As near as we can tell, the coinage of term “identity politics” began with the left sometime around 1979, and I’m sure you heard it mentions… but, what exactly is it? The dictionary version says it’s when a group of people is recognized solely for their race, religion, culture, ethnicity, in order to promote their politics around a narrow agenda, without regard to the broader needs of the general population.
At times we see this in single issue voters, but mostly it’s wrapped around racism and a divisive agenda embraced by the far left. Most recently, the democratic party has been heavily invested in identity politics. They use class warfare (pitting rich against poor), exploiting racist fears among minorities, or raising false narratives among the young and elderly just to capture votes. Remember when the evil republicans were out to starve children by cuts in the school lunch program? Fear and anger are great motivators and nobody does it better than the democrats. But, all this rhetoric comes at a cost to the republic.
For example, my grandson was sitting in his college writing class when the teacher had them read a short story about lions in a Baghdad zoo that were machine gunned by invading American troops. The desired reaction was soon echoed by a young girl who said, “F— America!” My grandson took exception to her remark, and he informed her he was a veteran and her ignorant insult to our country was based on a piece of fiction designed to play on her emotions! He was one lone voice among the rest of the class and the teacher who sided more with the girl. The identity politics in play here was the anti-war, college aged leftists. But, it could just as easily been the gun grabbers.
Sadly the nation is being divided along so many political lines one has to wonder, what is left over for us? What’s left to feel good about in America? I say this in part because virtually every character in American history has been vilified by the far left. The hate blame is layed on people like Thomas Jefferson to Daniel Boone or Robert E. Lee. You almost can’t name a single white man in our nations history that has not been maligned for racism, greed, exploitation of indigenous people or some great misdeed. This is why history’s revisionists have earned a high place among identity politics and it’s why the great melting pot is now failing us. Yes, the old pot has cooled and new generations are taking over with a belief in entitlements over personal achievement, wealth redistribution over creative entrepreneurs, we have too many sub-cultures filled with anger and resentment, absent national pride and patriotism. But, instead of democrats recognizing the error of their ways, they are doubling down. Can’t wait to see where this will take us in another 50 years

You are absolutely right about the Democrat Party. They have chosen a path of division. They have adopted a plan of “resistance” based on identity politics making those in power the evil that must be resisted. Disrespecting opposition voices and leaders has become another tool in their little bag of tricks.
I’m not sure it’s working all that well for them. They look nasty and resentful. they offer nothing positive nor do they have solutions.

US troops kill Baghdad lions
Four starving lions which dug their way out of a Baghdad zoo have been shot dead by American soldiers, the military says.
Two of the big cats lunged for the US troops who then fired at them, one soldier said.
The lions were among hundreds of animals abandoned at the zoo.
Most of the others were stolen by looters or released in the aftermath of the US takeover of the Iraqi capital.
But the thieves left seven lions and two tigers in their cages, unfed for 10 or more days.

“Two of them charged our guys. We had to take them down,” he said.

The US 3rd Infantry which controls Baghdad has now posted guards at the zoo to protect the big cats as well as two released bears which wandered back.
The remaining animals are now fed regularly with supplies donated by Kuwait.

How can you moan about the consequences of such behavior without looking like a whiner? Peoples that start wars rarely come off looking real good. Shouldn’t you be able to suck it up? Isn’t it kind of childish, irrational, to insist on respect, when you do not behave respectably?
How can we object to President Xi, taking a lesson from this uprighteous democracy we is currently running, and declaring himself president for life? (This is sarcasm, in case anyone is unsure.)
Yes Libs, the story characterized young American army soldiers gunning down the lions for the hell of it. But, remember this was a work of fiction to which our young twit invested her emotions in and blurted out the expletive, F— America.
Libby, people that start wars typically don’t fight them. However, that being said here’s some examples where leaders really got theirs. it took awhile, but there were plenty of leaders that got their come uppins in WWI. I just finished a class on that war and it didn’t workout at all like Kaiser Wilhelm thought. He thought God was on his side and sometimes he thought he was God, but God wasn’t and he wasn’t. He lost everything, his fortune, his kingdom and he went into exile. Next up was Tsar Nicolas of Russia. Do ya think that in 1915 that ol Nicky had a clue that by 1917 he and his entire family would be shot dead? Thus ended the 300 year reign of the Romanoff’s. Think King George of England envisioned that he would bankrupt his nation and lose over 800,000 of fellow citizens before the war was over? He always issued orders starting with, “By powers granted by God…” Nope, God didn’t actually make him King and he wasn’t on England’s side either, but America was and that saved his butt. Funny that it took until only the last 7-8 decades that most folks finally figured that out, Kings were not ordained by God. One heck of a lot of wealthy and not so wealthy Europeans lost their fortunes and lives over WWI. Libs, you know WWI started over a misunderstanding, right? An assassination that had nothing much to do with anyone actually in power…stupid.
And … the only way I can imagine that any of this has anything to do with “identity” politics is if, perhaps, the objector in class was … of color? In which case, this post is really about white knickers twisted, cause bad behavior was called out by non-white knickers. We gotta come up with a pill for this.
Jack, either the behavior was bad, or it wasn’t. The ethnicity of the objector is supposed to be irrelevant … but it never is … is it?
At no point did I read where Jack was putting a ethnic spin on this post, the only thing I read was a student uttered a slur toward America, and our military.
Possibly that might not have happened provided the teacher provided a article (like that of CS) that correctly explained the reasons the lions were shot, my guess at this point he did not.
I would also like to know what format was given the class to read by the teacher, was it accurate depiction of the facts or pure fiction.
Regarding the racist comment that Libby makes went she imagined something not stated or even in evidence, Libby conjuring and misleading comment about a “twisting of white nickers called out by non-white knickers” is purely racially inflammatory and contains more fiction that what his grandson possibly reported after reading the teachers hand out.
Liberal’s and their constant attempt to misinform through creation of fake news on any subject, is the leading cause of the current division in America today.
