The UN has ceased to exist as it was originally intended, a place for nations to meet and discuss issues that threaten peaceful coexistance. Instead it has become a beligerantly oppressive taskmaster that seeks authoritarian control and threatens the soverignty of nations. The United States has born the burden of this organization through the hosting facility in New York and funding. A growing number of people are calling for an end to this burden. In one form or another the people are fed up with the overreach of the UN.
A resolution with language that ignores former UN resolutions and falls decidedly against Israel was passed recently. Obama and Kerry have chosen to slap Israel in the process. They look like disgruntled losers, pathetically scrambling to matter. As with everything else this administration has done, the focus is on selfish interests rather than the important and often dangerous issues we must wisely confront in the world.
Kerry’s speech today included an absurd statement: “Israel Can Either Be Jewish or Democratic — It Cannot Be Both”
Israel is already both.
If the Palestinians would agree that Israel has a right to exist, and has a legal and traditional right to certain lands, then an agreement for peaceful coexistance might have a chance. But as long as the Palestinian leaders refuse to acknowledge israels right to exist, Netanyahu is correct in saying there is no basis for negotiations. It is impossible to negotiate peace with those who want to eliminate you.
January 20th will mark a change in US policy and will mark a return to sanity. Perhaps we can, once and for all, give the UN authoriatarians the boot!
Using Obumble/Lurch logic, the Jews in the US will have to make a choice as well. Therefore, they can choose the GOP!
And the white house denial of orchestrating the UN resolution smells a lot like “It was the fault of a video . . . . .”
The UN could move to Antarctica where they can impress the penguins with their hate speeches. Charles Krauthammer said it best: Turn the UN into condos.” Hope TheDonald was listening!
Kerry’s speech today was incoherent. At one point he seemed to go off script and admit the US helped write the UN resolution.
Obama and Kerry need to learn the UN’s history and comply with past agreements/treaties. Read this 2009 LA Times artilcle.
“Too bad international diplomacy doesn’t have a replay button. If it did, the parties could look back at history, which would show that Israeli settlements not only are legitimate under international law but positively encouraged.
The basic relevant provision, the League of Nations’ 1922 British Mandate for Palestine, Article 6, encourages “close settlement by Jews on the land, including state lands and waste lands not required for public use.” Most Israeli settlements in the West Bank have been built on land that was state land under the Ottomans, British, Jordanians and, after the 1967 Six-Day War, under the Israelis, or on property that has been privately purchased.
The United States endorsed Article 6 by signing the 1924 Anglo-American Convention, a treaty stipulating acceptance of the mandate. The League of Nations is long gone, but Article 6 remains in force. The United Nations’ 1945 Charter, Article 80 — sometimes known as “the Palestine article” — notes among other things that “nothing in the charter shall be construed to alter in any manner the rights whatsoever of any states or peoples or the terms of existing international instruments.”
Eugene Rostow, U.S. undersecretary of State for President Lyndon Johnson — who is an authority on international law and the coauthor of U.N. Security Council Resolution 242, which outlines requirements for Arab-Israeli peace — reaffirmed this principle. In 1990, he said: “The Jewish right of settlement in the West Bank is conferred by the same provisions of the mandate under which Jews settled in Haifa, Tel Aviv and Jerusalem before the state of Israel was created.”

And this.
“From US President Barack Obama to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, state leaders at the United Nations General Assembly aren’t missing an opportunity to condemn the Israeli communities in Judea and Samaria, or what they call “illegal Israeli settlements.” However, the term “illegal Israeli settlements” is outdated, incorrect and irrelevant.
Since Israel liberated Judea and Samaria (commonly termed the West Bank) half a century ago, the international community hasn’t missed an opportunity to condemn her presence there, but that doesn’t make it illegal. Israel was forced into a war of survival and captured its historical highlands, which were legally ownerless at the time. The land wasn’t taken from another nation that had legal rights to it. In fact, no other nation on earth has more right to Judea than the people of Judah, aka the Jews.”

And this one too,
The Illegal-Settlements Myth:
“Jewish neighborhoods, towns, and cities in the West Bank may be controversial, but they do not transgress international law.”

“However, the term “illegal Israeli settlements” is outdated, incorrect and irrelevant.”
Fake! Used to generate fake news stories and stir up tensions and trouble.
Three thoughts on Obama’s latest despicable debacle …
The disgraceful treatment of Israel by Obama and Kerry has sealed Obama’s legacy in ignominy.
With “friends” like Obama and Kerry, who needs enemies?
The only thing more condescending, boorish and insufferable than an hour + Kerry speech is one from Obama.
Afraid we haven’t heard the last of Obama. His staying in DC isn’t just because of his daughter finishing school. He’s going to continue his leading from behind on everything to discredit Trump.
Still think he’s worming his was to be the UN president. America was just his stepping stone to be king of the world. Now, I’m hoping Trump severely cuts our funding to the UN and kicks it out of NY. Would love to see it relocated to a country in the ME, Africa or South America. Maybe living Venezuela or Yemen would suit him better.
Will Obama’s absurd and despicable treatment of Israel be his final act of hatred? One thing is certain, Obama’s “legacy” is now sealed in ignominy. And so is Kerry’s. “Genghis Khan” Kerry has been a low-life scum bucket ever since he “served” in Vietnam, lied about his service, rode on the backs of the warriors under his command and smeared the reputations of all who served in Vietnam.
January 20th cannot come too soon when these two vile and petty thugs are forever tossed onto the trash heap of history.
