Yesterday, Walter Shaub, former head of the U.S. Office of Government Ethics during the Obama Administration told the media, ” White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders violated ethical procedure when she used her official White House Twitter account to complain about being kicked out of a Virginia restaurant. Sanders tweeted, “Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left. Her actions say far more about her than about me. I always do my best to treat people, including those I disagree with, respectfully and will continue to do so” End of tweet. This is what has Shaub and other liberals crying foul!
Sanders used her @PressSec Twitter account Saturday about the Red Hen restaurant that refused to serve her Friday, and according to Schaub that is an ethics violation because she used a public account for personal gain. Shaub says this is the same as if a law enforcement officer flashed his badge to prevent being thrown out under similar circumstances.
Shaub is an idiot and his comparison proves it.
Sanders responded after the incident went public, and not before. There was no gain involved. She was not attempting to use her position to influence the owner’s actions…that was already done! She was merely responding to a second and more public controversy that began when the owners employee went public on face book and started this whole bruh haha. That’s completely different than a cop flashing a badge to get service.
Furthermore, the Twitter account is not paid for with public money, it’s a free account! But, if it were paid by the taxpayers, it would still not matter. Sanders is well within her right to respond in her own defense to a public incident. As an aside, I thought her reply was professional, it was measured, reasonable and dignified. So big deal. I’ve seen press secretaries say and do much worse while standing at the press podium, without creating any flap whatsoever, but then they were liberals acting under a democratic administration.
What Walter Shaub is conflating are two completely separate issues, as in apples and oranges. He’s saying a police officer, acting under color of authority, can’t use that leverage for personal gain and that’s true, but Sarah Huckabee-Sanders has no color of authority and even if she did, she sure didn’t use it! A person has a right to reply to personal attack on their character, especially when its gone public (See 1st amendment right). The White House Twitter account is used for disseminating information to the public without news media being involved. From an ethical and legal basis, it was totally within her prerogative as the White House Press Secretary to use that account in the manner that she did.
Now if you want to talk real ethics violation, then lets take a look at what Congresswoman Maxine Waters-D, Los Angeles recently said. In response to the immigration zero tolerance action put forth by the White House, she said, “You think we’re rallying now. You ain’t seen nothing yet. Already you have members of your cabinet being booed out of restaurants…protesters taking up at their house saying no peace – no sleep.” She would go on to say, how Trump’s “cabinet members won’t be able to go into a gas station, shop at a department store or eat in a restaurant.” This sounds incredibly close to giving marching orders to protesters. These are people she supports and sometimes directs to rally on her behalf. It appears the Congresswoman is calling for very specific ways that could be used like extortion. This sort of talk is very close to inciting criminal behavior by a mob. Was she acting in a manner befitting her status as a member of Congress, you tell me?
Maxine Waters is no stranger to ethics violations, she was charged with 3 counts of corruption back in 2010 and by 2012 she beat the rap. But, not because the charges against Waters were not true, they were, but they were dismissed for considerations other than in the interests justice.
“I’ve seen press secretaries say and do much worse while standing at the press podium, without creating any flap whatsoever, but then they were liberals acting under a democratic administration.”
Name one.
This is just more of the “poor persecuted me” you all come out with regularly, which is particularly annoying when you are complaining about “tea party” tactics that are being, in turn, used against you!
Boo, boo ….
We aren’t persecuted Libby.
We are under assault! (See examples in my next post)
Your party doesn’t believe in the peaceful exchange of ideas or well reasoned debate as a pathway to problem solving and legislation. Your party believes in the Saul Alinsky method… defeating the opposition (your “enemies”) through ridicule, abasement, lies, deception, agitation and control.
Your party has turned it’s back on the republic and embraced mob rule! Tyranny!
“Name one”
Robert Gibbs. Robert Gibbs wasn’t content to respond to remarks by Dick Cheney with the president’s position on the issue(s) – he chose ridicule and what appears to be a bid for acceptance and approval from the equally mean-spirited and intolerant (childish and arrogant) left media.
“…complaining about “tea party” tactics that are being, in turn, used against you!”
The Tea Party wasn’t around in the 1930’s, 1960’s…and on and on when your party began these tactics of “revolution.” You invented this stuff.
The Tea Party doesn’t even exist as an organized single unit. There is no leadership to issue marching orders a la Barack Obama or Maxine Waters. In fact it began spontaneously with a march on Washington that rivaled that of MLK and surprised the crap out of all of us! It’s only rallying cry was “taxed enough already.”
Your party immediately did the Alinsky thing and tried to turn it into a race mob…the LIARS!
Just like a progressive to try to turn the situation upside down. But then, it’s a tradition with your (KKK) party. You successfully and erroneously branded the party of Lincoln as the big racists back during Johnson’s term through the same methods and to this day people believe it was Republicans that voted so many times against civil rights law.
(Look it up trolls)
Re: “Shaub is an idiot and his comparison proves it.”
Yep, but he got his fifteen minutes of
fameshame. His former colleagues must be rolling their eyes.Rep Maxine Waters needs a good spanking. Will the House do its job? Will the House “ethics” department do theirs? Waters may be in violation of the law for inciting violence. Will the office of the attorney general do thei job and look into it?
Probably not, Waters is part of two protected groups.
Hope they nail her.
Judicial Watch files House ethics complaint against Maxine Waters for ‘inciting violence’:
“udicial Watch filed Monday an ethics complaint against Rep. Maxine Waters for “inciting violence and assaults on the Trump Cabinet,” according to Tom Fitton, president of the watchdog organization.
The group sent a hand-delivered letter to the chairman and co-chairman of the House Office of Congressional Ethics calling for an investigation into whether the California Democrat violated House ethics rules by encouraging violence against Trump Cabinet members.
Ms. Waters made her remarks Saturday during a rally in Los Angeles, during which she entreated participants to “push back” on Trump staffers in public places such as restaurants or gas stations.
“In encouraging individuals to create ‘crowds’ who will ‘push back’ on President Trump’s Cabinet members at private business establishments and in seemingly trying to prevent these Cabinet officials from obtaining basic necessities without fear of assault and violence, Rep. Waters seems to be violation of House rules,” Mr. Fitton wrote.
He specifically cited House Rule 23, clause which requires lawmakers and others within the House to behave ‘in a manner that shall reflect creditably on the House.”

Meanwhile in Iran …
Iranian Protestors Swarm Streets Chanting, ‘Death to Palestine’
This is encouraging.
It is indeed.
The idea that there even was an “ethics office ” in the Obumble admin is laughable all by itself. Sure didn’t do much, did he?
Somewhat off topic . . . . .
Remember the big flap during the Obumble years about our privacy vs goofernment listening in – and we were assured that it wasn’t happening??????

Guess we can add that to the list of Obumble’s lies. Pretty soon, we’ll need an app to keep track of them all!
This Robert Gibbs?
From Wiki: In an interview with The Hill, Gibbs derided the “professional left” and “liberals,” who “wouldn’t be satisfied if Dennis Kucinich was president.”
Sounds like a fairly even-handed guy to me.
“Sounds like a fairly even-handed guy to me.”
Big woop! You asked for an example and I gave you one.
Sarah is as “even handed” as any other…she’s politely deals with the press every day. She’s made a number of very classy statements in response to horrible accusations issued as questions. Her statement in response to being thrown out of The Red Hen was typical:
Ever notice how your party loves to crap all over women in the Republican party who are in positions of authority or stature? It started long ago…Nancy Reagan and …Condi Rice…Laura Bush…and going forward it got more and more intolerant and crude!
Bunch of phonies!
Dems don’t just go after republican women, they also go after their children with everything from hurting to killing them.
Anyone who doesn’t follow their jackboot mandates is threatened, showing just how unhinged they’re becoming. Six out of ten republicans are now fearful the radical left will hurt others, just like they did Steve Scalise.
