Following a severe weather warning broadcast on the radio about ten minutes after five a tornado touched down in the Durham area. No reports of damage or injury as of yet. The storm was moving slowly in an easterly direction about 12 miles south of Chico. Rain and hail was intense enough to bring traffic to a stop for several minutes. Rains was calculated to be coming in at the peak at the rate of 6 inches per hour.
If the current weather turns warm and melts the deep snow pack the extra heavy run off is likely to cause some flooding in the Butte, Glenn, Tehema ,Yuba and Sutter county regions. Residents are advised to be alert for emergency weather warnings. Picture is not the actual tornado, as of yet no pictures are available.
KNVN caller reported it took the roof off his barn and distroyed a large tractor and moved it 20 ft.
Another caller was watching another one just south of Butte college headed for Table Mt.
Quarter size hail hit in south Butte too. That’s big enough to do real damage.
Praying no one is hurt like in the central states.
Lucky that it didn’t hit some houses. Thanks for the update Peggy!
I live in south Chico and we had hail the size of my thumb and it lasted longer than any hail storm I have ever encountered. It was also raining buckets so maybe the hail let up sooner than I think it did. It was one hell of a show! Look what a beautiful day it gave us.
