You’ve probably wondered more than a few times where these student protestors and especially the Occupy Wall Street protestors get their crazy ideas. Well, look no further than the Marxist professors working in our universities. Just in time for Christmas, a Massachusetts professor is telling his colleagues that not only it is “shameful” to send care packages to troops, that hanging the American flag at the University should be questioned because it isn’t…politically neutral?.
Here’s the AP story on this….”A Suffolk University law professor will not collect items for United States troops overseas and thinks it is “shameful” to do so.
Constitutional law professor Michael Avery sent a five-paragraph e-mail to colleagues in response to a school-wide appeal for care packages for deployed soldiers.
“I think it is shameful that it is perceived as legitimate to solicit in an academic institution for support for men and women who have gone overseas to kill other human beings” wrote Avery.
Avery also wrote that he believes sympathy for troops in harms way is “not particularly rational in today’s world.”
The e-mail did not stop with Avery’s objection to the care packages. Avery went on to question the schools intent of the American flag hanging in the atrium:
“Since Sept. 11 we have had perhaps the largest flag in New England hanging in our atrium. This is not a politically neutral act. Excessive patriotic zeal is a hallmark of national security states. It permits, indeed encourages, excesses in the name of national security, as we saw during the Bush administration, and which continue during the Obama administration” wrote Avery.
The AP story concluded with this: “Although disgusting, Avery’s comments aren’t surprising. During my time at the University of Arizona, one of my political science professors said U.S. troops are the same as Islamic terrorists, calling it a “fact.” Like many liberal professors, Avery fails to recognize that the only reason why he has the opportunity to essentially accuse U.S. troops of murder, is because U.S. military members are overseas protecting his right to free speech.”
Here’s the bio on Avery:

Here’s what I am going to do and maybe you would like to do the same: I’m going to send this professor and email and express my opinion about his extreme stupidity and out of touch ideas. I want to ask him to do America a favor, quit his high paying job and leave the educating of our youth to someone more qualified.
His personal email address is: MAVERY@suffolk.edu
You might be interested to know that in Chico a local charter school, Montessori does not salute the flag. When a student asked to salute the flag he was told they say a pledge to the earth instead and that he could display his flag at recess only. He wasn’t even allowed to have his flag on his desk.
This is publicly funded charter school. A public school and the students there do not learn or say the Pledge of Allegiance. This is in Chico and it is happening right now.
I wonder if this guy is inline for a death threat from our local death threat expert? Somehow I think not.
Avery: “I think it is shameful that it is perceived as legitimate to solicit in an academic institution for support for men and women who have gone overseas to kill other human beings.”
I think it’s shameful that in America it is perceived as legitimate to have professors in an academic institution that are allowed to poison students minds and besmirch the character of men and women who serve in our military.
Toby, don’t worry, I am sure this professor will receive plenty of death threats for his statements.
As a college student, I have to say, most of my professors who have taught on anything related to this subject have expressed some healthy skepticism toward the military. But I haven’t heard any of them say anything like this. I personally find his statements over the top, offensive, and counter-productive to any kind of rational dialogue.
“The AP story concluded with this: “Although disgusting, Avery’s comments aren’t surprising ….”
Huh?
You got a link to this, cause the AP don’t go around characterizing stuff as “disgusting” or anything else. Sounds like another of your editorial writers mascarading as a journalist. Are you ever going to get clear on this particular concept?

Point of clarification, the AP only carried the story I read which quoted another writer. It wasn’t the AP saying this, sorry if I wrote it in a way that was confusing.
Jack the way I read it is that AP carried the story about the email. All kinds of news outlets use the AP as a source. This story could turn up on CBS, Fox or any other news outlet including blogs like ours and result in an aside or opinion being expressed by the person reading or writing about the story.
What difference does it make? People commenting on the event are not reporting facts. Clearly “disgusting” is an opinion no matter who says it or what the source!
Chris, nice try but that does not come close to answering my question. I am not holding my breath waiting for an answer anyway.
Avery is just another dirt bag fouling the halls of academia with half-baked nonsense that is “not particularly rational in today’s world.”
And besides which, you have posted some opinion piece on the doings of some obscure hoohah who is entirely entitled to his opinion and to broadcast it in all the emails he pleases.
Do you really think it would be so hard for me to troll the postings of George Mason University until I found something likely.
Why do you waste our time?
Toby, I’m confused, were you asking me a question? I thought it was directed toward Quentin.
Waste of time? Libs, this is national news story that went viral several hours after I put it up. It’s a big story. Go ahead, troll the halls of George Mason, bet you won’t find anything comparable.
I agree Chris, you are confused, on a great many things.
The professor should be elevated to a job more fitting for his views – like janitor.
Actually I think we should take up a collection, buy him a one way ticket to his old alma mater, the University of Moscow.
Well, thanks for the straightforward and respectful reply, Toby. You could have just answered whether you were asking me a question or whether you were asking Quentin, but that would be treating me too much like a human being, I guess.
Re Libby’s: “Why do you waste our time?”
Which begs the question, why are you wasting your time reading it and responding with your usual, wasted, dour complaints?
I don’t see anyone forcing you to read it, Dearie.
(snip)
Actually most of those care packages never make it to the troops anyway. (Sorry grandma,I’ll bet the cookies were delicious) The logistics and cost make it impractical.
Re Steve’s: Actually most of those care packages never make it to the troops anyway. (Sorry grandma,I’ll bet the cookies were delicious) The logistics and cost make it impractical.
Baloney Steve. Do you have real evidence of that? (Rhetorical question, of course you do not.) What mother or grandmother could create a person like you who would say such a thing? Your parents and grandparents, like you, must be a real piece of work.
Sorry grandma, but your snot nosed kid is a hideous failure with an axe to grind. He has no honor, he has no soul. Just like Professor Avery.

Law Professor Quits Job After Colleague Calls Care Packages for U.S. Troops ‘Shameful’

Re Toby’s: “I agree Chris, you are confused, on a great many things.”
Second that.
Also, it appears that Chris expects to be treated better here than the way he treats others.
Funny how that works, no? It must be a progressive thang.
