This morning the President took to the podium to once again lecture congress (REPUBLICANS) about raising the debt-ceiling. His OWN contribution to the negotiations remain firmly fuzzy except that he’s still convinced that imposing higher taxes on job creators is the answer to a DC spending problem that is out of control.
I seem to recall a few choice words from the President. Something about inheriting a debt problem and the previous administration driving us into the ditch. His answer then was to spend lots of money to fix our problems. We got QE1 and then later QE2. Now the debt is to the moon. Now he’s driven us over a cliff with unprecedented spending. He and the Pelosi Reid congress have racked up more debt than under any other president in history! Now he wants permission to spend even more because, lets face it, that is what raising the debt-ceiling is and always has been about…the ability of Congress to spend and spend and spend….and spend some more. Debt is about their having spent more than the budget allowed…again and again and again.
The President says that the American people are firmly behind him. He insists that that 80% of the American people agree with him that taxes should be raised. There is a Vanity Fair/MSNBC poll that supports his claim…HOWEVER…the following polls reveal a much different picture:
Only 18% of Americans are willing to pay higher taxes to lower the federal budget deficit, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
Just 34% think a tax hike should be included in any legislation to raise the debt ceiling. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 55% disagree and say it should not
“A CBS News poll finds that Americans strongly prefer cutting spending to raising taxes to reduce the federal deficit. While 77 percent prefer to cut spending, just nine percent call for raising taxes. Another nine percent want to do both.”
…a new poll by the Associated Press and CNBC gives some clues about what the American people think.
By 59% to 30%, Americans believe that Congress should cut federal spending rather than raise taxes. A clear majority of Democrats acknowledged that spending cuts were inevitable, while almost half of Republicans thought some tax increases would eventually occur.
No, the American people are BEING sold – a bill of goods by the Podium-Pounder-In_Chief. You would expect a poll sponsored by MSNBC to have skewed numbers in favor of the Prez, but this one we’re unable to swallow.
Perhaps the Prez considers whatever comes off the Tele-Promp_Ter screen as gospel and the rest of us should not question it. Sorry, Charlie. Time to get a new pollster.
Of course, anyone can tell (everybody knows) that this debate is all about race.
“Jackson Lee: Congress complicating debt ceiling because Obama is black”
http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/171807-sheila-jackson-lee-suggests-congress-complicating-debt-ceiling-because-obama-is-black
I guess he’s worked the room so long he’s forgotten there are real people who can read out here…LOL
It’s becoming quite clear they can’t control the dialogue anymore…yahoo!
If I were a black man I would demand Obama’s DNA be tested. I would want to distance myself and all other black people from Obama.
Oh and I know this is off topic but I am waiting for PS’s response to California teaching “gay history” in public schools starting with kindergartners. I have a couple of questions.
I tried to contact Jackson Lee about her stance but she won’t take e-mails from anybody outside her district and she won’t list her snail mail address.
What’s she afraid of? A differing opinion?
The majority of Americans approve of raising taxes on wealthy Americans. I’m not a wealthy American but since no poll asked me, Ill post it here. Anyone who believes in arbitrarily raising taxes on their neighbor for no greater reason than they have more stuff than you, is no better than a thief. We don’t have a right to our neighbors property simply because they happen to be better at acquiring things than we are.
Toby…yes we’ve been a bit busy lately. I’ll see what I can do.
Nick…this non-wealthy American couldn’t have said it better!
Such clarity…can we bottle it…our citizens could use an easily delivered jolt of founding grounding!
Since we have not raised taxes on the wealthy, why have they not created any jobs? Just sayin….
In 2006 didn’t they have a vote to raise the debt limit? I wonder how that vote went? Who voted yes and who voted no.
Joe Shaw: “Since we have not raised taxes on the wealthy, why have they not created any jobs?
This is an excellent question and one that deserves an answer…repeated over and over again! Thank you for the opportunity to repeat!
The curent president has taken a hostile position toward business in general. It started even before he was elected with promises that energy prices would go up under his administration and that he would bankrupt the coal industry (see video at link):
http://hotair.com/archives/2008/11/02/obama-well-bankrupt-any-new-coal-plants/
Since his election Obama has done his best to fulfill that promise, bypassing Congress, through his appointed heads…the EPA, for insance:
http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Politics/2011/0707/EPA-tells-coal-fired-plants-to-reduce-pollution.-Some-may-just-shut-down
These measures will not only harm the coal industry they will make energy prices skyrocket for other businesses and for consumers.
His policies to reduce and restrict drilling for gas and oil follow the same line of thinking and have the same discouraging result.
Next this president and Congress passed Obamacare. It contains new regualtions and taxes. Some will not kick in until after he is no longer president (they won’t hurt him) but they do make businessmen feel very nervous and uncertain about the future:

Employees and Energy are both areas of high cost for employers. If an employer is faced with uncertainty and threats that these costs could go way up he isn’t very likely to risk spending money on company growth or new hires. Instead he will hunker down and pray he survives.

On March 16, 2006 the debt ceiling was raised by a vote of 52-48 in the United States Senate.

Joe here’s an article that explains in greater depth why businesses are not hiring:

Tina, you guys are doing a bang up job as always!
Thanks for answering Joe’s question so thoroughly Tina. I hope he takes the time to educate himself. Maybe he will get a better understanding of why we are in the situation we find ourselves.
But I doubt he will even bother.
