They say our character is defined by how we behave when nobody is looking. Fair enough, but that’s not the whole story. Character, or the lack thereof, can also be defined by how we behave when faced with peer pressure, (going along to get along) and sometimes it’s defined by what you are willing to do to win elections. Character in candidates is a prized commodity with the voters and it’s a shame that character is too often sacrificed on the chopping block of expediency.
We’ve seen way too many candidates or their handlers willing to do and say whatever it takes to win. Most of us would prefer to be win the right way or not at all.
A local example of bad politics happened just a few days ago. During the late night hours between April 13th and 14th someone placed fliers around Chapman Town (a minority area in South Chico) that said basically that the Tea Party and Klu Klux Klan were having a rally to boot the president out of Washington because he was black. This was a flagrant and malicious lie designed to stir up racial tensions, and thankfully nobody fell for it. Sadly, it’s not the first time this has happened and it probably won’t be the last, because there will always be hateful, twisted people among us… willing to do whatever it takes.
We’ve all seen too much of the haters this year and this is not us, this not America! We’re a thousand times better than that. The majority of us Americans just want to live decent, honorable lives, get our country back on track and hopefully put some really good people into elected office. Anything beyond that, like mudslinging or those stupid posters, are not wanted or welcome. Be sure and remind our candidates of what “we the people” want (and need) whenever you get the chance. Character counts.
I’ve been a Christian since childhood, a grandmother for ten years, a NASCAR fan ten years (Go Jamie MacMurry #1)and concerned about the direction our country is going since 2007.
I am outraged after receiving an email about a NASCAR driver who is campaigning to, “Get Out the Vote,” because of his love for America and to register one million voters. He’s not promoting either party, but because his personal website says he’s a Christian ESPN dropped his ad.
This young man is being discriminated against only because he’s a Christian. There’s a recorded message from ESPN stating their unbelievable reason.
Talk about attacking someone’s character. I can’t believe it’s become wrong to want to WORK for a better life for yourself and your children without giving half to those who believe they are entitled to it, and not be able to run a non-partisan ad just because you’re a Christian.
Here are the links. God help us!!
Fox and Friend Interview:
“I hope everyone agrees that my personal faith shouldn’t have an effect on weather or not my sponsor can air a commercial.”

Full Story Here:
“Koch has teamed up with his sponsor, the Rise Up and Register campaign, in an effort to inspire greater political efficacy. But in an interview on FOX & Friends, Koch explained that a television ad he appeared in for the campaign never aired, as he alleges that ESPN rejected it based on purported political and religious overtones.
Koch told host Brian Kilmeade that ESPN relayed a message that the ad was pulled because of the religious undertones on his own web site. But the race-car driver reiterated that his ad was only intended to register one million people to vote. The effort, Koch said, wasnt tied to any party or candidate.”

Hey, Colonel. Haven’t seen ya in awhile. Original Recipe or Extra Crispy?
Soaps, hardy, har… hey, just consider that the more of my face I can cover up the better I look. But, if you like this one just wait till you see my Santa Claus look.
It seems that we have no idea who put the signs up. It could have been someone who hates the Tea Party, it also could have been a “false flag” type operation. We don’t know, and therefore can’t draw any conclusions on what the intention of the signs were.
Actually Jim we pretty much do know who put the fliers up and I assure you, it was not a false flag event. No matter what you think of the Tea Party they are not that stupid and that low, but the person we have in mind is and he’s done it before.
Peggy that poor Christian fellow has another strike against him…he bears the same name as one of the most hated couple of brothers in liberal progressive circles.
Soaps you are a clever man!
My first thought was that it was some kind of a college prank. The printing looks like high quality, more than a cheap home made sign.
I was not suggesting that it was done the Tea Party as a whole. However every group has a few extremists. “False Flag” type stunts have been done by both left and right wing groups for years.
If you have evidence of who put up the signs, then they should be arrested and prosecuted.
Jim we have spoken with police about this and at the moment they are not inclined to arrest this person because of a rather liberal interpretation of the 1st amendment…meaning anyone can say anything about a public group and get away with it. Even posting on a public property is an offense, but they really are not interested in pursuing such a complaint. Too petty.
A quote from Samuel Adams on character seemed appropriate.
“Nothing is more essential to the establishment of manners in a State than that all persons employed in places of power and trust be men of unexceptionable characters. The public cannot be too curious concerning the character of public men.”
[Samuel Adams, The Writings of Samuel Adams, Harry Alonzo Cushing, editor (New York: G.P. Putnam’s Sons, 1907), Vol. III, p. 236-237, to James Warren on November 4, 1775.]
