A fake news website, much like the Colbert Report, published a realistic appearing news article that President Obama had declared Muslim Appreciation Month. Check it out. I don’t know who owns the website, but I have to wonder if this isn’t the work of some leftwing lunatic? It sure was evil. This kind of false reporting that should carry a jail sentence.
Nobody who believed this story should feel bad, there was no way to tell until it was researched.
Jack: “realistic appearing news article”
Sure, if you’re insane.
“This kind of false reporting that should carry a jail sentence.”
Yay free speech! You do realize that if we criminalized “false reporting” on a blog, you and Tina would have been locked up YEARS ago?
Still, it’s nice to be reminded that your “constitutional conservative” stance is a total farce, and you actually don’t believe in the first amendment at all.
“Nobody who believed this story should feel bad, there was no way to tell until it was researched.”
Well, that’s why–and I know this is a wacky, unheard of idea–you should research crazy-sounding news stories before you forward them.
There was a very easy way for you to tell this story was fake right away: look at the site as a whole and determine whether it seems credible. Here are other top stories at the National Report right now:
“CITY IN UTAH MAKES PORN ILLEGAL – 30 DAYS IN JAIL FOR FIRST OFFENSE”
“Astoria California Salon’s Botched Anal Bleaching Results In Emergency Room Visit For Customer”
“Packers Embarrassing Loss to Bengals Linked to Green Bay Bridge Collapse”
“NRA’s Wayne LaPierre: “The Liberal Media Never Reports About All Of The Times That People Weren’t Killed By Guns””
“Japanese Schoolchildren’s Prank Has Devastating Results, Over 850 Dead From Earthquake They Caused By All Jumping Off Chairs At Same Time”
“Why We Should Kill The Mexicans”
Or, you could just Google the term “National Report” to determine its credibility. Had you done so, you would have seen results confirming that the site is satirical.

I mean, really: are either of those options that hard? When presented with a story like this, determining the credibility of the source is the LEAST you can do.
In the past, when I have pointed out that you, Tina, and others here lack the ability to determine the credibility of a source, and that you also lack any basic smell test, you’ve dismissed these critiques and told me that your sources are as good as mine. Do you really feel comfortable standing by that evaluation after this?
You should feel bad about this! Saying you shouldn’t is an irresponsible dodge, meant to protect yourself from any kind of honest self-reflection. It might feel good in the short term, but it won’t do anything to prevent you from doing something like this again.
Oh the horrors!
See if you can wrap your arms around this crime.
An actual (average) human being, engaging in what can only be deemed his hobby, in what is most probably the result of a desire to post something new for friends on the blog to talk about, posted a story in haste that on quick inspection seemed interesting and real. He then went off to do whatever average guys do on a Saturday in September…
…or maybe he had work to do in his orchards…or a family gathering to attend…or a meeting with locals about the state of Jefferson…whatever. The point is, he has a life and obligations…important, time consuming obligations. (And here’s the kicker…nobody pays hem to sit at a computer doing extensive research)
(Sadly, the thing that makes this post seem real is that it is entirely within the realm of possibility).
And then…and then…all he** breaks loose in the tightly wound world of one of our more contentious followers.
One has to ask, as many of you already have, what is his problem? What moves him to stick around to witness things that apparently offend him greatly?
What is his bag, man?…as we used to say in the olden days.
One day in the near future I hope the little punk has an opportunity to experience being CHARITABLE in his dealings with others.
Having a little fun by engaging in spirited debate and disagreement is one thing…suggesting something posted might be inaccurate is another thing…being pounded on by a sanctimonious a** who promotes and defends some of the most egregious liars to ever walk the earth is too much to ask.
As I have said before, you are a guest here, Chris, and you’ve been given an open and fair opportunity to express yourself. Civility is not too much to ask in return.
Again Post Scripts, because they actually believe in freedom of speech, allow themselves to be Chris’ whipping boy. They could easily shut down this hate filled and malignant little snot, but choose not to.
Works for me. In fact, it is admirable. Thumbs up, Post Scripts!
Does Chris even appreciate he is allowed to berate, vent, and heap scorn to his heart’s content while the simple fact is Post Scripts is not obliged, legally or morally, to give him a voice at all? Duh. Of course not!
Jack’s “jail sentence” statement can be taken as angry venting, but clearly when it comes to freedom of speech he and Tina obviously feel so strong about it they allow jerks like Chris to beat them up for giving him a voice! This blog obviously takes freedom of speech very seriously, to the point of a moral obligation.
Chris’ will, of course, be making Post Scripts pay for the error for as long as he can milk it. His will continue feed his ego and some nebulous, half-baked political agenda which doesn’t seem to have any focus outside of bashing the Post Scripts blog. No surprises there.
After perusing the story it became immediately clear to me that it is the work of an unavowed satirical site. I think Jack’s posit that the story is the work of some evil leftwing lunatic is a fairly accurate assement
Tina, don’t ever expect civility from Chris, he is incapable of it. Kind of sad, in a way. I once tried to clue him in by throwing his fallacies and specious personal attacks right back in his face. Didn’t work, the only response was a pathetic stream of denial packed with even more fallacious drivel. He has absolutely no capacity for self examination nor consideration for others. The Chris universe is a full time job.
I suspect the fellow is at least an oblivious malicious narcissist and at worst a compulsive sociopath, but I am not really qualified to make such a diagnosis. In any case, he will continue to behave like he is one, the other, or both.
It is not hard to believe how fast and much traction a story likes this takes hold.
First: it is supportable that Obama is capable of such use of his executive power.
Second: and more disturbing, is the fact that he has become so distrusted by more and more Americas everyday, that ANYONE would take the time to generate such a story featuring his disdain for America and it’s Constitution.
With issues such as Fast and Furious, IRS scandals, NSA, DOJ seizing a reporters records for political benefit, not trying to rescue the doomed embassy in Benghazi and MORE.
It is no wonder that such a story as “National Muslim” month could gather such fast acceptance by the average American, before it was revealed as false. If I was a Obama supporter that one point would cause me to reflect on my support of Obama more than anything else. Obama through his actions has created this problem for himself and the result is that Obama does not have creditability or trust today from the majority of Americans.
Tina and Jack are to be commended for letting Chris express his First Amendment here on PS, but no one has the right to verbally abuse others repeatedly trying to beat them into submission. He’s using his words as fist to take down those he disagrees with.
PS can choose to continue to let Chris post his verbally abusive comments, but from now on I will no longer read anything he submits. I am not interested in watching a dog fight where dogs attempt to rip each other apart. Witnessing a human do the same to another is even more disgusting.
Thank you for your support Peggy.
“A fake news website, much like the Colbert Report, published a realistic appearing news article that President Obama had declared Muslim Appreciation Month.”
And you fell for it … yet again. Did you think we hadn’t noticed the posts have been tweaked?
The real question is, when will you stop being suckered?

I catch about 99% of the stories, but then you wouldn’t see that part would you? You only get to see my mistakes. Please consider that before you go spanking my typing fingers. -Jack
About the same time you do.
“I catch about 99% of the stories, ….”
Good heavens. Do you mean that in addition to that one, there were 99 other bogus appeals to the bigoted sensibility that you caught and did not re-post? Are you telling me that there is a veritable internet industry out to pander to your prejudices?
That’s sad. I don’t supposed it’s occurred to you that you should, maybe, reconsider the prejudices?
And, no, I’m not letting you off the hook. This state of affairs really is not all that amusing.
Re Libby “”
Libby checks in to piss on Post Scripts. *Yawn*
“PS can choose to continue to let Chris post his verbally abusive comments, but from now on I will no longer read anything he submits.”
Well, we all get a little excited from time to time. But, Peggy, there are larger issues here than your comfort. This blog gives Jack and Tina power … the power, for instance, to spread lies and foment war.
It is a patriotic citizen’s duty to question all that sort of thing … ferociously. And it’s your duty to give these things more consideration than you seem willing to do.
And that is currently the greatest threat facing this republic … in my somewhat-less-than-humble opinion.
“This blog gives Jack and Tina power … the power, for instance, to spread lies and foment war.” Libby
Libs, were you kidding? Foment war, spread lies…? You give us far too much power. But, if you were serious, consider this: We’ve published over 21,000 articles and you have disagreed with almost 99.9%. On the other hand we have agreed with some or part of what you said in comments about 5% of the time. So, m’dear Libby on that alone we’re more liberal and open minded than you by a country mile! : )) lol
Now about this mythical power of ours. Okay, our readership is somewhere between 30-35,000 on any given month and probably 30% are left of center given that we are based in Chico and part of the Enterprise Record newspaper and the demographics of Chico are heavily left of center. But, give our audience size…we feel very responsible to all those people! This is why it is the [rare] exception that we publish something in error and we never publish anything we know to be in error, save for April Fools Day. To do that would be a violation of our ethics. It would compromise everything we stand for and we just couldn’t do that, not for love or money! Sure, we have been victimized by a few internet hoaxes, but it happens to everybody if you’re out here long enough and we sure have been…8 years!
To our jouranlistic credit, we’ve never been bashful about being conservative and writing from that perspective! It’s who we are and what we do, and like it or not and we don’t try to fool anyone into thinking otherwise. Now that’s honesty, but for some reason you never acknowlege that?
Now please keep in mind that opinions make up about 70% of our stock and trade. Reporting news facts, with the majority coming from the mainstream media, represent less than 30% of our total volume. If we were power oriented we would be publishing opinions as facts with a reckless disregard for the truth – we don’t! You can say we do, but it doesn’t make it so and we’re here 7 days a week open to fault finding of any sort.
Opinions (left or right) are not lies, they are our opinion, please don’t confuse the two. Soliciting opinions is a prime reason we’re here. We value diversity, and that means we value you.
This has been our policy from day one: This is an equal opportunity, free speech area, where all opinions and contributions may be offered and examined. Now say what you will about us, call us liars, insult us anyway you see fit, but it will not cause us to lose our focus and we will continue to do our best to be fair and balanced and we will still appreciate you. Who else tells you that?
“Libs, were you kidding? Foment war, spread lies…?”
Every single time you re-post that lovely construct: “Islamo-facist” … I’m sorry, but in my SLTH opinion, this qualifies as warmongering.
It is an extremely ugly word, constructed to be ugly, and to objectify and denigrate a people you dissapprove of. This is a component of the early stages of warmongering, admittedly, but I’m not letting it pass.
