So, if you thought CEO’s were the only rotten eggs in this recession, think again! The Wall Street Journal article, “Unions v. Taxpayers,” by Steve Malanga offers evidence of a mighty big and powerful smelly egg.
This should be a must read for any working fool in America but California voters who will go to the polls next week should not cast a vote without this information. One particular excerpt really caught my attention:
** A study in 2005 by the nonpartisan Employee Benefit Research Institute estimated that the average public-sector worker earned 46% more in salary and benefits than comparable private-sector workers. The gap has only continued to grow. For example, state and local worker pay and benefits rose 3.1% in the last year, compared to 1.9% in the private sector, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). *** But the real power of the public sector is showing through in this economic crisis. Some five million private-sector workers have lost their jobs in the last year alone, and their unemployment rate is above 9% according to the BLS. By contrast, public-sector employment has grown in virtually every month of the recession, and the jobless rate for government workers is a mere 2.8%. For anyone who thinks such low unemployment numbers are good news, remember that the bulging public sector must be paid for with revenues that most governments don’t currently have. **
Government is big and bloated, that’s a no-brainer! So think about it and ask:
1. Am I willing to continue to let these public “servants” hold my paycheck hostage?
2. Is it worth it to continue supporting BIG government when it is my work, my sweat, my family’s sacrifice, my meager pocket that is pillaged to pay these bloated wages and benefits?
3. Who will create the wealth in this nation if we continue along this path of growing and favoring the public sector while at the same time destroying the private sector?
4. How long will it be until there are so many people riding in the government cart (both workers and dependents) that the rest of us cannot possibly earn enough to support them? (HINT: we’re already there! Time to join the party of “NO” to stop this monster before it eats us all alive)
