Big Paper Mill to Close In Bucksport Main – 500+ Jobs Lost

Posted by Tina

Okay, right up front I have to admit it! I’m not posting this story because of the 500 (or more) people that just found out they will soon be unemployed. (Although my heart goes out to them…praying for Republican Senate)

I posted it because further down in the story it’s revealed that the town of Bucksport, Maine has relied on the 80 year old paper mill for 47% of its tax revenue. Nearly half according to Central Maine:

More than 500 employees will be out of work in the third mill closure in Maine this year, dealing a severe blow to the town of 5,000 people, which derives 47 percent of its tax revenues from the Verso mill. (Emphasis mine)

And I thought businesses didn’t pay taxes. Well, isn’t that what liberals keep telling us, “Corporations don’t pay their fair share?”

It’s bunk I tell ya, pure liberal bunk!
