  1. Soaps says:

That was just about the weakest interview I ever tried to watch before I turned it off. What I would like to see is the list of questions that O’Reilly had to agree not to ask in exchange for Barak agreeing to the interview.

  2. Tina says:

    No kidding!

You know Soaps, he is just folks. Can’t expect too much.

  3. Chris says:

Soaps–“What I would like to see is the list of questions that O’Reilly had to agree not to ask in exchange for Barak agreeing to the interview.”

What questions do you think would be on such a list, Soaps? It seemed to me that O’Reilly asked about the most pressing issues facing the country today–Egypt, Islamofascist terrorism, healthcare reform, etc. He also gave ample time to discussing critiques of the president’s policies, so I’m not sure why you think there were some sort of backstage shenanigans going on here. Perhaps you’re disappointed that O’Reilly didn’t take a page from 30 Rock and ask him, “Why are you a terrorist who hates America?”

Also, his first name is “Barack,” not “Barak.” You can see it on his birth certificate right here:

  4. Peggy says:

O’Reilly said he would write his questions about an hour before the interview.

He should have taken more time. Asking someone why people hate you doesn’t show respect for the person and the position he holds. Nor does it add to the fair and balanced theme of Fox.

I was not impressed. Would rather have seen Beck interview him.

  5. Chris says:

“Asking someone why people hate you doesn’t show respect for the person and the position he holds. Nor does it add to the fair and balanced theme of Fox.”

I can’t believe I’m defending O’Reilly, but he did ask this question of Bush as well. It can be argued that it’s a disrespectful question, but I don’t think it was unfair.

As far as the “fair and balanced” theme of Fox News, that ship sailed long ago. Although I do think it’s interesting that much of the hatred directed at Obama has resulted from misinformation peddled by O’Reilly’s own network.

“I was not impressed. Would rather have seen Beck interview him.”

Sure, that makes sense. O’Reilly was too unfair toward Obama, so let’s get the guy who called the president a “racist” with a “deep-seated hatred of white people” to do a more balanced interview. Seriously, Peggy?

Giving an interview to Beck would be acknowledging him as a legitimate journalist, a position which Beck has not earned, but gleefully sabotaged.

  6. Peggy says:

Both Beck and O’Reilly have stated they are not journalist, they are commentators. My saying Beck would have done a better interview was because I think he would have put more time and effort in formulating the questions I/we would have liked answered.

Just because he asked Bush why people hated him still doesn’t make it less of a mean-sprited question and one I wouldn’t ask someone I didn’t like, let alone the Presidents of the United States.

  7. Chris says:

“Both Beck and O’Reilly have stated they are not journalist, they are commentators”

    Good point.

“My saying Beck would have done a better interview was because I think he would have put more time and effort in formulating the questions I/we would have liked answered.”

    For instance?

I, personally, would have loved to see Beck ask the important question of ACORN’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Would have been good for a laugh, at least.

  8. Peggy says:

Personally I dont like watching OReilly, Hannity or Cavuto. They constantly interrupt their guest instead of letting us hear what they have to say.

Beck I have learned to get past how he presents his information and appreciate the actual facts. I am kind of a history nut, and with the actual videos, documents, etc. he presents along with his constantly saying not to take his or anyone elses word for anything and to look it up, presents information much like my professors did or should have.

If you havent watched his show, try it for a week and tell me what you think. Its on at 2pm every day with repeats on the weekend.

    Hey Chris, Check this out.

    NYT to Glenn: Happy Birthday!
Thursday, Feb 10, 2011 at 11:10 AM EST

Every morning, Glenn meets with all his producers to go over the news of the day and to pick what he wants to focus on for radio and TV. Usually its just your typical story of the day involving communists, unions, or Islamic extremists. Nothing too exciting. But sometimes theres a story that just makes Glenn and the producers smile because it proves everything they have been saying for weeks. Today, the New York Times decided to give Glenn a big ol birthday present by printing a story that proves everything he has been saying!

Lets recap really quickly what Glenns crazy theory was:

    1) Groups from the hardcore socialist left and extreme Islam will work together because of the common enemy of Israel.

    2) Groups from the hardcore socialist left and extreme Islam will work together because of the common enemy of capitalism.

    3) Groups from the hardcore socialist left, and extreme Islam will work together to overturn relative stability, because the in the status quo, they are both ostracized from power and the mainstream in most of the world.

And what did the New York Times have to say?

In the process many have formed some unusual bonds that reflect the singularly nonideological character of the Egyptian youth revolt, which encompasses liberals, socialists and members of the Muslim Brotherhood.

I like the Brotherhood most, and they like me, said Sally Moore, a 32-year-old psychiatrist, a Coptic Christian and an avowed leftist and feminist of mixed Irish-Egyptian roots. They always have a hidden agenda, we know, and you never know when power comes how they will behave. But they are very good with organizing, they are calling for a civil state just like everyone else, so let them have a political party just like everyone else

    Glenns reaction?

I would like to know from the New York Times, why are they engaging in this conspiracy theory? he asked.

Why are they just making, inventing connections, inventing them? Stu added.

Because what they have said here is that this Egyptian youth revolt encompasses liberals, socialists, and members of the Muslim Brotherhood, Pat said.

First I was crazy because theres a Caliphate. Now I believe, Im not sure, I havent read the executive order, but Friday may be Caliphate Day in America after Barack Obama signs the executive order. Thats how far weve come on Caliphate. Everyone is agreeing that theres a possibility of a Caliphate and thats what everyone wants.

Yeah, but it was so ridiculous to say that leftist groups might work with Islamic groups and Muslim Brotherhood, Pat said.

So who now owes Glenn an apology?

    1) Every show on MSNBC Were looking at you Chris Matthews

    2) Many shows on CNN Anderson, youre cool

    3) Im sure Im going to be getting a, you know, a pagelong apology from the Weekly Standard. Start typing now William Kristol

As Stu pointed out in support of Glenns theory, Theyre doing it because theyre good at organizing. Again these pragmatic reasons they work together at the beginning. Even though they will differ ideologically later. And secondly, were working with them to make it seem like its more universal. Like the cause is more universal.

And what might be the hidden agenda mentioned in the article? Caliphate!

When will the New York Times stop stealing Glenns material?! Hes got the market cornered on crazy theories. This is just ridiculous. Before you know it, people like Bill Kristol and Chris Matthews will be reporting this New York Times theory without actually reporting that Glenn has been saying these same things since Day 1 of his Egypt coverage!

  10. Post Scripts says:

“Personally I dont like watching OReilly, Hannity or Cavuto. They constantly interrupt their guest instead of letting us hear what they have to say.” Peggy

I feel the same way. I quit listening to them because of how rude they were to guests. They think they have to interrupt all the time to keep it lively, but it’s really just annoying.

  11. Chris says:

Peggy, you failed to show how the New York Times confirmed any of the three points of Glenn’s theory that you listed. No mention of a common enemy of Israel, no mention of a common enemy of capitalism, and no mention of “overturning stability.” No one has disputed that socialists and radical Islamists may find themselves working together in Egypt. Given that Egypt is an economically oppressed country in the Middle East, this is in no way surprising to anyone. What most people reject is the idea that progressives, as a whole, and the American left are working with the Muslim Brotherhood in order to install a global caliphate. You will not find the New York Times, or any other legitimate news source, confirming such nonsense.
