It’s interesting that Chicago’s Mayor, Rahm Emanuel-D, would refer to his city’s recent wave of violence as a cultural problem. The violence has been endemic among it’s black population who are both suspects and victims of mostly gang violence. This is unusually blunt talk from a man consider to be extremely leftwing. Wonder what culture he was talking about? Was it the “Culture of Corruption”, the “Chicago-style politics”, or the long standing organized crime in Chicago? Maybe it was the rough culture that came from living in the government housing projects? Kids growing up in Chicago have no end of bad examples to follow.
IF they only had a Community Organizer, someone untouched by corruption of working for a living, someone who has spent his whole time in college on a free ride, but I digress.
During an interview with Scott Pelly, he also said “And it is about values. As I said then [when a 7-year-old girl was shot and killed last month], who raised you? How were you raised? And I don’t buy this case where people say they don’t have values. They do have values. They have the wrong values. Don’t come near the kids — don’t touch them.”
Emanuel and the police superintendent defended their new gang-fighting strategy Monday amid growing criticism that the changes are failing and it’s a big reason why the city’s homicide rate has soared this year, up 38% YTD
Gangs, the mayor said, “will not find shelter in the city of Chicago.” So far his words have not translated into results.
