WARNING – GRAPHIC VIOLENCE
Channon Gail Christian, 21, and Hugh Christopher Newsom, Jr., 23, were a couple from Knoxville, Tennessee. They were both raped, tortured and murdered after being kidnapped early on the morning of January 7, 2007. Their vehicle had been carjacked. Five suspects were arrested and charged in the case. The grand jury indicted four of the suspects on counts of murder, robbery, kidnapping, rape and theft. Three of those arrested, Letalvis D. Cobbins, Lemaricus Davidson and George Thomas, have been convicted on multiple charges including several counts of felony murder.
After a jury trial Lemaricus Davidson was sentenced to death by lethal injection and Letalvis Cobbins and George Thomas were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Vanessa Coleman has been convicted of facilitating the crimes and sentenced to 53 years in prison, and Eric Dewayne Boyd has been convicted of federal charges as accessory after the fact to carjacking and sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The national news media was criticized for allegedly ignoring the story because the victims were white and the suspects black.

The media seems to report only the sensational crimes that fit their agenda, Political correctness is killing the news.
2 examples: 13 year old white kid was set on fire by two black kids, they said”You get what you deserve white boy”.
This story covered mostly local only, was picked up by talk radio. Nothing major happened.
Second example was the story of Matthew Shepherd, this story was ginned up so much a movie was made about this horrific crime. The people who killed him said they did not know he was gay.
A few months later Jesse Dirkhising was kidnapped, drugged, sodomised and murdered,Jesse was a teen, the men who did this to him were gay.
The difference in the reporting was nothing short of irresponsible hypocritical.
both of these stories ar eon line, just google if you need more details.
I think the point of the Trayvonn Martin case was that the perpetrator was not arrested. The media was not outraged at the crime, because as these stories show, horriffic violence is not unusual. What made the Martin/Zimmerman situation worthy of media attention was Florida’s Stand Your Ground Law and the fact that a kid who was walking back to the house he was staying at was killed by a neighborhood watch person who was not charged for any crime. It did not start out as a race issue, people would have been outraged no matter what. The outrage came from the fact that a kid was killed and the killer was not charged. The media turned it into a race/hoodie issue when they put any moron with any opinion on television to blab their opinion about it.
And this is what journalism has become in the 21st century. The left waits until their pundits tell them what to think and the right does the same thing. Only the Miami Herald actually reported any news, every network just put the same “experts” out that have opinions about everything and then the story takes off.
Here’s another the media failed to hype:
http://thenewamerican.com/usnews/crime/11379-sharpton-jackson-media-silent-about-hate-crime-in-sc
Six black men assaulted a white man outside a restaurant in Seneca, S.C. on March 17 after insulting him with a racial remark. Such was the severity of the beating and obvious racial motive that local police have referred the case to federal officials. However, contrary to their usual reaction in such matters, the national media have yet to jump on the case, and civil rights leaders have said nothing about it. The leftist medias and civil rights groups’ silence on the subject stands in sharp contrast to their handling of the tragic killing of Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26 in Sanford, Florida.
The case will go to Eric Holders office…will it matter? He’s all in for racial preference, advantage, redistribution and payback. In reference to when affirmative action should end he said: “The question is not when does it end, but when does it begin[.] … When do people of color truly get the benefits to which they are entitled?”

“Three of those arrested,”
This seems to answer the question posed in the title.
If Zimmerman had been arrested, there would be minimal protest, and thus, minimal media coverage. People want justice served, and whether you agree with them or not, there are a lot of people who feel like it hasn’t been in the Trayvon Martin case.
The media can’t spend time covering every horrific tragedy or brutal murder that occurs. There are, unfortunately, too many of those in our country. The media does give more coverage to stories that have some kind of notable social, political, or national significance, because those are the stories that are going to get them the best ratings. Whether you think the allegations of racism in the Trayvon Martin case have merit or not, they have been made, and were picking up steam even before the MSM began paying attention to the case. It makes sense to me that this case would get more media attention than the one featured in this article, not because of a political bias in the media, but because of a bias toward stories that are most controversial. What’s controversial about the case in this article? Are there a lot of people arguing that the three sadists who murdered this couple are innocent? I don’t think so. The media has a bias toward ratings. It’s that simple, in my opinion.
To the mainstream media this is not a crime worth reporting or if it was reported it would only be reported to excuse the perpetrators.
If you want to see the direction this country is headed just look at what is happening in South Africa. You will be horrified.
I can offer a few possible (probable?) answers to the question.
A. Certain elements in the media are in the bag for the President and this story has potential to help in the election.
B. There isn’t a race issue to exploit for the likes of Sharpton/Jackson, et al in the case featured in this article; there is in the Martin case (President shores up his black voter base)
C. There isn’t a gun element to exploit in this case (Nothing to spark the anti-gun voter); in the Martin case there is.
D. Timing is everything…the Martin case is a month old…Houlder is being pressured on Fast and Furious… This case takes F&F (Houlder) out of the public eye. Helps Holder and Obama re-election chances.
E. Timing is everything. High gas prices and unemployment…oh…yeah…remember that?
F. This case buys nothing…lacks opportunity element; Martin case is a good fund raising tool.
G. Martin case offers possibility to exploit “racist” talk radio…didn’t materialize…in fact it may have backfired.
H. Martin case: Somebody must think the Hispanic vote in Florida is already lost.
I’m just sayin.
“Five suspects were arrested and charged in the case.”
That would be why we are talking garden variety carnage … five suspects were arrested and charged.
Still … you do not get it?
I have only seen this story twice, once about a week ago and here. Did these animals get charges with hate crimes?
Haha you folks are missing the point… Take this story and switch the races… 5 white people savagely rape and murder a black couple! You have got the makings of a media storm. You know it, I know it… Stop pretending that this Treyvon case is special because we both know it is NOT. Read some news articles from around the country.. Many black youth are killing one another and some even get away with it.. Throw a white man in the mix and it will be broadcasted immediately. Whether or not the watchman racially targeted Treyvon is no different than the media racially profiling news to broadcast. Black america needs to get over itself. Not everything is racially motivated! Many criminals get away with crime regardless of what that crime may be. If you people are going to speak out against the lack of justice, you had better stop being hypocritical and do it for all cases!! Just because the kid was black… SHAME ON YOU GUYS.
Anonymous…huh? Who is the “we” in we better speak out for justice for all races? You can’t mean us…do you? That’s exactly what we do here, we’ve got no end of articles saying exactly that position.
Libby charged with what? Can you make the case? Do you have the evidence to make the case? Will it stand up in court? Or would you just be wasting the peoples money!
That is the POINT! There is, according to the evidence and the DA’s office, NO CASE to prosecute.
You want to dispute that (they are) fine; but at this point there was nothing for which to hold the man.
In the case above there was evidence, they did prosecute, and the bunch paid dearly.
Geeeeez you are thick!
Tina: “I can offer a few possible (probable?) answers to the question.”
Tina, what exactly is it about the explanations offered by Princess, Libby, and me that you find insufficient? Do you think the explanations we’ve given are illogical? Or are they just too boring and non-political? Do you not believe these explanations because they don’t fit into your narrative of a sinister, reverse-racist media?
I just don’t see the value in leaping right over rational explanations without even considering them before jumping to conspiracy theories. I don’t see the value in always assuming the worst in those whom you perceive as your ideological opponents. There are legitimate reasons why the Trayvon Martin story became a big news story, and the one highlighted in this article did not. Many of us have already given you those reasons. Before we start considering any of the eight conspiracy theories you presented, you need to give us a reason why you don’t think the answers we have presented are valid.
