Progressives are a shameless lot. They will use any incident, no matter how tragic, to make political points. And today was no exception. Chauncey DeVega, over at Salon, took the occasion of the terror attacks in Paris to level both barrels at conservatives using ugly vitriol to accuse conservatives of being complicit in every violent act imaginable and of using “violent” terminology against their opponents. Here’s Mr. DeVega:
Terrorism is politically motivated violence against a vulnerable population that is designed to intimidate, sow fear, create panic and alter public policy.
Terrorism is serious business that kills people, breaks bodies and alters lives.
It is not a game.
In the United States, the right-wing media and movement conservatives have for decades consistently used eliminationist and other violent rhetoric to describe liberals, progressives and other people with whom they disagree.
Must we take a walk down memory lane, Mr. DeVega?
Do you mean language such as, “If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun,” because from what I understand folks in Philly like a good brawl. I’ve seen Eagles fans?”
What a comedian, right? Or was President Obama simply acting the clown and playing to his (rough neighborhood) audience? Remember, guys, This “is not a game.”
Maybe old Chauncy is talking about the Ferguson protest group that published a “target list” of “guilty” (white) people and companies. These fine folks of the progressive movement used such encouraging language as:
…violence could not be ruled out if the grand jury finds Wilson without fault.
“Rioting and looting are the tools of those without a voice. The rioting and looting, while I didn’t participate in it, was necessary. Without it we would not be standing here today,” Ali said. “There is no revolution without violence.”
Here’s a man living in America and in full possession of his free speech rights, standing on a platform and exercising that right to use his voice as any other American could! But he’s doesn’t get it. He’s justified so he can’t get the irony of the situation. Violence is part of a mindset that can easily be justified when you have a hidden agenda. (I suggest that agenda is agitating toward division, hatred, and strife)
But…This is not a game.
Moving on, let’s see, could it be that Chauncey DeVega is referring to that time when Louis Farrakhan, preaching to his flock on the Ferguson incident, said: “we’ll tear this goddamn country apart!”
Or I know, it’s that time when Bob Cesca of Huffington Post suggested republican candidates’ faces were “punchable” right after the Roseburg, Oregon shooting.
I’m just winging it here but maybe, just maybe, he’s talking about that infamous Democrat ad that shows a republican violently tossing poor ol’ granny off a cliff. Remember that bit of “nonviolence” brought to America courtesy of the peace loving progressive movement?”
We could be looking back at the time when the Democrat Party mercilessly dragged Clarence Thomas in front of a tribunal to convict him in the court of public opinion of a trumped up bogus charge of sexual harassment. Violence takes on many forms, boys and girls. This was violence against a good man’s reputation.
But, no, I’m sure it was that time way back in 1964…decades ago… when the Democrat ad for Lyndon Johnson called the “Daisy Ad” (video) hit the air waves. It was deemed responsible for sinking Goldwater in his bid for the presidency.
Who conceived of such an ad? What kind of mind accuses his political opponent of doing something as ruthless and violent as casually dropping an atomic bomb? It’s impossible to think in more violent terms than that. Incorporated into this evil ad was the use (abuse) of a child, perhaps the most evil gesture of all. The ad features a little girl about four or five in a quiet moment counting petals as she pulls them from a daisy…one, two, three, four, seven, five…and then the adult countdown to detonation four, three, two….
Mr. DeVega’s accusations can easily be turned right back on him and his rabid, radical progressive friends in the Democrat Party. It’s amusing to me that he hopes to portray himself as part of a pitiful victim class incapable of evil thought or expression.
I just hope the American people can see through progressives who pretend to be above the frey…innocent, caring and thoughtful…when in reality they are associated with violent thinkers who foment violence in others and use people and tragedy to further their progressive agenda. Thumbs down Chauncey…thumbs down.
I just posted this article and look what’s in the news, at Columbia and Yale, a progressive movement of intimidation and threats toward fellow students to join or face the consequences:
Intimidation is violence against freedom of choice…but this “is not a game.”
Excellent blog entry.

This is Obama’s legacy in America, agitation to stir up division and strife.
Re : “they are associated with violent thinkers who foment violence in others and use people and tragedy to further their progressive agenda.”
I object to your language. The Paris attacks were not a tragedy, they were an atrocity. ISIS is at war with civilization, it is time we realized that.
You’re right Pie, the attack on Paris was an atrocity.
But I was speaking not only about Paris but also the activists in America whose sponsors are “violent thinkers who foment violence in others and use people and tragedy to further their progressive agenda, i.e. Ferguson.
On the human side, the suffering of family and friends is a tragedy for the weakness and failed policies of the American president. In fact, as long as liberal/progressives around the world refuse to acknowledge this evil there will be many more unnecessary instances of human suffering and loss and is definitely a tragedy: an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress, such as a serious accident, crime, or natural catastrophe…(or a murderous terrorist attack on innocent people.)

I see the Grand Mufti has also been tutored on Alinsky’s rules.
After reading the Salon hit piece, one has to wonder whether Chauncy’s rabies shots are up to date . . . .
Why is everything left and right with you guys? Ever just say Americans?
What would you call fox pundits who joke about jihadists sawing Bernie Sanders’ head off after he links climate change to terrorism?
http://www.rawstory.com/2015/11/fox-pundits-joke-about-jihadists-sawing-bernie-sanders-head-off-after-he-links-climate-change-to-terrorism/
I find the hypocrisy amusing
I’d say it’s an absurd but pointed characterization to show the level of insanity reached by Bernie (progressives) with nutty ideas about what Jihadists care about. I’d say it illustrates Bernies lack of seriousness on the one hand and his delusions on the other.
Bernie (and Gore) is just upset that climate change has been kicked off the stage when it was supposed to be the star of the show!
Dewey completely misses the joke, of course. It must be tough being so dang stupid.
