When the neighborhood bully, a guy who has vandalized your house in the recent past, a guy you could whip with one hand in 2 seconds if it was not for an abundance of restraint and respect for peace, walks up to you says with a nasty scowl, ” I’m going to attack your family real soon and I’m going to mess em up cause I hate you!” You respond by saying (and please choose the most appropriate reply)
- I know you’re not serious. But, hey, is there anything I could do for you, you know, something to improve our relationship so you will stop scaring my family and leave us alone? You might even go so far as to ask him if he would like a gift for the sake of friendship, perhaps a new car? You would be happy to buy him a new car, if that would help you two get along?
2. You don’t offer anything. You tell the little S.O.B. you’re about to rip his fricken head off if he so much as sneezes in the direction of your family. Then you stand there, looking him eye ball to eye ball…and say slowly and firmly, “Well punk, are you going to make my day?”
I don’t know about you, but my choice is solidly 2. I feel when you are up against a person like Kim Jong-Un who takes no end of childish delight in threatening the world’s greatest super, sometimes you need to let him know you mean business. We should take his threats seriously and we will not let him put a gun to our head. That’s what Trump did and I applaud him for it. It’s about time.

If ever there was a boy with gigatons of grown-up toys, it’s Mr. Trump. One bully meets another and suffering ensues–for everyone else.

After 30 YEARS of “negotiating” with NK, there has been no change. And the last 8 years of hand-wringing in the white house only produced chapped hands.
NK’s bombast could very well be met with bomb blast.
It’s all good, as long as we can sit in our bubble of affluence, while millions of Asians die once again. Right Soden? I mean, how else do we explain the casualness of your remark? (Or the loose lips of our Psycho-in-Chief?)
Bubble of affluence? Have you considered the hard work required to create a nation of abundance, of clean water, power and heat, roads, bridges, and plenty. Do you get that our abundance and privilege, as you call it, is the result of individual and group creativity and efforts? Do you understand that it is the result of invention, investment and persistence in the face of adversity? Do you even know that this was made possible because we live in freedom, rather than under the thumb of an evil tyrant like Kim Jong-Un?
Or are you one of the spoiled rotten, perpetually disgruntled Americans who has no appreciation for his good fortune to have been born in such a nation as the United States of America?
America is not without flaws but America is prosperous because of the industriousness of it’s people living under the blessings of liberty and individual rights! And we are, as a result, extremely generous and charitable as well…even with former enemies!
America doesn’t look for fights but neither do we suffer aggressors and bullies when they threaten us or our allies or when they become so deplorable the entire world stands together to say enough!
If people end up dying at this juncture it will be because KJU’s ego and pride are unrelenting and because his cruelty is pathological…he will be the first to fire, either on one of our allies or an American city. He will be the aggressor! Trump has simply issued a warning of the consequences.
Or…KJU will get the message and back off…as he did this morning when he demurred, saying he would only send his missile into the waters near Guam.
President Trump’s strong counter language is not only for Kim Jong-Un’s ears. It stands as a clear message to China and Iran and the terrorist networks that have had a free ride for eight years. And it stands as an assurance for for our allies…it’s important they know that America will not draw useless lines in the sand or tolerate offensive aggression.
The man you should turn your ire upon is a monster with absolute power. His people starve, forced to eat dirt and grass, while he spends all of the wealth on offensive military weaponry. His brutality mirrors that of previous monsters in history, Hitler, Lenin, Pol Pot, Khmere Rouge, Mugabe, Idi Amin Dada, Chiang Kai-shek, Ho Chi Minh, Saddam Hussein and sons, Hideki Tojo, Mao Zedong….

We tried the soft voice and empty threats and carrots that brought us to this point. Free will…Kim will either do the dumb thing or he will back down. At least a strong reminder that we will obliterate HIM, and thus end his reign of power over his people, might give him pause.
Thanks Libby. You are the voice of sanity. These war mongers need to begin with the deep history of the US in Asia. I suggest reading The Empire Cruise. We’ve been messing around for 150 years–and before that, if European colonization is considered. Most of these Trump-Americans seem to think history began with the last Fox News broadcast. Sad.

American diplomatic efforts in Asia were built around the Open Door policy, an agreement to keep trade in China open. In addition to the US, Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Japan, and Russia signed on. Japan was the nation that broke with the Open Door policy starting in 1931 by making extra demands on China and eventually taking control of Mukden, an aggression that eventually led to war.
Japan was the aggressor. Japan broke it’s agreement.
The US placed embargoes on exports to Japan as a result. Many people think this was the main reason that Japan chose to bomb Pearl Harbor.
If there was a “neighborhood bully” operating in Asia in the early 1900’s it was Japan.
If you’re going to look “deep” you had better be prepared to look at the whole picture, at the intentions and ambitions of other leaders. Anything else is just a “sad” excuse for hating America.

North Korea probably has a nuclear warhead small enough to fit on a ballistic missile, according to a new assessment by the Pentagon’s intelligence arm that comes amid growing alarm over Pyongyang’s warmongering.
The conclusion by the Defense Intelligence Agency said the weapon would have “low reliability,” but the disclosure during a congressional hearing Thursday is likely to raise fresh concerns about North Korea’s capabilities and intentions.
Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-Colo.) read what he said was an unclassified section of the DIA report while questioning Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, during a session of the House Armed Services Committee. Lamborn said the DIA had concluded “with moderate confidence” that Pyongyang “has nuclear weapons capable of delivery by ballistic missiles; however, the reliability will be low.”
