Trump on the Stump: Ban Muslim Entry to U.S….

Posted by Tina

Donald Trump has done it again. He sure knows how to yank the chains of the politically correct. His remarks were jumped on and misunderstood to some degree. The media is abuzz with, “Trump wants to ban Muslims, that’s unconstitutional and doesn’t reflect our values. All of a sudden “our values” are something the left cares about? Hmmm, just a few short years ago they were sneering at “values” Americans share. Anyway, Trumps choice of the word, “ban” was certain to shake things up but he was talking about a strategy to keep Americans safe. He was talking about putting a hold on Muslim entry into the US until our leaders can get their act together to vet them. It’s not a bad idea and it certainly is possible under war conditions to do something like this.

Trumps reply to vitriolic criticism of his proposal: “I wrote something today that I think is very very salient, very important and probably not politically correct, but I don’t care.” He claimed America needs, “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

Unfortunately its unpleasant to talk seriously about what it will take to defeat this enemy. People fear being labeled as bigots…except that The Donald is breaking those chains of oppression and that is a very good thing for America!

  1. Libby says:

I disagree. Giving you all license to indulge your bigotries is not good for America.

And then again, he just wades further and and further into that slough of racist malevolence. You know, we could get the Congress back.

    • Tina says:

No more so than the license you all have to indulge your bigotry.

The tolerance of the American people has given you a false sense of superiority. The truth of PC bigotry is being roundly exposed. You could lose even more seats in Congress.

  2. Steve says:

I’m becoming convinced it’s HOW Trump says things that tick liberals off, not WHAT he says. Jimmy Carter banned Iranians from coming here at one point, and I don’t think anyone on the left would bat an eye if Obama banned immigrants from certain countries.
Saying he would ban an entire religion is a bit different though. It’s a much bigger step and it is sure to raise eyebrows and get people talking. I get it that there are muslims serving in our military and living here peacefully. However there are a lot of muslim immigrants seeking to come here from countries whose national motto is “death to America.” We have a right to ask how people from countries like Syria are going to be assimilated when their backwards culture goes so much against the grain of our own. Obama has left the door open and that gives Trump the opportunity to make such bombastic statements.

  3. Tina says:

Good point Steve. A similar proposal made by Obama would be perfectly reasonable to lefties. It’s not just how he says it, it’s also that he has an R next to his name. I agree that Obama’s un-thoughtful open door policy gives Trump the opportunity to propose a more sensible proposal, it leaves Americans more vulnerable to attack on our soil.

NBC, “Since October 10, ISIS and its sympathizers around the world have killed at least 525 people in six attacks in six countries outside its so-called caliphate. “

Breitbart, “Woman Police Officer Sustains ‘Massive’ Injury, Bitten By ‘Rampaging’, Gun-Grab Migrant Screaming ‘Allah Hu Akbar’”

The left has no interest in talking about solutions. they do politics 24/7/365

    • Chris says:

“A similar proposal made by Obama would be perfectly reasonable to lefties”

Prove it, oh queen of straw.

      • Tina says:

I don’t have to prove an opinion based on my experience, jerk boy.

I do have a couple of examples one of which is a near twin. The other is not as interchangable or obvious but it’s a real doozy!

Take the case of Jimmy Carter banning Iranians from coming to America during the hostage crisis. His proposal was part of a four part effort to pressure the release of the Americans held hostage:

Fourth, the Secretary of Treasury [State] and the Attorney General will invalidate all visas issued to Iranian citizens for future entry into the United States, effective today. We will not reissue visas, nor will we issue new visas, except for compelling and proven humanitarian reasons or where the national interest of our own country requires. This directive will be interpreted very strictly.

It’s interesting to note that his other three proposals are in opposition to Obama regarding the Iran deal.

I don’t recall a single voice in opposition to Carter’s proposal from the three main media outlets, which was all there was…Jimmy was a Democrat you see. The other reason is that there were no PC weenies then…people were sensible!

The other example is the media’s rabid support of the Democrat led climate change hoax with the so-called 97% consensus. There are plenty of opposing views from highly respected credentialed scientists but the left media does little to further their positions if they cover them at all. In fact they join in with the radical climate hoax pushers in calling these qualified people “deniers.”

Proposals to close down (ooops) needed energy producers without a viable alternative (and without consulting Congress) through EPA regulation are supported and promoted by left media too. The idea might be supported by left greenies but the method would be met with howls! You know that its true.

Oh, one more. Bush’s deficit spending and debt was criticized for years by the left and he was excoriated in the media. Obama has been given a pass, or if something is said it’s then excused…or they blame Bush. Pathetic!

        • Chris says:

Restricting immigrants from one specific country is not the same as restricting immigrants of a specific religion. Donald also said he wouldn’t even allow American Muslims who had traveled to come back, which would be illegal.

  4. Dewey says:

HaHa it’s all a game, Trump is pushing his self destruct button.
But in the end the Media is feeding ISIS. The world has denounced Trump. Even Canada who never says anything about our elections.

Tina you fail to see history, who created ISIS and follow the media.

    Sad

ISIS was created by the US. Also if ya want assault weapons readily available to everybody then deal with the Mayhem. To destroy Democracy one must destroy it from within.

    Nationalism…Check
    Racism………..Check
    Massive Surveillance…Check
    Create an Internal Enemy…Check
    Roll back civil Rights………Check

We are being closed down as European countries were. Yet you play to the fear mongering. Sad

Fascism is here and your gun is not going to help you. We will not close down the country for a US created enemy. Keep feeding the recruiters and reap what you sow.

Fascist America, in 10 Easy Steps

    http://www.alternet.org/story/51150/fascist_america%2C_in_10_easy_steps/

    • Tina says:

You know Dewey if you hate this country so much you could leave.

If America is responsible for creating ISIS, it’s responsibility lies in the fact that we foolishly elected an adolescent community organizer instead of a leader at a time when we needed a serious leader!

You’re one of the fools that fails to see who embraces fascist policies. You’re the nut that wants to elect the most socialist (fascist) man in Congress, Bernie Sanders, to the presidency and you’re too ignorant to realize what you’re doing.

If your socialist fundamental transforming allies push Americans too damn hard, and keep doing s#*^ that makes us vulnerable, I wouldn’t count on the gun factor being irrelevant:

There have been 65,376,373 background checks completed for Americans purchasing firearms since February of 2009, the first full month of Barack Obama’s presidency.

The people aren’t just putting them in a gun safe and forgetting about them either. They are taking classes and training. We will protect our freedoms from enemies foreign and domestic…what side of freedom are you on?

  5. Chris says:

Banning all members of one of the world’s largest religions from immigrating into our country because some members are terrorists is not “logical.” It is, by definition, bigotry. And it absolutely helps ISIS, whose ultimate goal is a war between Islam and the West.

Support for Trump’s bigoted policy makes you just as bad as he is.

From now on, every time you complain that liberals are such big meanies for calling you bigoted, I will remind you of this post. And then I will laugh at you. You have embraced bigotry whole-heartedly. You aren’t going to be able to claim otherwise and be taken seriously ever again.

At least some Republicans still have some decency and sense of our values:

““You know how you make America great again? Tell Donald Trump to go to hell. He’s a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. He doesn’t represent my party. He doesn’t represents the values that the men and women who wear the uniform are fighting for. … He’s the ISIL man of the year.”–Lindsay Graham

    http://ethicsalarms.com/2015/12/08/ethical-quote-of-the-day-senator-lindsay-graham/

  6. Steve says:

I’m getting to where the label of bigot coming from liberals doesn’t mean much anymore. They call us racist bigots from the moment we ask where our tax dollars go or if we salute a flag, so what value does the accusation even hold when we’re debating the security of our nation?
Want to convince me? Show me how opening our borders to people whose home countries regularly shout “death to America” is going to make us safer, or help us win the war.
OK, Trump is a jerk. I get it. Let me hear how his opponents propose to keep my kids safer, not what a continued jerk he is. How is Hillary going to make us safer when she can’t utter the words radical islam? How will Bernie Sanders make us safer when he thinks terrorism is inspired by weather?
My jury has been out on the candidates. I’m zeroing in more and more on Ted Cruz. I don’t think Trump should be our nominee but I am glad that he’s shifted the focus of the debate away from leftist foolishness to actual national security.

  7. J. Soden says:

It continues to be just business as usual in DC, which is why TheDonald’s support continues to rise and his poll numbers leave other candidates in the dust.

Whether you agree with TheDoald or not, he’s entitled to his opinion, and when the likes of the presstitute media and the white house insects have conniptions over your words, you know you’re on the right track!

  8. Pie Guevara says:

So far Trump has shown that he is bullet proof when it comes to making “outlandish” statements that drives the media insane. Here is the nut — Trump now completely OWNS the Drive-By left wing media that dominates this country. The media cannot destroy him, they are complicit in his success at the polls, and are unhinged about it. With the help of the media Trump is sucking up all the oxygen. No other candidate gets as much press attention as he, in fact, all the candidates combined, Republican and Democrat, cannot compete with his attention getting powers of manipulation.

Rush Limbaugh absolutely nails why Trump is ruling the day. It is well worth reading.
    http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2015/12/08/how_donald_trump_plays_the_media

Excerpts from the transcript of his radio show (you may assume that only Rush’s voice is speaking.)

Trump is leading the Republican presidential primary. Why can’t they touch him? Why do they keep covering him? Why don’t they just ignore him? They can’t. And that and therein lies something fascinating. Trump has direct access to his voters, his supporters, the American people. Trump has direct access to people around the world. I’ve got the Trump Stack of Outrage today. It’s comical. It’s predictable. It’s sameness. Even I, El Rushbo, am blamed for it on the BBC, if you can believe that. Yeah. I’m responsible. You know why? Because I have been saying this kind of thing 25 years or more. Trump is just picking up where I left off, according to the BBC.

Meanwhile, I’ve never said anything like anything Trump says. But despite it all they can’t take him out. They can’t stop covering him. They can’t humiliate him. They can’t embarrass him. They can’t diminish his support. They’re powerless, and this has them in a panic. The media that can make-or-break anybody cannot touch Trump, and every time they try, all they do is make him bigger. They can’t explain this. They are frustrated to no end, and so are both political parties who rely on the media to be the great equalizer in all of this.

This latest quote/unquote “outrage” from Trump is a perfect example of how he plays the media, how he knows exactly what to do and how to do it to own their attention and airtime. He says things that he knows will drive them crazy. He says things over and over that he knows will drive them insane, and then when they go insane, he doubles down on it and drives them even crazier. He also knows that his audience is in on what he is doing.

He knows that a lot of Americans agree, to a certain extent, with things that he says. He also knows he’s the only one reaching those people. And then he sits back and watches (no doubt with a huge smile) the media cover what he says over and over and over and over again. Then they analyze it over and over and over, and they talk about it over and over and over again. He’s confident that a lot of his voters are gonna be able to strip away the bombast and be able to get to the nuts and bolts of what he’s saying, the kernel of truth of what he’s saying.

In the meantime, he ends up occupying political positions exclusively that many support.

    • Tina says:

If I remember correctly Rush also pointed out that the media can;t quit covering Trump because of the ratings. Ahhh…it’s bea-u-ti-ful!

The media publicity is also free and that hasn’t hurt his budget. It does put all of his opponents on hold…reserving precious dollars for the last leg. Bush used up a lot buying ad time that Trump gets for free. (I’ll bet this drives the Bernie loving Dewey nuts)

      • Chris says:

“If I remember correctly Rush also pointed out that the media can;t quit covering Trump because of the ratings. Ahhh…it’s bea-u-ti-ful!”

Well, Rush would know a great deal about saying horrendously bigoted things for ratings and attention. Though I wouldn’t call that beautiful, so much as disgusting.

    • Chris says:

Rush: “Meanwhile, I’ve never said anything like anything Trump says.”

      Hilarious.

  9. Pie Guevara says:

Re Tina: “He [Trump] was talking about putting a hold on Muslim entry into the US until our leaders can get their act together to vet them.”

I agree, that was the thrust of Trump’s comment.

Any law passed that could possibly address the clear and present danger of the immigration of terrorists will necessarily require a thorough and extensive vetting of every individual and will not have any religion specifically attached to it.

If applied vigorously and it should filter out most Muslim terrorists without having to specifically and offensively name just Muslims.

There could also be a temporary hold put on all immigration until the vetting tools are all in place.

Of course such laws will accomplish little as long as we do not have the political will to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into our country. As long as Obama or any Democrat is president, that will never happen, no matter what congress does.

    • Tina says:

“There could also be a temporary hold put on all immigration until the vetting tools are all in place.”

      That would be my preference.

      • J. Soden says:

        Mine too, Tina.
Yet a ban on immigration while we have a sieve for our northern and southern borders won’t do much good. And there have already been incidents of muslims infiltrating those borders. Wonder if they were given papers with a court appearance date and turned loose like so many others . . .

Just a matter of time before we get another ISIS attack but this time from those who’ve smuggled in from Mexico or Canada. And when that happens, the blame can be tattooed directly on Obumble’s forehead!

  10. Pie Guevara says:

At the very least we need to put a pause on Obama’s insane refugee immigration program from Syria and Iraq —

    http://video.foxnews.com/v/4652709440001/rep-mccaul-extremists-trying-to-exploit-us-refugee-program/?playlist_id=930909813001#sp=show-clips

  11. Tina says:

“Banning all members of one of the world’s largest religions from immigrating into our country because some members are terrorists is not “logical.”

It may be unfortunate that we find ourselves in these times but it is also quite true that this proposal is quite logical if we are to achieve maximum protections for our citizens. It isn’t Presbyterians or Baptists that are trying to kill us; it’s Muslims. And since those Muslims have vowed to kill us, lie through their teeth, and don’t have much of a paper trail for identification we need to be extra vigilant and take all precautions. Also, because it is the intention of those who want to kill us to overcome our population over time and eventually put us under sharia law, displacing constitutional law, it makes perfect sense to consider this very legitimate proposal.

ISIS is laughing at this president and us. How there numbers have grown under his pathetic weak leadership! You are a fool.

“Support for Trump’s bigoted policy makes you just as bad as he is.”

I’m sorry, you must have mistaken me for someone who would crumble under your pathetic PC threat!

“…every time you complain that liberals are such big meanies for calling you bigoted…”

Idiot! (Spoken with a French accent) I don’t complain; I could give a $#^*, except to point out how incredibly bigoted and intolerant you “special” people really are and how much you are prone to bullying.

Whoo hoo, Lindsey Graham. Did you really think I was a lock step Republican. Lindsey’s trying to get elected president. Lindsey ued to be a coservative we could count on…he’s not anymore.

Speaker Ryan is disappointing too. Neither had Trumps quote in context before they spoke. Both are upset because Trump won’t play the phony Washington elitist game.

Do you imagine the phony pandering the Democrats engage in is more ethical or honest? Ha! When Hillary ran against Obama Bill Clintontold Sen. Edward Kennedy, “A few years ago, this guy (Obama) would be getting us coffee.” Al Sharpton admitted it might have been racist but not much was made of it, after all, Bill Clinton was deemed the “first black president.

Harry Reid’s apology was sufficient even though his ugly remarks about Obama were racist: “Harry Reid apologized on Saturday for saying the race of Barack Obama – whom he described as a “light skinned” African-American “with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one” – would help rather than hurt his eventual presidential bid.”

Amazing, a Democrat Senate leader making a racist remark would help Obama get elected…and that was supposed to be an apology?

Chris your finger wagging is unimpressive and quite childish.

  12. Chris says:

“Whoo hoo, Lindsey Graham. Did you really think I was a lock step Republican. Lindsey’s trying to get elected president. Lindsey ued to be a coservative we could count on…he’s not anymore.”

It’s sad that you think anti-Muslim bigotry is a virtue that one needs in order to be “a conservative we could count on.”

Are you aware that Trump has proposed registering all Muslims and would t rule out having them wear special IDs? You are defending a Nazi.

“Speaker Ryan is disappointing too. Neither had Trumps quote in context before they spoke.”

Oh please, give me the context. Tell me how their interpretations of his words wasn’t what he said. I’m dying to see how you spin this one.

I’m sorry your conservative candidates are disappointing you by showing basic common sense and decency. I know it’s not what got them elected, so it must be a shock to you.

    • Tina says:

It’s really sad that you continue to insist that bigotry is the motivation rather than sensible precautions. It’s sad hat YOU continue to say hatred of Muslims rather than a determination to rid the world of a threat that is identifiable primarily by his radical religious views. It’s pathetic that YOU place politics before the safety of your fellow Americans, INCLUDING American Muslims and the Muslims world wide who would also like to see these murderous religious freaks disrupted and defeated.

Don’t be sorry Chris. I’d rather be disappointed now and then than live a leftist lock step PC existence and inspires game playing. Remember you support the party that has failed this country spectacularly o the war front, on the economy, on the budget, and on healthcare…it’s falling apart! And where do you put your attention? On Trump. That tells me a lot about the lack of depth and seriousness that you and your entire party bring to the table when it comes to serving the nation.

As we have learned since yesterday there are statutes that support what Trump has suggested and they were enacted by Democrats.

Those Democrats and Republicans that came out in knee jerk fashion yesterday have egg all over their faces today. The PC police and DC elitists need to back off.

      • Pie Guevara says:

Re: Tina “It’s really sad that you [Chris] continue to insist that bigotry is the motivation rather than sensible precautions.”

Left-wing twits like Chris ALWAYS fall back on specious, disgusting, and outrageous accusations of bigotry, racism, and prejudice when they have no argument. Those ugly and specious epithets are some of the worst things you can possibly say about another human being and are used to insult and astonish people they disagree with.

Chris is just another appendage fixated loser of the left and is only parroting his training and brainwashing as a malignant left-wing scold. What he needs is a good spanking with a hardwood paddle every time he mouths off.

      • Chris says:

Tina: “It’s really sad that you continue to insist that bigotry is the motivation rather than sensible precautions.”

Again, banning all Muslim immigration is not a “sensible precaution.” It’s overkill, and it’s counterproductive, and it will help ISIS further their narrative of a war between Islam and the West. It’s also bigoted.

“It’s sad hat YOU continue to say hatred of Muslims rather than a determination to rid the world of a threat that is identifiable primarily by his radical religious views.”

I never said “hatred.” I said bigotry. They are not synonyms. Most bigotry is driven by fear and ignorance, which is exactly what would drive someone to believe that stopping all Muslim immigration is a sensible way to combat the problem of radical Islamic terrorists.

Also, the threat is not “identifiable” based simply on someone being a Muslim. They are the third largest religion in the world. If Muslims were big enough of a threat to justify keeping them all out, we’d all be dead by now.

“It’s pathetic that YOU place politics before the safety of your fellow Americans,”

Stopping all Muslim immigration will not keep Americans more safe. Also, you’re an idiot for thinking that Trump’s motivations for proposing a policy that will never be implemented isn’t about “politics.”

“INCLUDING American Muslims and the Muslims world wide who would also like to see these murderous religious freaks disrupted and defeated.”

Don’t pretend you are concerned with the safety of “Muslims world wide” when you just said we shouldn’t let any more of them into this country, where they would be much more safe.

“I’d rather be disappointed now and then than live a leftist lock step PC existence”

Calling proposals to ban members of an entire religion from entering the country “bigoted” isn’t political correctness. It’s basic human decency. I know how you get the two mixed up so frequently, as you lack respect for both.

  13. Chris says:

Christian conservative Rod Dreher had a great response to Trump’s disgusting proposal:

“This is disgusting. I believe that it is reasonable to be restrictive about Islamic immigration to the US, and I despise the way the mainstream media has always gone out of its way to avert its eyes from domestic Islamic radicalism. But there is nothing reasonable about banning travel to the US on the basis of religion. What kind of respect does Trump have for religious freedom? It’s a relief to know that should Trump become president and try to implement such a plan, the Supreme Court would shoot it down in a heartbeat. Still, that a leading presidential candidate would take such a stand is profoundly disturbing.

Religious freedom matters, and not just for people who pray like the rest of us do. It is within the realm of possibility that one day in the far future, the US government will be compelled to implement such an extreme measure for the sake of national security. But if we do arrive at such a day, America as we know it will be over anyway. Conservatives would be fools to hasten the day by cheering for Trump’s radicalism…

…Folks, I still don’t believe Donald Trump will be either the GOP nominee or the next president, but let me tell you, you will remember how you responded to him at moments like this.

    http://www.theamericanconservative.com/dreher/trump-trashes-religious-freedom-muslim/

    • Pie Guevara says:

Sheesh, you are such a boor, Chis, with your overblown posturing. There will be no law passed — even if Trump were to become president — that discriminates against immigrants of a particular religion.

“but let me tell you, you will remember how you responded to him at moments like this.”

Oh, go soak your head you posturing, overblown, and pompous scold. Better yet, drop dead. No matter how wrong headed Trump’s remark was, I think every conservative here understood its intent — to protect American citizens from terrorists — not to appeal to or promote anti-Muslin bigotry.

      • Tina says:

Once again you saved me the trouble, Pie, and I appreciate it.

Not only do we conservatives get what Trump was saying, we get what people like Chris are doing, it’s all they know how to do. He’s just part of the slime brigade spreading the usual tolerance, cheer and good will.

      • Chris says:

Pie: “Sheesh, you are such a boor, Chis, with your overblown posturing. There will be no law passed — even if Trump were to become president — that discriminates against immigrants of a particular religion.”

I know. That doesn’t change the fact that Trump proposed such a law, and Tina supported it. That is terrible and bigoted.

I didn’t write the portion you quoted–Rod Dreher of the American Conservative did.

“Oh, go soak your head you posturing, overblown, and pompous scold. Better yet, drop dead. No matter how wrong headed Trump’s remark was, I think every conservative here understood its intent — to protect American citizens from terrorists — not to appeal to or promote anti-Muslin bigotry.”

Intent isn’t magic. Japanese internment was also intended to protect America citizens. It was also bigoted. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Bigotry isn’t a set of devil’s horns that only evil monsters have. It’s in the hearts and minds of plenty of otherwise good people. You can have good intentions and still display bigotry.

Trump’s intentions may be to protect America. His ACTIONS are bigoted. There is no contradiction.

  14. Tina says:

A long article but well worth reading. “The Right to Refuse; History and the Syrian Refugee Crisis”

Instead of being a bigot it may be that Trump has a good memory and a common sense approach to addressing our immediate security needs.

I’d like all of the bleeding heart PC types to explain HOW they would identify those who want to come here to kill us. It’s a challenge we can’t ignore.

    • Pie Guevara says:

I think the way Trump phrased his statement was unfortunate and wrong-headed, but he slammed right into the heart of the issue at hand — importation of Islamic terrorists.

There really is only one thing I like about Trump: He gives me no end of delight when he so pisses off the pompous politically correct left. Just look at how angry Chris is. He has exceeded his usual unhinged self in this thread with his scolding bloviations.

  15. Dewey says:

I am glad trump is showing the bigotry of many Many republicans. It is showing us the ugly ugly side out there. here is an actual conversation I had

    Why do you like Trump?

    “because he’s rich”

Ya know he used bankruptcy laws 5 or 6 times for profit and if he took that 40 million his dad gave him and put it in savings he would have the same amount of money anyway. But the US is not a business, government is not a business.

“Well it should be a business”

    AKA Fascism

We needed to expose the ugly truth of those who are not worldly in America. Those who are afraid their White Dominance will disappear due to more minorities in numbers.

When ya have a Conservative SCOTUS Justice imply racist views as Scalia did today we see just how ugly conservatism is.

Trump represents the republican party in a Nutshell. At least it is said straight out instead of hidden. I say he is good for the party. He at least represents the GOP Voters thoughts for all to see. The RNC is having a conniption fit and that is fun to watch as well.

The only problem is he is giving ISIS exactly what they want and I say to all fearful RW’ers you reap what you sow.

I denounce all trumps calculated remarks but I say at least Republicans are being honest about who they are.

Feeding ISIS is not very American though. It also shows the lack of knowledge of how they work and irresponsibility that shall never win the White house. Ya can’t run a war like a Business Mr Trump. Especially this kind, the more we bomb the more they recruit. The world is tired of the USA war lies Iraq was the last Big Lie we will get away with…..oh yea we did not get away with it they are attacking us on our soil with US Citizens.

  16. Tina says:

Dewey attitude and bad information is about all you have. Your knee jerk reaction to Scalia is typical. You assume his remarks are racist so you donlt bother to get what lies under the opinion.

    CNN has the story:

Washington (CNN)Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia raised eyebrows on Wednesday with a comment he made during the court’s hearing of an affirmative action case, in which he seemed to suggest some African-Americans belong in lesser colleges.

Scalia was questioning the attorney for the University of Texas, which is defending its use of race as a factor in admissions in the case before the court.

“There are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less-advanced school, a less — a slower-track school where they do well,” Scalia said, according to the transcript. “One of the briefs pointed out that most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas.”

The attorney, Gregory G. Garre, tried to interject, but Scalia continued.

“They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that they’re being pushed ahead in classes that are too fast for them,” Scalia said. “I’m just not impressed by the fact that the University of Texas may have fewer. Maybe it ought to have fewer. And maybe some — you know, when you take more, the number of blacks, really competent blacks, admitted to lesser schools, turns out to be less.”

Did it ever occur to you that placing unqualified students in colleges that have more rigorous studies does them no favor? (Whites and Asians don’t get affirmative action entry but the same would be true for them).

Affirmative action policies have placed blacks in places like Berkley where they find themselves unable to compete and soon become discouraged thinking themselves not capable. Some drop out and never return which is a shame if they really want a college education. When these students transfer to a community or state college they do much better and have a more positive college experience.

This problem has been studied for decades and commented on by both liberals and conservatives. It’s simply common sense Dewey.

But you go ahead and polish that bigoted attitude about white privilege if you want. It makes you look stupid but it is your choice.

As for ISIS, it will take more than bombs. Mr. Trump and all of the other conservative contenders know this. ISIS will only be able to recruit while they are perceived to be winners and “great warriors” and the U.S. appears to be weak. When they are broken and smashed it won’t work the same way. The mealy mouthed appeaser has given them the appearance of superiority and strength..the strong horse. The big question is whether it was done intentionally or stupidly.

Tina: “You assume his remarks are racist”

No, he knows Scalia’s remarks were racist, because he read them. I’ve always had problems with Dewey’s writing style but his reading comprehension here seems to be on point. Yours is not.
