Just for fun can you older vets answer any of these questions?

1. Q. Can you name 4 occassions when you render a salute?

2. Q. Should vets salute or place their hand over the heart for the flag salute?

3. Q. How long is regular forward march step?

4. Q. How long is step backwards from the position of attention?

5. Q. While at attention how far is a single right step?

If you choose to reply, please note your former branch of service so you may be properly recognized for your patriotism and service.


1. A. When the National Anthem, To the Colors, Ruffles and Flourishes, or Hail to the Chief is played; when uncased National Colors or Standards pass by; on ceremonial occasions; in all official greetings; at Reveille (when in sight of the colors or the sound of the music); during the rendering of the honors; when passing uncased colors outside; when reporting to an officer; and when you meet and recognize an officer or warrant officer. Also the National Anthem of other countries and foreign officers are saluted.

Note: When uncased colors pass you by, you salute at 6 paces before and 6 paces after. Uncased colors do not apply to a flag pole with the colors already flying, but it does apply when raising or lowering the flag.

2. A. Either. 8/14/2007 – WASHINTON, D.C. — Passage by unanimous consent of bill (S.1877) clarifying U.S. law to allow veterans and service personnel not in uniform to salute the flag.

3. A. 30 inches.

4. A. 15 inches.

5. A. Zero. You’re at attention! lol
