Sunday morning brings a new perspective to the controversy about Trumps tax records. It seems the New York Times got ahold of some of Trumps tax records and published them. The Trump camp published a statement:
The only news here is that the more than 20-year-old alleged tax document was illegally obtained, a further demonstration that the New York Times, like establishment media in general, is an extension of the Clinton campaign, the Democratic Party and their global special interest.
The NYT recently endorsed Hillary. (Anyone want to bet that guy Koskien had one of his flunkies at the IRS do the digging?) Remember it was Hillary that obtained up to 900 FBI files of opponenets druring Bill’s reign:
Filegate: The confidential FBI files of up to 900 former Reagan and Bush appointees were sent over to White House security chief Craig Livingstone. Deputy White House counsel William Kennedy, a close friend of Hillary Clinton’s from their days at the Rose Law Firm, would frequently call up the FBI and have someone’s files sent over on his say-so. Then-FBI director Louis Freeh called it “an egregious violation of privacy.”
The Times received the pages in the mail:
The pages were mailed last month to Susanne Craig, a reporter at The Times who has written about Mr. Trump’s finances,” the paper explained in the story. “The documents were the first page of a New York State resident income tax return, the first page of a New Jersey nonresident tax return and the first page of a Connecticut nonresident tax return.”
The gist of the return is that Trumps return indicted a loss that year of $916 million. Then the times speculates about the future to paint a negative picture:
a tax deduction so substantial it could have allowed him to legally avoid paying any federal income taxes for up to 18 years.”
Legally avoid? How about LEGALLY KEEP the money HE DOES NOT OWE PER THE TAX CODE!”
No sane person in America, including Hillary Clinton, would pay tax they do not owe!
Democrats are deceitful…in particular about taxes. Democrats held the majority in Congress for most of the 40 or 50 years when much of the tax code was written. The so-called loop holes were inserted by them! The tax code became complicated to protect the wealth of many of them and their supporters.
How many of Hillary’s big money donors have IRS filings she would object to politically? Most likely ALL of them.
Disingenuous Hillary has a plan to take wealth through a higher death tax. Neither she, nor any of her wealthy friends would ever pay that tax. They live their high life by creating foundations that allow them to keep and direct their wealth while living high on the hog and paying as little as possible to the government come tax time. The people that would be hurt are small business owners and their heirs who don;t have the means or the savvy to avoid the tax man.
Simplification of the tax code is the only way to ensure that we all pay and we pay a “fair share.” Democrats are four square against it. Guess why.
Fitting end to this story? The NYT paid zero tax in 2014. as Breitbart reports they “got an income tax refund of $3.5 million even though they had a pre-tax profit of $29.9 million in 2014. That’s a result of loss carry over…the very thing th times speculated made Trump some kind of tax criminal. The left is slime!
Why such a big deal about “releasing your taxes?” When a candidate offers up a tax form, it is really not the 1040 form we are all used to. It is a generic summary prepared by an accountant. If you see a so-called tax return on a candidate’s website, you can see it is different from what we file. It is missing lots of information. For example, your real form includes your home address, social security number, telephone number, date of birth, names and identification of all your dependents, and much more. No candidate has ever published that. The IRS promises your information will be kept strictly confidential, as it should be. They warn us never to give anyone our Social Security number. In fact, it was a felony for the NYT to publish Trump’s forms.
Soaps, you are incorrect to state that it was a felony for the NYT to publish Trump’s forms.
First amendment law protects newspapers publishing illegally obtained documents as long as they are a “passive recipient” of the information. This is long-established first amendment law. Trump is threatening to sue, because he is an anti-first amendment president. (Witness his recent attempts to shut down a citizen’s criticism by tweeting “check out her sex tape.”)
*would be an anti-first amendment president.
The New York Times offered a 0ne million dollar reward to anyone who gave them Trump’s tax information. That negates the “passive recipient” defense. Not that I think the editor will be charged with a crime, of course.
Soaps, the law only applies to federal taxes. The leaked tax documents were filed with the state.
Off Topic.
Ann Coulter is right, this is what you get when the federal government refuses to enforce immigration laws and has, essentially, an open border policy.
They Keep Finding Bodies
Note the weasel wording from the NYT —
Tensions simmer here because some residents say they believe an increase in Central American migrants to town has led to the increase in gang violence. According to 2014 census figures compiled by Queens College, Brentwood’s population is 68 percent Latino or Hispanic, with more than 17,000 residents claiming to be from El Salvador.
Get that? … because some residents say they believe an increase…
Not because of the increase, but … because some residents say they believe an increase…
Oh, for crying out loud. This is like saying public urination, defecation, crime, panhandling, and stabbings are not part and parcel attracting the homeless, the miscreants, and the drug abusers to downtown Chico, it is because people “believe” it is.
Sometimes I just want to scream.
And if you think Chico does not have a gang problem, think again. It has a gang problem despite whether people “believe” there is a gang problem or not.
The left is insane.
Me too Pie…sometimes I do…in my closet…alone..don’t want to scare the cat. 😉
I’m intrigued. You left out a very important bit.
“The path to such a plan, however, runs through a fractured Suffolk County. Its former police chief is headed to jail, its district attorney is under federal investigation and a Justice Department settlement mandated changes in the Police Department in 2013 after findings of bias against Latino residents.”
You want corruption. This is corruption. Lawless entities taking advantage of a weak government … aka … a weak people. It all sounds positively … Mexican.
Excuse me, people, if I enjoy the irony.
Excuse me if I question your conclusion. We don’t know that the justice department isn’t where the corruption lies.
Look at what happened with Comey and the email scandal! How can an investigator lay out such a damning case and then not recommend prosecution?
Suffolk Times:
10 most dangerous gangs in America. MS-13 is number one and is described as “mostly of Salvadorians, with the accompaniment of Hondurans, Guatemalans, Mexicans and other immigrants from Central and South America.” Number two is Latin Kings described as “mostly Mexican-American.” Number four is 18th Street Gang described as “30,000 to 50,000 members, many of whom are illegal aliens from Mexico and Central America” Number three is a “mostly black” American gang, Crips.
Guess which gangs are now prominent in Suffolk County?
You can deny it all you want but the reality is the worst gangs include a large minority and/or illegal immigrant population and they represent a huge threat to civility and safety in cities all across America.
Turns out Hillary used the same tax law to “avoid” paying taxes in 2015…she had a $700K loss!
Also, millions of us, including democrats. who sold homes in the 1990s and during the housing market crash beginning in 2007 got to legally write off the loss. The tax credit was carried forward for years on future filings. My personal loss lasted for three years.
The line item may be different, but the outcome is the same. We all took legal deductions on our capital losses.
Hillary and the DNC are such hypocrites for saying the republican candidate did wrong while taking the same tax credits allowable by law themselves. The unequal media coverage has to be their primary reason for putting the story out there to begin with. They knew it would be lead coverage on Trump and nonexistence by the same media for Hillary.
“The line item may be different, but the outcome is the same. We all took legal deductions on our capital losses.”
Peachy. But you cannot then crab about the national debt, our shoddy infrastructure, crappy schools, or anything else. Someday you ARE going to learn to think these things all the way through.
Libby, Hillary is part of the elite that made these tax laws you disagree with. She had many years in the Senate to change the law but didn’t. Did Trump have the opportunities to do this? No! You want to crucify Trump because he paid the taxes the law required him to pay. I would like to see a list of all the people that deliberately pay more taxes than they are required to pay. I would bet it is very short list (if there are any names at all). Libby, I also bet you name is not on it. Quit you bitching!
“She had many years in the Senate to change the law but didn’t.”
This is ridiculous. Clinton consistently voted against tax cuts and loopholes for the rich while in the Senate. Look at her voting record. That she was outnumbered is hardly a mark against her.
“Did Trump have the opportunities to do this? No!”
The fact that Trump has never held public office is not a mark in his favor. The presidency is not the only job in the universe where prior experience doesn’t matter.
Sure we can you dolt!
The debt is mostly a matter of ill-conceived social programs and the infrastructure and rotten schools are a matter of poor management of the public funds…a fiduciary responsibility as you well know!
Someday you ARE going to humble yourself and learn that money, especially other peoples money spent haphazardly by a distant bureaucracy, isn’t the answer to the problems.
Why should anyone want to send more money to a body that has performed so miserably? I say let them get their act together and we might consider giving more. Not holding my breath there either.
And who among us would not seek out tax laws that benefit and allow the tax payer to retain and do with what they want with the money they earned.
Trump was correct at the debate, understanding and applying the tax laws makes him smart!
Liberals are so self serving and hypercritical, and they fall in line listening to more BS from Hillary, the Queen of deceit and lies, who panders to her base of lost children with continuous misinformation.
The real issue isn’t either $hrilLIARy or TheDonald’s taxes and their LEGAL avoidance of paying, it’s the convoluted MESS of our tax laws. Special interests abound that have been allowed by Clowngress, and it gets worse each year.
Time for a FLAT tax where everyone pays. Even those receiving goofernment handouts like unemployment, welfare and food stamps! Social Security recipients have to pay on their benefits received – why not the rest????????
Excellent point!

Denish D’Souza exposed her and the Clinton Crime Cartel in his book and movie. Wish more people would read the book and watch the movie to learn how she’s doing it and if she’s not stopped will succeed.
You guys still do not get it.
Billionaire capitol is where? Manhattan NY.
What do we have as candidates?
2 Crooked people from the NY Elite Club. Two people who are friends. Two families who’s daughters are very close because the families hung out so much.
Yea right…… nothing to see here it is just a real election… They are both cheating…. no problem right?
Donald will not show his taxes because it will prove him to a fraud and full of it.
Release the taxes and release everything from both sides period.
Why allow either to hide anything?
I always love how Dewey thinks Post Scripts is just plain stupid. “You guys still do not get it.” What an ignoramus.
Trump applied legitimate, legal, tax law, as passed by Congress, as any tax lawyer or consultant would advise to carry forward his losses, you damn idiot. Where is the fraud, you dope? Answer: There isn’t any. If there were any tax fraud, do you think that the Obama corrupted IRS would not bring up charges in a heartbeat and destroy his candidacy? There truly is no person who contributes to the post Scripts comment section that is as wretchedly ignorant and just plain stupid as Dewey. Libby runs a close second.
Why Trump didn’t just take care of this months ago I have no idea. If he had it would not be a phony “issue” now. In my view, Trump continues to self destruct. The vile, inept, sexual predator enabling, one woman national security disaster from the most corrupt political family in the United States will be given free reign.
Dewey, you don’t get it. Get a clue. It is called INCOME tax, not LOSS tax. If your losses exceed your income, you pay no tax. If your losses reduce your income, you pay less tax. It is called net operating loss.
Spreading out losses forward for years is not a fraud, it is a legitimate application of the law, you ignorant moron. My bet is that if Dewey had a year of significant losses, he would NOT take advantage of tax law. He is that damn stupid.
It is the right of every American to pay as few taxes as the law allows. As much as I despise Trump, he has done nothing wrong nor illegal nor has he committed tax fraud.
Dear dimwit Dewey, Trump claims he will changed the “rigged system.” I tend to doubt that, but Clinton certainly will not. There is a reason no Fortune 500 companies and Wall Street support Clinton and not Trump. Clinton sells influence and is a known quantity — she will not implement any tax reform. Trump actually might champion tax reform.
Jonah Goldberg, who is a leading voice in the #NeverTrump crowd says it best — complex tax law is a subsidy. Contemplate that dimwit, but don’t hurt yourself, Dewey. That concept may be too much for Dewey to ponder without getting a headache.
Jonah Goldberg’s keen observation is why I am willing to listen to any politician who promotes tax reform and simplification. Sadly, most politicians are liars or do not have the influence to promote tax reform.
Ah … what we need to do is make me dictator. And then, after I have mustered the praetorian guard necessary to prevent my murder by the powers, I will abolish the federal tax code, replacing it with a document running to about a page and a half … sit back and watch the fur fly … and then, despite my praetorians’ best efforts, be murdered by the powers.
“Why Trump didn’t just take care of this months ago I have no idea. If he had it would not be a phony “issue” now. ”
You crazy. The proposition that this clown has contributed not dime one toward the national defense in twenty years is not going to sit well with anybody. You think the armed services are funded by the Tooth Fairy???
Try thinking about tax law you cretin. You pay taxes on income, not losses. The law is the law. If you do not like it, change it, idiot.
Tell you what Libby, go ahead, be an idiot. Take a large, deductible loss and DO NOT REPORT IT ON YOUR TAX FORM.
That will certainly go far to enhance your delusion of moral superiority, you half-baked nitwit.
There are plenty of things to criticize Trump for, legally applying tax law — THAT ANY TAX CONSULTANT WOULD RECOMMEND — is not one of them.
IDIOT!
Libby, there is absolutely no way legally to not pay taxes if you make money. This is a fact. Don’t tell me about off shore bank accounts. Those accounts are illegal.
If you lose as much money as you make there is no profit and therefore no taxes. Why would you consider this unfair?
If you use real estate depreciation to “shelter” your income you are not evading taxes, you are deferring them. The tax liability is transferred to the depreciated property and the taxes will have to be paid when the property is sold. If I use depreciation on a property to offset $100,000 in income so I don’t pay taxes on the $100,000 I increase the taxable profit on the property that I will have to pay tax on by the same amount $100,000. All I’ve done is delayed when the taxes will be paid.
Libby, educate yourself and you will not come across as such a nit-wit.
“Don’t tell me about off shore bank accounts. Those accounts are illegal.”
What? No, they’re not. If you’re going to rant against someone and call them ignorant you should know what you’re talking about.

Photos of Trump signing his tax returns will blow you away. Tell me the tax code isn’t complex…ga ‘head!
Geez they look like those pictures of the regulations for Obamacare stacked to the ceiling.
Lawyers are the reason the tax code and all of our laws are complex and filled with loopholes…and conflicting law!
I note that the other dimwit has chosen to defend Dewey and attack me and Trump on a non-issue.
Meanwhile, Dewey shuts his fat stupid yap. Good for you Dewey. No need to continue making an ass of yourself, Libby fills in nicely.
ROTFLMAO
Sorry Media! Donald Trump Revealed His $916 Million In Business Losses In 1997 Book:
“The media is salivating over the New York Times’ bombshell of the decade, even though it’s not a bombshell whatsoever. According to Trump’s 1995 tax returns leaked to NYT, Donald Trump reported a loss of $916 million, which means he could’ve legally avoided paying taxes for 18 years.
I’m still not particularly sure why it’s such a big deal. The Clintons’ 2015 tax returns show that they too reported capital gains losses ($699,540, to be exact) in order to reduce their tax burden.
But this isn’t about Hillary. It never is. The media makes sure of that. This is about Trump being a giant racist scumbag and not paying his fair share! And the fact that he would HIDE his $916 million business setback from the public! The HORROR! Except he didn’t hide it. He actually wrote about it in his 1997 book “The Art of the Comeback.”
In “The Art of the Comeback,” published in 1997, Mr. Trump told of his net worth plummeting into a deep hole. He recounted a story from 1990, when he was walking along Fifth Avenue in Manhattan with second wife Marla Maples and spotted a panhandler holding a cup.
“You see that man? Right now he’s worth $900 million more than me. … Right now I’m worth minus $900 million,” Mr. Trump told Ms. Maples, according to his book.
The story tells of the Republican nominee’s near-bankruptcy in the early 1990s when the real-estate market crashed. Creditors eventually gave him better terms, rather than risk lengthy battles with him in bankruptcy court.
The media’s been acting like this has been the biggest, juiciest secret of the decade. As it turns out, Trump wrote about it in his own book. So much for that.”

Peggy I’m rolling right along with you. Not only does this make the media look as stupid and biased as they are, it also shows Trump is up front and open about his finances.
People project…I wonder how many on the left actually cheat as much as possible on their taxes? Long wet lunches expensed as “business meetings” for instance. Nobody likes paying taxes especially when the rate becomes too onerous and opportunities for advancement are lost due to a prescribed lousy economy.
Free Speech Defender
Re Hillary and taxes, her record in NY and the the Senate reflects a woman who has no intention of reforming the tax code…NONE. Her agenda is to raise rates and expand the tax code in much the same way as Obama has. New programs requiring new taxes are definitely on her list.
Just as her foundation protects her growing millions (It is a slush fund for her and her relatives and cronies and a very small percentage is actually spent on charity) you can bet she will protect the legal deductions (You call them loopholes) her friends on Wall Street and in Hollywood take when they file their returns.
Highlights from her record:
When she says she’s going to tax the rich she knows the rich will avoid paying high taxes one way or another. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a sucker.
In 2008 when she ran against Obama she said:
As the Forbes article points out, “Clinton would continue the policies of the existing regime, seeking to raise the taxes on the wealthy while enacting and expanding breaks for the lower and middle class.”
The result of their tax and spend policies is a basement economy over eight years and a lousy job market…not to mention a healthcare program that is falling apart at the seams and has caused havoc across the health care system…higher rates, lots of busy work for doctors, doctors retiring….insurance companies leaving Obamacare in half of the states….and California’s Jerry Brown requesting permission to insure illegals in CA. Obama promised this would never happen…watch it happen!
“When she says she’s going to tax the rich she knows the rich will avoid paying high taxes one way or another.”
Then what’s the problem? I don’t understand. Do you want the rich to pay more taxes or less? It’s OK if you don’t know; Trump didn’t either, several months into running for president.
You are wrong that Clinton has no plan to eliminate loopholes:
Clinton’s campaign identified two other loopholes she would seek to close as president: one related to a maneuver hedge funds use to route investments through Bermuda reinsurance companies and another that allows for multi million-dollar, tax-advantaged retirement accounts. Both issues have also already been raised by Obama or others. Clinton will “build on” others’ proposals, according to a campaign aide, who asked not to be named.
Clinton also repeated her call for closing the “carried interest loophole” that allows hedge-fund and private equity managers to pay a lower tax rate but didn’t offer a specific proposal.
http://www.bloomberg.com/politics/articles/2016-01-12/clinton-wants-higher-estate-tax-closed-hedge-fund-loopholes-
Trump wants to repeal the estate tax, which affects only the top 1%. It has nothing to do with small business owners. You are almost certainly never going to be in a high enough tax bracket to be affected by this tax, nor are most Republican voters. The sooner you give up the fantasy that you might, the sooner you can stop voting against your best interests.
Trump’s plan does nothing but give more to the top 1%; Clinton is fighting for the middle class.
You’re also completely wrong about Clinton’s charity. Here are the facts:
The Clinton Foundation spends between 80-90 percent on program services, which experts say is the standard in the industry to define charitable works. It spends the majority of its money directly on projects rather than through third-party grants.
The claim that “a very small percentage is actually spent on charity” comes from a bogus reading of IRS documents. Only a small percentage goes to other nonprofit groups, but the Clinton Foundation does most of its charitable work itself.
Your charge is meant to distract from Trump’s multiple scandals with his own charity. He’s been caught dipping into the kitty so many times it’s pathetic. He has used his charity’s money to buy personal items, settle legal problems, and bribe an attorney general. There is no comparison between the work done by the Clinton Foundation and the fraud perpetuated by Trump’s.
