Killing Freedom – A Fools Errand

by Jack Lee

Wikipedia is the next victim in the cross hairs of radical Muslims. The free online encyclopedia, is refusing to remove medieval artistic depictions of the Prophet Muhammad, despite being flooded with complaints (over 180,000) from Muslims demanding (and threatening) the images be deleted.

What these Muslims can’t grasp is the depiction of the Prophet is an expression of freedom of speech and we can’t remove one freedom without compromising all other freedoms. So we take the good with the bad, even if it means

offending a dangerous enemy. This is what angers and frustrates the Muslim zealots who seek perfection according to their Koran and would sooner cut off our heads than tolerate our freedom.

On a broader note, there will always those who will abuse freedom and there will always be those who will use any excuse to try to take it away. History has countless examples of despots and fanatics that have tried to crush freedom, yet here it is alive and well. It lives in our hearts because freedom is a God given right. That means the spark of freedom cannot be extinguished, no matter how many wars are waged to crush it. Yes, freedom has been suppressed, but it always comes back because it is never more than an idea away.

The Muslim fanatics who now use fear and ignorance for their own impossible agenda can’t crush freedom; not with threats of intimidation or even suicide bombers. They don’t understand that freedom is beyond their authority to control.

It’s a fool’s errand to wage jihad on critics, book writers, cartoonists or a picture in a dictionary; these are all part of freedom and deserve protection and defending. I don’t know about you, but I’m getting a little tired of these bullies and I think they need to shut up and take a class in tolerance.
