.

The details are everywhere but certainly not on corporate news media.

Yes Syria is a Proxy war. Everyone knows that.

So question now is …. Did Trump make a side deal with Putin, or did the Neocon/Libs manipulate Trump.

            I do not know.

Look at the media blasts of Putin says the US is one move from war….. Is that true or is that a Play?

It is on Propaganda media so I am leaning toward a Play.

If Kushner still goes to Russia Tuesday then we know Trumps business plans in Russia are still going on and all this was smoke and Mirrors by Trump and Putin.

Sorry but we are one step away from WW3. The establishment wants it. CIA manipulates for war.

Get off the cable news, find the real truth which is hard to do among the propaganda fest and realize what is going on.

I am amazed at how distanced from real news some people are. Including so called Dems.

          • Post Scripts says:

Dewey, the most important thing you said was, “I do not know” and neither do I. We are too far removed from scene to know for sure, so we have to use past events and current logic to deduce the facts as events unfold. In time those deductions will either stand the test of time or they will fade into oblivion. The 9/11 truthers are a good example of failed belief that could not stand the test of time. 16 years has passed and despite the thousands of hours spent trying to prove it was an inside job, not one piece of evidence or one person from the “inside” has been found. We now conclude that story was absolute bunk. I suspect the so-called collusion between Putin and Trump will also be proven to be bunk. How was it that Putin threw the election? There was no evidence of computer vote manipulation from Russia. There was no money sent to Trump campaign, like we’ve seen the Chinese do for other democrat campaigns. Trump ran a low budget campaign with a small staff. It was kind of hard to hide anything under those conditions. As for the Russians breaking into the dems computers and poking around, I believe that happened and I believe they tried to do the same thing with the GOP, but they had better security. Big deal. We’ve done that and worse under Obama’s failed Presidency.

          • Dewster says:

            Jack

I would love to support this country but we have been wrong for decades. I support anybody when they are in the right.

When have we done the right thing? We have toppled world leaders, started wars over corporate profits, ect ect

The world see us for what we are. The jig is up. Time to be honest.

What modern war have we fought to defend the people of the United States? Name one.

The banks fund both sides of war. We are played like puppets by media Propaganda.

Truth is we have been lied to our whole lives. Declassified Docs have educated a whole new Generation.

The fact you assume we are doing these wars for Democracy while they strip away our rights is mind boggling.

Never ending Wars for Profits. Exactly how did this help us as a Nation?

Explain – Please include the Deficit from war.

          • Chris says:

“In the latest case you chose to side with a dictator, a known murderer and war criminal, over your own nation, I just don’t get that.”

Yeah, I didn’t get when Trump sided with Putin over our intelligence agencies either.

Wait, was that not what you were talking about?

  5. Pie Guevara says:

I thought the Russian and Iranian responses were a perfection of irony. Russia must have hacked into the Democrat party playbook and shared it with Iran.

Whatever you may think of this development (many conservatives, including Ann Coulter, are not happy campers) this much must be admitted — On the international stage Obama drew a red line on and then pissed into the wind; Trump did not draw any red line and acted. Trump saw a video that changed his mind about staying out of Middle East conflicts. I won’t fault him for that but this may spell more disaster, more wasted treasure and more wasted American lives if the situation escalates. Which it probably will. I also expect the international cabal of socialist progressive nations, dictatorships and other stooges to be roundly condemning the US in short order.

Even though it is impossible to not feel anguish and disgust over this despicable and horrific act I really no longer give a damn about the Islamic Middle East or Muslims anymore. Let these violent scum of the earth slaughter one another with gusto. By doing so maybe they will concentrate less on conquering and destroying western civilization. Wherever Islam goes violence, terror, intolerance and social upheaval and strife follows. To hell with Islam. Let the hell holes and repressive violent dictatorships Islam has created across the globe become even more intense hell holes and let the Muslim victims of Islam to solve their own damn problems.

Note: There is one AP writer (Dale Gavlak) who believes the gas attack was committed by Syrian rebels. My hunch is that Trump’s military and intelligence advisors have better and compelling info to the contrary.

    • Dewster says:

The DNC Leaks came from the inside. An American. That s Very clear. Most Likely Seth Rich.

The Hillary campaign twisting the Business collusion of trump with some minor Russian election interference is Overblown.

Hillary Lost because she Cheated Millions in the Primary. That is a Fact. 14 Million People left the Dem party during election. That is the proof. had nothing to do with Russia.

  6. Jim says:

It appears that the Russians and Syrians got word of the attack fours hours before it happened. The Russians knew before our own Congressmen.

There are also reports that the air base is already back in use.

    • Post Scripts says:

Jim, the base could be back in use, but less a few military planes. What I don’t understand is why our liberals are expressing so much concern? Obama laid out the case quite clearly years ago and he drew a red line….thou shalt not use poison gas! Assad, promised he wouldn’t and further allowed western military folks to oversee the removal of WMD weapons. Then Assad broke his promise to Obama, he lied and used chemical weapons and Trump stepped up to protect Obama’s legacy and merely followed through with what Obama wanted, if his red line was crossed. Hey, you libs should be thrilled that Trump is doing what Obama started…now there is true bi-partisanship.

      • Dewster says:

jack actually the Neoliberal MSM has their loyal sheeple banging war drums and got Trump to reverse his position. Look at the Big Picture.

The neocons/neoLiberals want WW3. The whole election cycle Crooked Hillary was pro war, No Fly Zone in Syria to upset the Russians. The want a major war to redraw the borders again. The UN would probably go away as did the League of Nations after WW1.

A one World Gov could arise.

  7. Dewster says:

Remember the 2013 attack first blamed on Assad while the warmongers beat their war drums at Obama was determined to have been launched by the Rebels and Crooked Hillary was mixed up with the gas coming from Libya so we have to wait for proper intel.

  8. Tina says:

Article of interest by Richard Fernandez, PJ Media

Despite the fact that a Syrian airbase was targeted by US cruise missiles it is Russia and Iran that are squarely in the crosshairs of the administration. One hint is who’s cheering and who’s jeering. ABC news says “Netanyahu welcomes US attack on Syria base”. Al Jazeera reports that “Saudi Arabia said it ‘fully supports’ the strikes, adding that it was a ‘courageous decision’ by Trump in response to the alleged use of chemical weapons against civilians in Khan Sheikhoun.” Iran by contrast “said it strongly condemned the missile strikes against the Syrian army’s Shayrat air base.” Hezbollah was beside itself with anger. Russia strongly condemned “the illegitimate actions by the US” and warned of “extremely serious” consequences. …

… One of the targets demolished by the cruise missiles was the talking point that Trump was Putin’s slave. In what must be one of the most astounding turnabouts in journalistic history the New York Times warned that the Syria strike puts U.S. relationship with Russia at risk. …

… Whether intentionally or not Donald Trump has managed to strategically surprise both Vladimir Putin and most US punditry. Suddenly all the problems the commentators worried about turned out to be the wrong ones. Gone is the orange-gutan caricature replaced overnight by a figure at once more mysterious yet also more formidable than the fantasy figure purveyed by the media. Everyone is now scrambling to understand who Trump really is, the one who appeared suddenly in a cloud of smoke. They are hindered by their own talking points. The media was its own worst enemy.

The strike on Syria kicked over a whole anthill of self-deception. The Washington Times noted that “Syria produced a ‘ridiculously huge amount’ of deadly sarin gas,” according to an internal Defense Department memo. “That stockpile, which Obama aides declared was reduced to zero by summer 2014, is back in the news.” David Nakamura of the Washington Post tweeted H.R. McMaster’s asssurance that the Navy’s missiles very carefully avoided the tanks of sarin gas to avoid collateral damage. This could only be possible if the US knew the location of all the poison the previous administration had already destroyed. In belated acknowledgement of what must now be obvious the “fact-checking website PolitiFact on Wednesday retracted a 2014 article that found it ‘Mostly True’ the Obama administration helped broker a deal that successfully removed ‘100 percent’ of chemical weapons from Syria.”

Whatever the future holds, Americans can be assured that our new President is determined to both stand for “our values” and take action when he deems it necessary, even in the face of danger. That is what we elect a president to do.

  9. Peggy says:

I feel like I woke up in a different country with all of the praises being given to Trump by democrats and the media. Even Matt Lauer! “Trump became president last night.”

Obama’s crown is going to end up around his ankles before the year ends.

Here is one Syrian who is very thankful to Trump.

In case you haven’t notice I don’t respond to your stupid remarks, because you have proven your own history to not be worth my time.

The gentleman in the video appeared to be very sincere. Even to the point he rendered the liberal biased host speechless telling his own personal history. That’s why I posted it.

  10. J. Soden says:

And here’s the latest Demwit Talking Points regarding TheDonald’s airstrike, which is also being pushed by BSDNC:

    http://www.breitbart.com/video/2017/04/07/dem-rep-lieu-trump-might-have-launched-syria-strike-to-distract-from-possible-collusion-with-putin

Expect that from BSDNC, but ya really gotta wonder about the lunacy of Demwit voters for electing this clown!

  11. Peggy says:

Interesting study/research done at our nation’s local precinct level. The change over the years is stunning.

The Most Stunningly Detailed 2016 Election Map Was Just Released—Democrats Should Be Scared, Very Scared:

“Since Trump went from nearly zero chance of becoming Leader of the Free World to launching missiles at our enemies, one is left to ask: what trends led to this fate for Democrats?”

    http://ijr.com/2017/04/841803-stunningly-detailed-2016-election-map-just-released-democrats-scared-scared/

    • Tina says:

That’s an interesting set of maps, Peggy. The following caught my attention:

Here is an amazing statistic. Of the 10 blue states that Hillary Clinton won by the largest percentage margins — California, Massachusetts, Vermont, Hawaii, Maryland, New York, Illinois, Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut — every single one of them lost domestic migration (excluding immigration) over the last 10 years (2004-14). Nearly 2.75 million more Americans left California and New York than entered these states.

Saw today that Brown and his Dem legislature will raise both gas taxes and vehicle registration for Californians. That’s a sure fire way to dampen our state economy and boost the exit numbers. Stoopid! Also read that a billion comes right off the top for the general fund. (not roads, bridges, and dams)

      • Dewster says:

Hillary did not win California. She stole it with many other states.

Heck even San Diego won the right to go forward with the lawsuit. I suspect they will loose as the Judicial system is racked against election reform but ya never know.

What we saw during the Primary via Livestreams and real news never hit the mainstream media but the evidence is documented.

No one cares about election reform…

Sad the elections are an illusion of sorts that is why so many people do not vote.

      • Peggy says:

Tina, that info. caught my eye too. Another article tracked Californians leaving are moving to Austin, Tx, Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. All liberal/progressive cities.

They’re going where the jobs are and the cost of living is lower. At least it is in Texas.

Most of my friends and co-workers from the bay area have moved to Nevada. Another is working in Sacramento but bought a home in Reno.

That billion off of the top going into the general fund will end up being moved to Brown’s Bullet Train and the social programs for the illegals that will be moving here by the thousands because of his Sanctuary State bill passing into law. Have to keep those new voters pouring in to keep them in office.

  12. Pie Guevara says:

    1) I often wonder if Dewey’s parents know that they have an obnoxious, toxic, supercilious idiot/***hole troll for a son.

    2) It appears I diverge from the mainstream of opinion about Trump’s Syrian action here but I certainly respect the takes from the Post Scripts authors and those of the various commenters. (Except for the usual suspects.)

RHT477’s “Does this guy’s opinion count?” and link is especially poignant and heart rending and refuels my anger at the inept Obama administration and the considerable damage he did to America’s credibility on the world stage. This sincere Syrian man’s opinion certainly counts, but as far as determinant in foreign policy goes my answer is no. A decade ago my my opinion would have been much different.

Every Friday I read Jonah Goldberg’s email distribution “The G-File.” There are few conservative journalists closer to my heart than Jonah. To me he has always been a thoughtful, steady, insightful voice of reason and sanity in a world that so often seems completely insane. Given the enthusiasm for Trump often expressed in Post Scripts I imagine Jonah is not a favorite in these environs since he has been a steady, strong and consistent critic of Trump and a was an unwavering leader in the the “Never Trump” crowd. I have never been a member of that crowd but I had an easy out — while I could not bring myself to vote for Trump I knew that, ultimately, my vote didn’t count for squat in this Democrat Machine run state. California has again proved me right. (Do not interpret this as I never vote because I know my vote doesn’t mean squat in this progressive hell hole.) I may well have voted for Trump under different circumstances, like if I lived in Michigan and were as pissed off as they were.

Alright, I know, too much information. This post is not supposed to be about me, so back to Jonah.

I would have mentioned his commentary on Trump’s Syrian action yesterday (Friday, April 7) except that “The G-File” is not published on the web until the day after the e-mail distribution and did not want to butcher it with some excerpts and my own commentary.

Whether you agree with Mr. Goldberg or not I think his thoughts and analysis on this development are compelling and well worth reading. I invite the Post Scripts authors and everyone who frequents these pages to read it —

Actually, Pie, I admire and respect Jonah Goldberg (And his Mum) greatly! The linked article is no exception…very thoughtful and I do agree with much of what he wrote. (I’ve never been an “In Trump We Trust” supporter)

Please don’t confuse my enthusiasm or my defense of Trump as complete endorsement. He is not, as I said early on, the ideal president. However, he is:

      1. Much better than the alternative choice we were given (I must remind myself daily).

      2. Making quite a bit of progress where he can behind the scenes (as are his department heads) to eliminate and remove job killing onerous regulations.

      3. Making big changes in how our military can operate.

      4. Making big changes in how our border patrol and police officers operate.

      5. Making strides toward eliminating waste in the bureaucracy and budget.

      6. Meeting with heads of state to reestablish relationships and assert a new direction and approach.

      7. Suffering under the usual cruel, unreasonable, vicious, phony attacks, barriers, and obstructions that any Republican would in his position (Even from his own party) and for that reason alone gets alignment and defense from me. At this point in time I think any president deserves to be cut some slack…he’s been pounded from before day one.

Part of my job here, as I see it, is to counter those who criticize from the left position, the radical position, and the loony position and to correct information that I believe to be in error. I suppose that can make me look all in at times.

Love the James Woods tweet…like his movies too.

Last but not least I agree wholeheartedly with RHT447 about your comments….do press on! I have always enjoyed it most when you share your thoughts and opinions. Keep em coming!

I didn’t vote for Trump either Pie for some of the same reasons you didn’t. I also knew living in this swamp filled with slathering democrats bent on destroying this state and the country my vote for him wouldn’t count anyway.

I’m going to take the easy way out and say I ditto everything Tina said. Since he has become president I do have to give him credit for what he has accomplished in just 70 or so days. The best in my book is his taking on and taking down the media. He has been wiping the floor with them proving left and right their false narratives. His handling of the Syrian attack and the Russian challenge has the liberal media scrambling to cover their backsides.

I do NOT want us involved in another war anywhere, especially the middle east. But, I have to give Trump a pass for bombing that military base. Seeing those kids dying was upsetting to all of us and I thought if I saw a child being attacked on the street would I walk away or would I go help? I’d help, even if I got hurt. Trump had to have felt the same way. He had to help and he did with what he had based on the advise of our best military leaders.

The meeting next week with Tillerson in Russia should be very interesting. I heard the Britain leader who was going to go with him backed out today, so he’ll be going alone. Hope he’s taking a food tester with him. Praying for his safety!

  13. Pete says:

It’s easy to get into a war. The difficult part is getting out of a war. Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Syria. Is it wrong of me to think it’s funny that we bomb Syria for using gas on its citizens, but we won’t allow those citizens, trying to escape the gas, refuge in our country? Except for death, there will be no winners in this event.

    • Tina says:

      No it’s not wrong.

Temporary is a key word here however and it’s been completely ignored! We do need to know who is entering our country, especially in these dangerous times. We do need to tell the world that entry to the US is a privilege, not a right! We do need to make it clear that we expect assimilation! Every nation has that right.

The refugee crisis is horrendous but it is the direct result of failure in the ME stemming from an agenda that I question as either really stupid or traitorous.

The ban is not the only thing being done. King Abdulluh of Jordan responded to (our) media baiting positively:

“Well, as I think the president pointed out, most, if not all, Syrian refugees actually want to go back to Syria,” he said. “And we’re working with the United States and the international community … to be able to stabilize the refugees in our country, give them the tools so that as we’re working with the solutions in Syria, we have the ability to be able to send them back as positive influence into their economies.”

Trump would like to see stability in the ME. He doesn’t favor war and expects allies in the region to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

When you consider the policies (and politics) that brought us to this point over the last eight years is it really surprising that a much stronger stance is now required?

      • RHT447 says:

There is only one way out of a war. Win.

        • Dewster says:

Ah one could say we won in Iraq but the truth is we lost and MIC won.

The ISIS was created, we ousted the entire gov of Iraq some 30,000 Iraqi Military with no job but access to all the left over US Weapons.

Americans paid extreme prices to rebuild some of their infrastructure, went into debt and here at home we crumble into 3rd world status.

  14. Libby says:

We must re-assert D’s earlier report … that Assad launched another attack on that same town from that bombed airbase 24 hours later. Waste of missles, that was.

The Donald must be just so perplexed.

    • Dewster says:

No it was an optics game. Look through history Presidents have even started little wars to boost their ratings. Media is off his dealing with Deutsche Bank and is corrupt business dealings in Russia while running and becoming Prez. Politics is a very dirty world.

Look at the Trump People’s association map. This is huge when ya connect the dots. He buffered himself but surrounded himself with those who buffer. Specifically look at the shell companies that pinged off the PA Server.

Hillary was no Angel and neither is Trump

      • Libby says:

But D, you don’t consider that Assad does have to be dealt with. Do you think it acceptable to just let such a thing pass? I look at it along the lines of dealing with a five-year-old: “you want to lose another 20 planes? … you do that again.”

So, Assad has to stomp his foot one more time, but there is no further spitting (of Sarin gas), and when dealing with the moral equivalent of a five-year-old, you have to call that a win.

        • Post Scripts says:

Libby,…geez, don’t do that!!!! I just fainted and just got up off the floor and read it again…I…I ….don’t know what to say, except that was spot on. (Big hugs Libby)

  15. Pete says:

Hey, I just remembered something that happened a few years ago. Didn’t about 100 house republicans send a letter to Obama stating that he needed to get their permission prior to any military action against Syria? I think this was after a thousand Syrians lost their lives to a gas attack. I think Oboma even asked permission and was denied by a house vote. Please correct me if I’m wrong on this.

    BTW… how long is temporary?

    • Dewster says:

      you are correct

Everybody needs to read the War Acts Resolution

Obama was no angel but it is more apparent how he held off the establishment war monger advisers in a hard fight. These people want to continue the 7 country pipeline war plans at all costs.

  16. Tina says:

Pete you are correct, but the letter was bipartisan.

Newsmax, “Over 100 Members of Congress Sign Letter Demanding Answers on Syria Attack”

Wary of another war, congressional Republicans and Democrats pressed President Barack Obama to explain why the U.S. military should attack Syria and involve Americans in a deadly civil conflict that has roiled the Mideast.

“What is the intended effect of the potential military strikes?” House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, wrote the president on Wednesday as the drumbeat of war grew louder.

Exasperated members of the House and Senate said the president has failed to make a case for U.S. military action against Syria despite the administration’s conclusion that the Syrian government carried out a large-scale chemical weapons attack against civilians last week.

The administration signaled Wednesday that it would act against the Syrian government even without the backing of allies or the United Nations in response to the alleged chemical weapons attack outside the Syrian capital of Damascus on Aug. 21.

Some lawmakers insisted that Obama, despite his standing as commander in chief, cannot unilaterally order military action against Syria without congressional authorization.

The president said in a PBS interview Wednesday that he had not made a decision about how the United States would respond.

In his letter, Boehner underscored that he has been supportive of administration policy to date as Obama has called for Syrian President Bashar Assad to resign and insisted that the use of deadly chemical weapons would be a gross violation of international norms.

Boehner wrote that in light of the administration’s contention that the Syrian government had used chemical weapons against its people, Obama should provide “a clear, unambiguous explanation of how military action — which is a means, not a policy — will secure U.S. objectives.” (continues)

The letter addresses “military action” which to me suggests boots on the ground and continuing involvement. Obama did seek congressional approval (both parties were divided on consent) according to The Hill.

The Atlantic, “Obama Says He Doesn’t Need Congress’ Permission to Strike Syria, So Why is He Asking for It? – The president is touting the decision as a win for democracy, but there’s a political payoff as well.”

President Obama said Saturday he’ll go to Congress for approval before launching a strike against Syria, but he also made it clear that he doesn’t believe he needs anyone else’s permission.

“While I believe I have the authority to carry out this military action without specific congressional authorization, I know that the country will be stronger … and our actions will be even more effective” if the strike is authorized by Congress, Obama said Saturday in a televised address from the Rose Garden.

So why is Obama asking for authority he already believes he has?

It’s hardly a decision without downsides. By going to Congress, Obama is agreeing to wait for days — and possibly weeks — for legislators to reconvene and vote. And, should Congress deny his request, Obama will face similar embarrassment to what United Kingdom Prime Minister David Cameron faced after Parliament rejected his request to use force in Syria. (continues)

CBS, “Congress struggling with how to vote on Syria attack”

Many undecided lawmakers have cited the proposal’s deep unpopularity among the American public as an argument against it. Even lawmakers who favor striking Syria admit they’re doing so despite the intense opposition of their constituents.

“It’s been overwhelmingly negative,” said Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., of the public reaction to his support for the president’s proposal, according to the Washington Post. “It’s unpopular. I certainly listen. I like to believe the resolution I drafted reflects some of the concerns: limited time frame, no boots on the ground.”

Politics aside, many undecided members have more instrumental concerns about the proposed action in Syria. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, said she remains “firmly undecided” ahead of a classified intelligence briefing on Thursday. …

… One fence-sitter to watch carefully: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., whose public comments on the matter have been limited to a statement saying Congress would “benefit from knowing more” about what the president plans for Syria.

McConnell is the only major congressional leader who has yet to stake out a firm position on the use of force: House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, R-Va., Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., have all signaled their support. …

… Some legislators who favor a strike, however, have directly rebutted the fear that U.S. military action in Syria would further destabilize the region. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., warned that the resolution’s failure would undercut the president and embolden America’s enemies. “Once the administration made this call,” she said, “I think there is a real need for us to back it up, or America becomes a paper tiger.”

Consortium News, “Congress Denied Syrian Facts, Too”

Exclusive: While seeking authority for a limited war with Syria, the Obama administration withheld from the American people the U.S. intelligence on the alleged chemical weapons attack of Aug. 21, amid assurances that Congress got all the secret details. But that doesn’t appear to be true, reports Robert Parry.

    By Robert Parry

A U.S. congressman who has read the Obama administration’s classified version of intelligence on the alleged Syrian poison gas attack says the report is only 12 pages just three times longer than the sketchy unclassified public version and is supported by no additional hard evidence.

Rep. Alan Grayson, D-Florida, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, also said the House Intelligence Committee had to make a formal request to the administration for “the underlying intelligence reports” and he is unaware if those details have been forthcoming, suggesting that the classified report like the unclassified version is more a set of assertions than a presentation of evidence.

“We have reached the point where the classified information system prevents even trusted members of Congress, who have security clearances, from learning essential facts, and then inhibits them from discussing and debating what they do know,” Grayson wrote in an op-ed for the New York Times on Saturday.

“And this extends to matters of war and peace, money and blood. The ‘security state’ is drowning in its own phlegm. My position is simple: if the administration wants me to vote for war, on this occasion or on any other, then I need to know all the facts. And I’m not the only one who feels that way.”

Was he asking for “war” or a single strike?

The Congress gave Bush power to do “whatever it takes” when he asked for permission to take the war on terror into Iraq. We are still fighting the same enemy. I don’t know if that permission follows the office of the president or not.

Although Syria is involved in a civil war terrorists are also involved with the intention of growing in strength and power to rule in the region and around the world.

It is my understanding that the President does have the power to decide individual actions like this strike that are not part of a declared war or invasion.

The original idea for a “temporary ban” was two years, if memory serves. It’s become a moot point since the order has been blocked in court actions for now. The courts are overstepping in my opinion.

    Hope that helps.

All this discussion and we still do not know what actually happened.

Now the 2 media sides are

2_ A coalition bomb was dropped on a jihadi Munitions Storage facility where they had stored Chemical Weapons

    We just do not know

I’m not sure I get that refugee’s argument. I am glad Trump’s move has made him hopeful for the future of his country, and he may be right. But I’m not sure why he seems to be defending the refugee ban. Of course most Syrians would prefer to stay in their country, but he must know that is not an option for many of them. I agree we should help Syrians be able to stay in their country, but in the meantime thousands are trying to get out and we can help them by bringing them here as well.

Yes, oh great social justice warrior! Sacrifice American citizens’ lives to import people who cannot be properly vetted. A progs’ idea of compassion. After all, what is a few dead Americans slaughtered at the hands of covert jihadists when we already have so much violent crime of own own?

I have never known a prog who wasn’t a jackass, and Chris is no exception.
