Mass shootings in Chicago, school shootings, and venue shootings all give credence to the widely held belief that America is a violent, dangerous country…that it’s Second Amendment promotes a cowboy-gun-slinging, hillbilly-shotgun-toting culture of violence and mass murder. An official report that claimed 31% of the world’s mass shootings occur in America supported that frame of mind. It gave anti-gun protesters, anti-Second Amendment politicians, gun hating university professors, and left media talking heads legitimacy for their angry guilt-by-association screeds and protest demands for stricter gun control. Some would like to nullify the Second Amendment, others want all guns confiscated, both radical ideas. But the report’s 31% statistic has been found to be false and that makes the media narrative grossly inaccurate and the protests and demands much less valid.
Most Americans are responsible law-abiding citizens. None celebrate the tragic deaths of innocents, they are shocked and appalled.
The black-eye given America by the deceitful statistic and media coverage is undeserved. A new study conducted by the Crime Prevention Research Center proves it. The research center found that America is only responsible for 2.11% of the world’s mass shootings, not 31%! The media should correct the record…don’t hold your breath.
The Washington Examiner reports:
“Attacks in the U.S. are not only less frequent than other countries, they are also much less deadly on average,” said the Center’s President John R. Lott Jr.
The media and anti-gun liberals have heralded the earlier report that suggested that the United States is the world’s kill zone.
That report, from Adam Lankford, a professor at the University of Alabama, won world-wide attention when it concluded that the U.S. accounted for 31 percent of mass shootings.
Lott, however, said that the Lankford data did not add up and he did a deep dive into world statistics to come up with his refuting report.
“Lankford’s study reported that from 1966 to 2012, there were 90 public mass shooters in the United States and 202 in the rest of world. We find that Lankford’s data represent a gross undercount of foreign attacks. Our list contains 1,448 attacks and at least 3,081 shooters outside the United States over just the last 15 years of the period that Lankford examined. We find at least fifteen times more mass public shooters than Lankford in less than a third the number of years,” wrote Lott.
“The world’s kill zone.” That’s an extremely negative label. It doesn’t even make sense considering mass killing events witnessed in other countries. It’s a label designed to place an ugly face on America, her people and their culture. To push a narrative to control and manipulate what Americans believe. But the ugly label is more indicative of an attitude of the anti-American radical left than it is of the American people or our culture. Don’t expect the radical leftists who push this narrative to receive the good news with enthusiasm. They won’t “receive it” at all. They prefer to bad mouth our nation, especially when it’s being governed by what they claim is a divisive racist leader…another blatant lie.

The report is very clear, Libby. It did not find there were no instances of mass shootings in the US. It found that the earlier report was faulty and a grossly inflated number was the result.
I would think you would be happy about that.
The reports both addresses “mass shootings” only. Your stand your ground example is unrelated.
The stand your ground case is a classic case of self defense. The aggressor was a felon on probation with a history of violent behavior.
The shooter at the video game arena, last I heard, targeted specific people before killing himself. Although he wounded several others his intent wasn’t necessarily a mass shooting so that example might not apply either.
Such a contentious attitude!

The woman with the gun saved lives. There are countless stories like this that never get reported. The laws for concealed carry do work to produce the desired effect in mass shooting events when there’s a responsible armed citizen/s.

No nation can pass laws that will prevent the evil that underpins such acts. Not even you on the left have that ability, regardless your imaginings of superiority.
An expectation of a violent crime free world is unreasonable and naive.
In our own nation the cities with the strictest gun control laws are filled with violent murders where the criminal/s used gun/s obtained illegally.
Mass shootings end when an armed person, the police or someone on site takes action.
I think an armed citizenry can make our streets safer. Criminals will think twice before trying something that could get them killed before their mission even gets off the ground.
I’d rather live in that world than a world where criminals are coddled and responsible citizens are prevented from protecting themselves and their families. (Not to mention having the ability to protect ourselves from tyrants should that possibility arise)
Here’s Obama talking and talking and talking after the many shootings that happened during his eight years…not counting Chicago. You would think he, Quinn, and Emanuel could have done something about that city wouldn’t you? (The policies that created a crappy economy under him sure didn’t help!!)
The thing that matters in ant issue is effectiveness. The problem with socialist policies is they aren’t effective. They don’t incentivize toward better outcomes.

USMC “Poolies”
Last weekend here in CO, we conducted a live-fire Program in the serious use of military rifles.
Attendees were all young USMC “Poolies.”
Who have been enrolled by local USMC recruiters, and are waiting for their “ship-out date” to USMC recruit basic training (usually sixty days or less), are called “Poolies.”
My Grandson is a Poolie!
In the interim, local recruiters work with Poolies regularly in an effort to get them into good mental and physical shape in preparation for basic training. Their relentless efforts pay-off in terms of low drop-out rates!
On his own initiative, my dauntless Grandson organized his fellow Poolies into a one-day Training Class at an outdoor range, and a group of local DTI Instructors and I spent a day getting these magnificent young men and women, who have so audaciously stepped forward to wear their Country’s uniform and defend this nation, up-to-speed in modern small-arms technique!
Naturally, we run a hot range. I explained to my young students that they would likely not see a hot range during their enlistment, but that they needed to learn everything they could from us, and then be good students once on active duty.
We brought a number of M4s for them to use.
We worked on using sighting systems, running a trigger, running the manual safety, moving with the rifle, effectively engaging threats at various ranges (including moving targets mixed-in with bystanders), and host of other subjects!
It was an intense day!
Yet, what stands-out most is the way this Program affected me, and my DTI Instructors!
After seeing the outstanding learning attitude of these splendid young men and women, seeing that they are not afraid of failure (they are not afraid of anything!), that they are willing to work tirelessly improving their skills, that they stepped-up to the line again and again, that they literally cannot be discouraged, I’m no longer nearly as pessimistic about our future as I was last week!
My attitude has improved!
It is our honor and privilege to pass-on to this magnificent current generation several millennias-worth of hard-learned lessons.
Later in the year, we’ll be working with the recruiters themselves!
We’re just getting started!

We knew this would happen. In fact it’s much worse than we anticipated. Democrats just don’t think things through. You can;t tell them anything. I mean if we’re going to go into even more massive debt we should at least get something useful for it!
