U.S. Marine Reserve Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi Released From Mexican Jail

Great news! A Mexican judge has finally responded to the plight of the American Marine who’s been stuck in a Mexican jail for many months after accidentally crossing the border with weapons and amunition in his vehicle. Brightbart has details of his inadvertant crossing into Mexico and his welcome release.

Former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D) worked through his foundation to secure Tahmooressi’s release. Richardson credited several others for helping in what he called a “bipartisan” effort:

The governor stressed that it was a bipartisan effort, and singled out House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) and Rep. Matt Salmon (R-Ariz.) for “joining forces on this effort,” as well as “the thousands of Andrew’s supporters that have diligently advocated for his release namely via social media; and special thanks to Andrew’s mother, Jill, who has truly quarterbacked the efforts to bring her son home.”

Richardson also thanked Montel Williams, who testified before Congress alongside Tahmooressi’s mother, “for his fierce advocacy for Andrew and all veterans with PTSD.”

“The Center’s Senior Mexican Advisor, Juan Massey and Jonathan Franks of Lucid PR have worked diligently with Mexican officials over the past few months advocating for the safe return of Sgt. Tahmooressi; they will also be on the flight today with Andrew. Today’s charter flight has been provided by the generosity of Johnny and Marty Cope of New Mexico,” the governor’s foundation said.

Richardson “advocated early on with Mexican leaders for a humanitarian release based on Andrew’s PTSD, an argument that was successfully implemented by his legal defense team to persuade the judge to dismiss the case in a court of law.”

Royce called it “great, but overdue, news.”

“I am pleased that both Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam and the judge on the case recognize that Sgt. Tahmooressi did not intend to violate Mexican law, and that his combat-related PTSD should be treated by specialists in the United States,” the chairman continued.

We at Post Scripts are delighted to hear this news and wish the Sergeant and his family all the best. Welcome home Andrew!

It’s long over due. But, it’s obvious it took a long time because the Mexicans wanted to antagonize Americans. Too many of them hate us, they want something bad to happen to us, and any chance they have of kicking us they will, this poor guy was just a patsy.

Had Obama demanded his release early on they would have folded. There was no excuse for keeping this guy in jail this long, he was just a pawn in a bigger game. Obama is weak and worthless leader. The Mexicans saw this weakness exploited that part for all its worth.

It’s about time. He should not have spent one day in jail, let alone 214. Neither Obama and Kerry did a dang thing to free our Marine. And both had the opportunity to when speaking to the president of Mexico, after repeated request were made to intervene to obtain his release.

Ironic we are told that our Marine was held in a Mexican prison for crossing into their country by accident because of Mexico’s laws, while tens of thousands of Mexicans and others who enter our country on purpose illegally are set free to roam our land and receive taxpayer funded aid to stay here.

Add to the irony the fact that some of those illegal immigrants are killing Americans with guns similar to the ones Tahmoorissi had in his truck that is illegal for them to have. Our gov’t let these illegal immigrants go to become killers.

If it’s acceptable for Mexico to uphold it’s laws, then it should be the same for us. And if La Raza and other pro Mexican groups in the US don’t like it, too bad.

  3. J. Soden says:

The really ugly part of this story is that our illustrious State Dept and Prez Obumble/Oblameo did absolutely NOTHING to help out the Sergeant!

There will be no tourist $$ spent in Mexico ever agaian by this family.

  4. Peggy says:

Tahmooressi is free because of the hard work of the NM governor, a hand full of congressmen and Montel Williams. The man sitting in the Oval Office and the one sitting behind the big desk at the State Dept. did nothing.

Wonder if those guns Holder and Obama sent in to Mexico under Fast and Furious had anything to do with why Mexico let Tahmooressi go just before the election. I wouldn’t imagine Mexico’s president was too happy with Obama and Holder. Would also bet F&F is why Obama and Holder never talked to the president of Mexico about letting him go.

    From Fox:

“His release comes after a lengthy, closed trial and a Congressional hearing in September highly critical of Obama Administration efforts to secure his release and Mexico’s refusal to let him go. Tahmooressi said he made an innocent mistake the evening he crossed into Tijuana with three weapons in his truck on March 31.

While his defense rested its case several weeks ago, Tahmooressi’s release came only after a strong diplomatic push from former Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico and Reps. Ed Royce (R-CA) and Matt Salmon (R-AZ). Speaking by phone on his way to board a plane with Tahmooressi, Richardson said the trio, along with talk show host Montel Williams, met with Mexico’s Attorney General and Ambassador to the US, advocating for his liberation.”

Peggy Greta Van Susteren of FOX News is also someone to thank. She was on top of this story early on and is responsible for informing the public and keeping the story alive over many months when no one else would.

  6. Peggy says:

She sure did Tina, I should have included her with those who helped get him out. In fact if it hadn’t been for her informing the people who in turn contacted their elected representatives Tahmooressi would probably still be in prison.

Watching her show tonight and learning the horrors he endured in those prisons is really maddening. I hope everyone knows that Obama and his administration did NOTHING to get him released.

I’m just glad for him and his mom he’s finally home.
