When It’s a Deliberate Injury is it a Crime?

by Bud Biddle, Chief of Police, CA -R

While I’m not much of a sports fan I am a retired police official from California. When I read the data, coming from at least 2 New York Giant’s players about their team allegedly targeting 49er player Kyle Williams for injury…[-due to his past brain concussions/injuries-]…allegedly to “knock him out of the game”….I was incensed beyond belief. (the 188 lb, 5-10, Williams shown in air on left)

PARTIAL ARTICLE:….”According to a couple of Giants special teams players, their unit targeted San Francisco 49ers punt returner Kyle Williams for big hits because he had a history of concussions, New York Magazine reported. The hope was to knock him out of the game. Although Williams never left the game, his muff of a punt in the fourth quarter and his fumble on a punt return”…see article below:

I feel that the San Francisco County CA District Attorney, Gascone, should immediately begin a local investigation in conjunction with the California Attorney General, the NFL and the FBI to determine what kinds of laws/rules were possibly broken by the New York Giants Team or any of it’s players/managers/coaches. At the least, if it is true, the felonious crimes of conspiracy to assault with the intent to do bodily harm to another may have occurred.

If the NFL quickly finds that the data is true and involves the managers/coaches, et al, then the New York Giants should be barred from playing in the upcoming Super Bowl.

The entire matter may ultimately belong in the hands of a San Francisco County or Federal Grand Jury elsewhere, as a comprehensive investigation would determine. If these allegations are true this illegal act or acts are likely the most egregious ever encountered in the annals of professional sports in modern times.
