Obama – Suddenly He’s the Oil & Gas Man

Posted by Tina

HT: Jim Geraghty, National Review

But hold on a minute! This just in…the O-man, having realized that $4.00 gasoline brings headaches in his re-election bid, is now slamming that high cost energy pitch in the ditch:

In an effort to defuse Republican and oil industry pressure over drilling permits and soothe public anger over gasoline prices, President Obama is ordering the Interior Department to conduct annual lease sales in Alaska’s National Petroleum Reserve and speed up seismic work that is a precursor to drilling off the south and mid-Atlantic coasts.

In his Saturday radio address, Obama said he would also extend oil company leases in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska where work was delayed by the drilling moratorium the president imposed during the massive Gulf of Mexico oil spill resulting from a blowout on a BP well.

Sadly, it’s become quite apparent that Obama makes policy decisions based on what’s good for Obama

(Oh really?…mmm hmmmm…)

In this case it’s about what might get him re-elected, not what works best for the American people. (His green pals get it, wink wink.)

Watch for the second act where he jumps into the clown shoes and publicly whines that he’s given the Republicans everything they’ve asked for…and they’re still not happy!…as he yuks it up about how the next thing Republicans will want is a gas pump in every yard!

Can we dump this budget busting, high energy price supporting, wealth spreading, chooser of winners and losers in 2012?

Yes…yes we can!

Just for fun take a good look at this gas buddy map. We in California are enjoying some of the highest pump prices in the land…no thanks to the man.

Sweet Pea … if you are all for democracy in the Middle East … you are all for $4 gasoline … so just get over it.

Has anybody noticed how very, very quiet Mr. Cheney and his ilk have been lately?

Hold onto your socks, people … and your sweaters.

  2. sue says:

Really Libby? You have been drinking much of the Kool-aid? Get over Bush and Cheney, they are not in office anymore, so demonizing them doesn’t work. Your guy, Obama, actually wanted high gasoline prices. He also has continued the policies of the Bush administration in the Middle East. Liberals are caught in a Catch 22. Whatever you have to say at this point is hypocritical.

Sugar Plum…there is nothing to get over.

The ME has been a factor in oil speculation and pricing for decades…it played a real hum dinger of a part under Carter…

…his energy tax ushered in America’s dependence on ME oil:

    http://www.canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/33689

On April 2, 1980, Carter signed the Domestic Crude Oil Windfall Profits Tax, a direct attack on U.S. oil companies. The result, says Graham, was that half a million oil workers lost their jobs. In January 1980, U.S. oil production was 8.7 million barrels a day. Foreign oil imports went from 2.9 million barrels of oil per day in February 1983 to the current 9 million barrels of oil per day.

You dont have to be a mathematical genius to understand these numbers. From 8.7 million barrels of oil a day in 1980, U.S. oil production has fallen to 5.6 million barrels of oil a day today. Thats a lot of oil that remains untapped domestically and offshore of America.

    …his overall policies were a nightmare…

    http://dailycaller.com/2011/03/08/observers-question-end-result-of-obamas-energy-agenda/

When it came to energy in the 1970s, the federal governments policies were plagued with oil embargoes, price controls, Mid-East unrest, and perceived petroleum shortages. What resulted was a dramatic spike in prices at the pump and long lines of idling cars as they waited to fill their tanks, while President Carter appeared on television urging Americans to use less.

Now, some observers say that the ongoing turmoil in the Middle East, combined with President Obamas energy policies will result in a similar experience.

No sh*t Sherlock…and you can’t run or hide from the effect that Obama’s economic and energy policies are having on energy speculators, the economy, and jobs:

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/50417.html

When Interior Secretary Ken Salazar heads before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee on Wednesday, Americans particularly the 9.2 million directly or indirectly working in the oil and gas industry would be ill served if the question isnt asked: Are the thousands, and counting, of out-of-work Americans in the Gulf region and beyond a worthwhile consequence of your departments freeze?

The Interior Departments six-month moratorium on offshore oil production has cost 8,169 jobs, according to a study by one Louisiana State University professor, along with more than $487 million in wages and nearly $98 million in forfeited state tax revenues in the Gulf states alone.

This doesnt include the impact felt nationwide by truckers who transport goods, farmers who use oil to raise and harvest crops and working families paying more at the pump.

Not exactly a confidence building scenario. And let’s not forget…printing all that money so we can “invest” in green energy, bailouts, jobs saved and other fairy tale stuff means our dollars are worth less when buying at the pump.

Geeez…you do have some sanctimonious cheek. You stand right smack dab in the middle of the Obama mess and still still to invoke Dick Cheney as the boogie man.

You do know how rediculous it makes you seem? (I know you’re smarter than this)

“Get over Bush and Cheney, they are not in office anymore”
    I’m SO glad!
Now we can stop giving them credit for killing Osama.

  5. Quentin Colgan says:

Obama is DOING EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT and yet, you still bitch.
If it looks like a racist, talks like a racist, and bitches like a racist . . .

  6. Post Scripts says:

Quentin: Obama is NOT doing what intelligent people want to bring America around to lower energy prices. Not by a long shot!!! IF he were, we would be drilling in ANWAR and dozens of more places in the US and we would developing NG fields to be used in NG powered vehicles instead of this idiotic corn alcohol plan. What he IS doing is laying a new capital gains tax on the oil companies. Of course that will just get passed along to consumers at the pump. Really smart – not!

  7. Tina says:

Q this blog is about politics. Politics is messy. There’s criticism all around. YOU criticize relentlessly…what’s your problem?

I don’t like the presidents policies…that makes me a racist? Come on, you’re kidding, right? Obama is not doing exactly what I want…Obama is screwing around to make it look like he is. Obama is a flim flam man.

Q, you have no reason to cry racism. You and your ilk do that because you can’t really stand on his record. And by the way…Obama’s white half is equally incompetant and offensive to my sensibilities.

He’s screwing with you, with all of us, and you’re lapping it up like a good little pup.

    Good post Sue!
