Ever Wonder Why California is in the Toilet? We Have the Answer

by Jack

San Francisco, Berkeley, Chico, are bastions of liberalism (to name but a few ) and coincidentally they are also places overrun with bums aka homeless, all looking for the path of least resistance. Is there any question in your mind why such places are overrun by the bums? Certainly not if you are a regular Post Scripts readers, but for those of you who are new here let me elaborate.

California has great weather and an abundance of wealth and that alone is a huge magnet for the transients of this nation. But, couple that part to our State laws that I call “California’s Homeless Bill of Rights” that make it impossible for cops enforce local nuisance laws. And then add in a plethora of homeless shelters, abundant free food, fast welfare grants, and lots of free stuff and the magnet gets stronger! Then you have the social aspect, bums like socializing with their fellow bums, they want fast sex, drugs and booze and when you combine all these things you’ve got yourself a homeless Utopia. This is one heck of place to migrate too! Don’t believe me – then what else could it be? Do you think the bums are overrunning the little town of Chico because they are coming here looking for work? Hardly! What it is amounts to lots of free stuff here and local liberals that are quick to part with spare change because it makes them feel good to give a buck. It sets them apart from the mean ol’ conservatives who do not wish to support a bum’s addiction issues.

In California the law says it’s not illegal to relieve oneself in public, unless its done for deviate reasons, a tough element to prove in court. It’s no longer illegal to panhandle either, this is now a right. In California it’s not even illegal to sleep on the sidewalk or set up day-camps on the lawn of City Hall or in public parks. California’s weak laws allows bums to urinate on buses and trains and not go to jail. And apparently they can do this in public buildings too, like the State Capitol or the Office of Assemblyman Tom Ammiano’s-D who sponsored the most recent Homeless Bill of Rights which is under consideration now.

Imagine how far we’ve come in 250 years, from a right to freedom of speech to freedom to pee in public?

In progressive California we have laws to prevent cops from using local ordinances to discourage bums from staying too long or limiting their activities such as public urination, sleeping on sidewalks, congregating on public lawns in day camps, drinking in public places, soliciting spare change, and other annoying behaviors.

CA laws have effectively created a new protected class, ultimately providing free access for bums (homeless) to public spaces, parks, streets, transit infrastructure, and even entrances of office buildings and we have to clean up their mess afterwards. So, instead of leaning on the bums, we have too many laws to insure they can remain on the streets and for some of them this is a virtual death sentence. They are the high risk addicts, the mentally or physically ill and they can’t be forced into a treatment facility thanks to progressives who block the police, even when it means the homeless could die without such help.

Of course not all cities have a high bum population like Berkeley, San Francisco or little Chico. It’s because they have a better approach, one that involves community awareness and re-directing their charity to where it will do the most good. They’re united against feeding the bad habits of transients, unlike the liberals in Chico.

Chico’s Homeless Taskforce is a joke, they’re not working for the good of downtown businesses or the good of the community, they are the core advocates of building even more shelters and giving away more free stuff. Our roving Ambassador program is a joke. The bum population continues to grow and they have not abated the problems of begging, vandalism, theft, stabbings, public urination, sleeping in the parks, trash, drunkenness, shoplifting or any number of other crimes on the rise with the so-called “homeless” population.

Many of Chico’s neighborhoods along Lindo Channel, One Mile and Upper Park are inundated with bums to the point many parents refuse to let their kids play outside in the rural open areas. This is what the progressives have done for us. I can’t wait to see what this place will look like in another 5 years.

What? That article in the ER today was too sympathetic for you? (I’m having a crush on Lt. Britt. He’s cute.)

I’m starting to think that Chico’s getting to be a pretty surly town. You know, I’ll bet there’s a significant bit of low-end housing in that town, sitting vacant, cause the greedy landlords want “college-kid-rent” for it … and can’t get it.

Libby, Chico is not the town it once was when you were here that’s for sure. Oh, the same old buildings are still here, but a lot of them in the downtown are now vacant.

The homeless gather in the new downtown plaza everyday, not sure why? But, this is pretty much their place now. Maybe they use the fountains for showers?

They used the one at city hall for washing stuff.

Nobody picnics in Annie’s Glenn anymore because its filled with transients. For the most part these are white trash types or the better educated long hair, bearded, younger types, oh and some younger tattooed up white females with lots piercings.

I believe some of these younger females are into prostitution. I watched them on several occasions in the City Plaza. They use cell phones and I’m pretty sure some are advertising on Craigslist. You might think the local police would have figured this out by now and made an effort to stop it. Heck, its been going on for 2 years or more. No doubt there is some crazies among these transients, but most are able bodied, they have huge backpacks filled with stuff and they camp first class in Bidwell Park indicating they are mentally with it and in good shape. That doesn’t bother some people (camping), but the park people hate it. Lots of trash and human filth left behind.

The worst part remains the same as it has been for the last few years, its the downtown businesses. I know these quaint, eclectic shops are being hurt big time by the transients. People don’t want to be asked for spare change on every sidewalk by raggedy nasty smelling folks that look kinda scary. And they don’t like their cars being broken into! You never know what to expect.

Some of our locals were stabbed by at least one tramp when they refused to give up a buck. Don’t think they ever caught him either. Kind of a stab and run sort of crime. Oh well…such is life in Chico. Guess I’ll just have to adjust to this new reality… say you got any spare change, I need a beer?

    Hey Jack,
I think the biggest problem with having a large transient, homeless, poor and, most of the time, scumbag population in our community is that we continue to feed them. Not feed them with food, but with the money they beg for. Almost every time I go to the mall area, there are “homeless” folks begging, sign in hand, for money and nearly every time there’s someone rolling down their window to hand it over. Yesterday I saw some old lady do exactly that and I wanted to scream. The state’s social benefits are the same in Chico as everywhere else. Our problem is that some of our lovely citizens feel the need to hand out cash. If that stops, the problem will be pulled to another town. I’m glad people donate money to help those in need, I just wish they’d get a receipt and take a tax deduction.

    • Post Scripts says:

Hi Pete, yep, that’s a problem alright. Even the charities around town complain because when people give direct there is no need for the transients to show up to the various help center where they are often challenged to think about their lifestyle and/or given counseling to help them get back into life.

Pete … whatever are you doing in this state? Nevada is the place for you, boy. Or Idaho. Utah.

    So go.

And because WE are civilized, WE will deal with those Nevada, Idaho and Utah will not feed.

You too, Jack … I mean, why not? Then we won’t have to do any more of this wrangling.

    Why ever not?

    And I want an answer.

  4. Tina says:

“whatever are you doing in this state”

    Arrogant, elitist and liberal!

    ” WE are civilize”

Bologna! You use the force of government to take care of problems using other peoples money. At the same time you demean people who actually help poor people get back into the mainstream through charity. That isn’t civil, it’s hands off…it’s impersonal and aloof. You don’t actually lock them away in debtors prisons anymore, just in ghettos.

There’s your answer. Leaving the state doesn’t do it. We want our nation back; we want our state to be prosperous and we want the poor to have better schools and incentives to form solid families again…and to work.

    Start spreading the news.

  5. Pete says:

    Libby,
What’s your problem and what’s your question? The fact remains if you give money to people that ask for it they will continue to ask for money. I get hit up constantly by the local democratic party, so I’m probably more liberal than you think.

I donate money to many local charities for people in need. I’m just saying we do have a problem. I live downtown and the transient problem has gotten worse. Bottom line is…I care about people that care about themselves.

BTW…Did you call me “Boy?” From my perspective it’s a rather racist term wouldn’t you agree?

I will never call you a name.

    • Post Scripts says:

Libby, Pete feels like I do. We prefer to give to charities that offer more than money, feeding the bad habits of transients is not real help. Between my daughter and I we gave more to charity than we paid out in sales tax and property tax for the year! We are not unsympathetic people and we do what we can to help the truly needy. I would hope that everyone with a brain and a heart would give to the charities that will do the most good without supporting drug or alcohol habits.

  6. Pete says:

    Tina,
    I don’t agree with your post…
We have our nation, but you just don’t get the votes you want.

Have I pissed off everybody yet?

  7. Tina says:

Not at all Pete. You are not required to agree and your contributions are welcome.

I think we don’t get the votes we want because so many of us have been duped and taught a lot of nonsense that’s destructive. It’s one of the reasons we do what we do at Post Scripts.

There used to be a guy on a corner with a cigarette going all of the time. He’s not around any more so can only guess he got enough money to move on to his final resting place.
