From Bill “the sign man”
Fifty plus years have gone by, but GM finally answered Ford’s Edsel with the Chevy Volt. The major difference between the two FAILURES is the fact that Ford lost IT’S OWN MONEY where GM (GOVERNMENT MOTORS) is losing TAXPAYER DOLLARS. With its first suspension of the plants operation (with probably other interruptions to come later) one can only hope it won’t torture and punish the taxpayers for the same 3 years the Edsel hung on before being laid to rest. On the other hand if you buy one and hold on to it for 50+ years it could be a collectors item, provided you can get it to the Barrett Jackson Auction.
Someone should tell Bill that our government has been selling off its stake in GM, recouping our investment, and all is right with the world.
GM will work the bugs out of its battery, and if you want to “buy American”, you’ll by the Volt … or a Prius made in Tennesee.
Tee-Hee.
1300 jobs are lost in the process. Just what they need in Detroit.
The company hoped to build 60K and sell 45K of them this year. They’ve only sold a little more than 1600 so far this year.
Progressives are bad money managers and lousy shoppers!
I am not a Ford man, but I always has a thing for the Edsel Corsair. That and The Homer.

I would take an Edsel over a Volt all day long and twice on Sunday. That is not to say that GM has not and does not make some fine automobiles they have just made some really poor business decisions that landed them in bed with Obama and company. I never could find out what the expected average operating live of the batteries in a Volt is anyone know? Oh and what are the costs of replacing those batteries? Are the batteries covered by the warranty? Can you just chuck them in your garbage can like a couple of AA’s or do they have some sort of disposal fee/tax on them?
Could it be that Obama has so much of our money and his political clout invested in the Volt, that is why he does not care and truth be told needs the price of gas to hit $5 a gallon?
Toby we are required to dispose of batteries at bat recycling centers (at least in California). There’s a place at the airport. Don’t know if chucking it in the garage will pass muster with the enviro cops…beware giving out personal info.
Here’s some info for you:

Murphys Law: Battery will die at 10 years one day ; )
Sounds like BS to me. Are the US tax payers subsidizing the cost of the Volt or maybe the cost of the batteries and that is why they will not cough up the actual numbers? I mean how can the not have the actual cost of the battery packs? Buying a Volt is just like electing Obama president, most people were clueless as to what they were getting and sorry after the fact. The “performing flawlessly” thing is that between fires?
Other than honestly saying I would drive an Edsel over a Volt, I have not provided any personal info.
“Sounds like BS to me. Are the US tax payers subsidizing the cost of the Volt or maybe the cost of the batteries and that is why they will not cough up the actual numbers?”
But they have. Your persistence in believing the contrary is the very definition of prejudice.
What’s to be done?
