All comments welcome, especially criticism. That’s how I learn. This is an acrylic on canvas, 24X30. The pontoons have rubber bumpers have blue reflections. Pontoons have twin rudders. That’s supposed to be a stainless steel spinner on prop and that’s a lightly rusted exhaust pipe coming out of the engine cowling at 7 o’clock. Does it look real?
There is a passenger door right above what appears to be a ladder and pontoon support. Radial engine of course.
Notice the granite rock on the 2nd mountain range?
Cumulonimbus clouds depicted in the far background with the highest clouds starting to streak like cirrus. Notice the gentle transition from light to dark blue in the sky? The actual painting is much better of course, the colors more vivid and the detail easier to see.
Any questions, feel free to ask.
Nice job Jack!
Looks great! Brings back memories – was passenger in one of these on my first visit to Alaska over Misty Fjords National Monument. Nice ride and not to be missed if stopping in Ketchikan!
Memories, indeed… I had a nearly 10-year air traffic controller career, first in base operations down at beautiful Homer, Alaska and then in Anchorage, at Merrill Field (a madhouse in summer), and then at Anchorage International, approach & departure radar ground floor, & local control up in the tower. In the tower rotations, we also controlled Lake Hood seaplane base just NE of International’s runways. An STOL (short-takeoff & landing) aircraft, the de Havilland Beaver was a fabulous workhorse for Alaska, could get in & out of super-small lakes if need be, carrying people & all kinds of goods. Powerful light aircraft were godsends in Alaska, the best way to get around, due to damned few roads. Alaska was gorgeous & great fun, but some of the winters really can get you down. The US Army took me up there (baseops at Fort Richardson airfield just East of Anchorage, and I signed up with the FAA for ATC when I got out). At 12 years, I had enough & went south to CA & back to school for a different career.
Was fortunate enough to visit Ft. Richardson for July 4th Celebration when Sen Ted Stevens spoke.
Great area in the Summer but a bit cold during Winter. Even so, would like to revisit Alaska. Great place – great people! And great fishing!
Thanks for your service JB. Please visit the Chico Air Museum, I think you’ll like it!
