Shall We Continue

Posted by Tina

We are entering the final phase of the most important election our nation has seen in my lifetime. Our choices for president couldn’t be more starkly different. The question on everyone’s mind: “Shall we continue down the same path that has failed us for the last eight years or move in a new direction?” The issues before us are serious and important to our everyday lives as well as for conditions for the world in which we live. These are contentious times, violent times. As if things weren’t difficult enough we also find ourselves bogged down with distractions and agitations in the streets. The challenges ahead are complex. They require leadership with solid grounding and a thoughtful determined approach. Every day brings news of great concern…how do we keep up? And should we, at PS, even try?

Late yesterday and this morning the worth of Post Scripts has come into question. So I’m wondering whether Post Scripts still offers a valuable forum for discussion about these important issues. I’m not the creator of PS but I have enjoyed, very much, being a part of it and so this doubt has prompted me to ask of you, “Shall we continue?”

I need your feedback and welcome your thoughts no matter what they might be.

Please don’t give up. PS is a valuable resource, even though there are those who would attack, vilify or ridicule those with a different viewpoint. If you leave the arena, then the idiots win.

You might consider redacting personal attacks instead of letting them be posted. Big black lines throughout some posts would perhaps gain the attention of those who don’t seem to “get it” and the others would understand why the big black lines were there . . . . .

The one thing that has kept us going is the people that comment here. I know 99% of the readers don’t want to comment, but they do enjoy reading comments and articles. Those folks show up on our counter, and that ‘s good. Thanks to all of you, we still rank in the top of the blogs on a monthly basis, but there’s nothing better than hearing from you!

Do you realize, we’ve been at this for a decade? In that time, many of our readers and commenters have come and gone. The world has changed before our eyes and we’ve talked about it all right here, sometimes very passionately! It’s been a very personal experience for Tina and I and I can honestly say we’ve thoroughly enjoyed interacting with you as we bring you the days top stories and commentary. We’ve seen so many perspectives on the news, that part has been enlightening, to say the least!

The question now is shall we continue for a bit longer or shall we retire Post Scripts because it’s time?

    • Pie Guevara says:

If you wish to retire the blog, then do so. Don’t carry on for “a bit longer” if your hearts are not in it. I will miss this blog, no matter how much the hatred, the mocking, the insults spewed by progressives in the comments section outrages me. This blog has always been food for thought despite the progressive vandals who attack it.

I have always put a high value on Jack’s perspective on police and law enforcement. His reason and cool headed analysis has always impressed me. If I only had his patience and reserve I might be a reasonable human being to.

What can I say about Tina’s passion, sharp intellect, and dedication to core conservative principles? Nothing needs be said. She is a force on this earth. I think of her infinite will to take on any detractor and admire that.

Does Post Scripts always “get it right?” Well, of course not. I accept their sometimes failings. But Post Scripts mostly gets it right, and that is good enough for me. As we all know, perfection is under the purview progressives.

Best wishes to Jack and Tina.

Thanks, Pie, your words mean a lot. You shouldn’t downplay the important role you have in making this blog worthwhile. I really enjoy your comments that are not reactive! At the same time, your frustrations are understandable; I’m surrounded by men with similar passions and frustrations.

The way I look at it, men are the ones who leap to the challenge. Action is your comfortable home. You don’t wait for committees and discussions, you just get things done. In politics things often move at a snails pace which goes against those natural urges. Over the last eight years we’ve bogged down under what I’d describe as a thoughtful, studious (more feminine) approach…and it feels like we’re walking in sludge. This approach is valuable in teaching and in think tanks. It stinks in leadership.

Working with (mostly) men for nearly 30 years I’ve learned to get out of the way and let them act. I often marvel at the result. We don’t need endless committees and programs from leaders to fix our problems. We need a plan and we need action. We are all incredibly hungry for both!

I’m ready to blog on. The stakes are too high to quit…very glad to hear you are with us…just as you are!

        • Pie Guevara says:

Tina, I am not quite sure what to make of this. If ever there was an “Action Jackson” it is you. I cannot think of a single instance in this blog where you ever needed to “out of the way.”

          • Tina says:

Thank you Pie. It’s sometimes difficult to assess oneself honestly so your feedback means a lot.

Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you think of any ways to improve our blog.

    • Tina says:

I thought it was longer than a decade. Memory no longer serves (smile) but I do recall significant disagreement during the Bush years.

It looks like we should soldier on; I’m heartened by the encouragement.

I can redact when I have time…let’s hope it doesn’t become necessary. It would be fairly time consuming to monitor every word, feels too much like babysitting. I would prefer that we disagree, when we do, with respect.

  3. Peggy says:

I would love to have it continue because it’s a wonder venue to learn about the ever changing issues and news. I’d also like to discourage those who visit this site, who are determined to take control of it by demanding everyone agree with them with their never ending attacks, from participating when possible.

Tina, and Jack put a lot of time into researching and writing the articles and I don’t think it’s fair to Tina especially to spend so much time defending herself against those attacks.

Disagreeing is great. It’s how we learn and evolve our beliefs and views. But, name calling, bullying and negative statements meant to demean and degrade have no place in a civil discussion.

Please don’t give up. As Tina said, we’re entering one of the most important times of our lives that will determine the direction our country will take for generations to come. I want to be a part of this arena. I just don’t want any more cage fights.

“Late yesterday and this morning the worth of Post Scripts has come into question.”

I beg to differ. I don’t think the worth of Post Scripts was ever in question. It is just that many (myself included) were becoming weary of—how did Pie put it?—“… a constant barrage of the specious progressive tactics of personal attack, false charges of racism, bigotry, xenophobia, misogyny…”. Not that much of it was ever directed at me, it was just becoming too much to watch others having to battle the same crap over and over. The recent lack of same has been delightful.

I realize that those responsible for Post Scripts bend over backwards to be fair and allow equal time to all. Why? Because they are decent people. I also believe this is a fool’s errand.

I have no idea if Chris/Nate, whom ever, believe any or all of what they post, or if they see themselves as SJW’s carrying their flag, and I don’t care. It does occur to me that posting here may be part of their mission. To keep good people like Jack and Tina engaged, push their buttons, suck down bits of their time and energy so it won’t be put to use elsewhere. Don’t let them. Personally, I find their arguments naive and agenda driven, their logic circular, and their tone arrogant and condescending. Frankly, they are not worth my time.

So, a pox on them. Let them shout to an empty room here. Let them start their own blog and attract followers. They could even cut and paste from here to there and then comment it into little bits of internet confetti. The rest of us here could even click over to have a look. Or not.

I too have worked at something I love doing for well over a decade to the point of burn out. One of the things that kept me going so long was the realization that, if I quit, they win. However, if the day comes that you decide you have had enough, I will understand.

For now, I hope Post Scripts continues. United we stand (or at least lean on each other). It is important to know that there are others out there who feel and believe as we do and that we are not alone.

    Thank you Rht447.

I don’t mind disagreement. But I can see I’ve been too patient and tolerant of rude behaviors and that that has caused others to walk away or become rude themselves in defense. I deeply regret any slight it may have caused.

I don’t want to spend a lot of time reading and editing everyone’s comments before posting but I will do my best to try to catch rude or degrading comments.

I would like to continue, and intend to do so, especially after all the words of encouragement. Thanks for the support.

Quite honestly this is the only blog I read and contribute to. I sort of got hooked because of Tina’s and Jacks writings, and how they dealt (much more civilly than anyone would expect) with those who just oppose conservative thinking.

What I noticed most is that some people, who just post to annoy, never really got a toehold with their misdirection when they attempted to spin facts. Tina was always there to set the record straight, and Jack just keeps telling it like it is.

Both of you have done an outstanding job over this past decade, and especially considering what you’ve dealt with.

Keeping up with the news can be exhausting, I never understood how you did it and still had time to enjoy your own personal lives. But the one thing we readers have learned (especially this reader) is that there is always the truth hiding out there, we just need to locate it.

Maybe a different format, such as what J.Soden presented is what is necessary for Post Scripts, I myself just skip the “snarky, I know better” type of replies (which they really never do know better) and will just read Tina’s replies to whom she is trying to illuminate when she points out they do not post all the facts or have any real answers.

Non posting readers contribute much to Post Scripts success I would guess by sharing the information read here as well, Post Script is a good solid conservative sounding board, where sharing ours thoughts is encouraged, and which have never encouraged following lockstep party line, we seem to be able to that and still stay cordial, and convinced our varied paths can combine and strengthen our country, why the Liberal posters cant is telling in their own current presumptive candidate, they follow a party line only, overlooking the basic fact their candidate is completely unworthy of their support

If those same Liberals started their own blog, I’ll wager their tenure will be short lived, and any following they may generate will, as Tina often points out,” bloviate on until it is pointless and move on to the next thing” I never have read one idea or solution from the left thinking people here, just snarky and belittling comments when they start to realize they have stepped in it again.

Whatever you two decide to do with Post Scripts for the future, make it the best for you.

Thank You for what you have shown and posted for us to date!

    • Tina says:

Harold, I know from experience it’s hard to top former comments. You have managed to do just that, expressing yourself with clarity and grace. Thank you so much for the support.

I think Jack will agree it is well worth it to continue because of all of you.
