Almost all of this was just this month, whatever happened to our nice little town?
simple Jack – the cops are trying to punish us for suggesting they give up structured overtime and use it to hire more officers. They want a bigger budget for the police department, and if they don’t get it, they won’t do their jobs.
Ask yourself – is there really more crime in Chico, or is the Enterprise Record just enlisted itself to help the cops by FINALLY reporting the crime in Chico?
By the way, my next door neighbor was hit by the “clown bandit” – remember him? He was never caught.
Juanita, knowing law enforcement as I do I would have to take exception to your remarks and strong disagree. I also don’t think the E-R would for a second conspire with anyone for any sort of trickery, cops or otherwise.
I also just heard that Quentin Colgan passed away. Is this true?
We’ve had no confirmation on that yet. We will advise as soon as we hear something. I hope it’s not true. -Jack
I just popped over to the ER to see if they had anything more on Mr. Colgan’s passing … no … but a shocking lot of other fascinating things: a CHP officer with child porn, south asian gangsters with a big pot grow, somebody got to wrestle a burgler for 20 minutes before the cops showed up, and everybody’s crashing their cars into everybody else.
It’s getting much too busy up there.
Libby, something has changed in Chico and we’ll never be the sleepy little place that once housed the Chico Normal School for Nursing.
I’d sure like to know what is going on. My hunch is that getting serious about the marijuana problem would eliminate about 50% of these incidents; banning pornography would put a huge dent in sex crimes across the board; and getting CSUC to clean up its ultra-permissive liberal culture would take care of the rest.
Ehhh … child porn is already illegal, which did not seem to bother the CHP officer much.
Law enforcement isn’t gonna do it, so what will persuade people that they would rather tackle the over-grown hedge than curl up with a joint?
I think a lot of it is that way too many people have no over-grown hedge to tackle … if you get where I’m going, metaphorically speaking … something of their own to invest themselves in and the means to do it.
[Though a certain percentage of sicko, psycho cops is just a given, in any society.]
Libby, if you read the story, you will note that child porn was a miniscule percentage of all the porn found in his possession. “Adult” porn is the gateway to child porn and the fuel behind most sex crimes. Our refusal to deal with porn as a society has been devastating.
As for pot, we’re just not serious about it and never have been. We need to punish growers and dealers severely, first offense. It’s not rocket science.
As for overgrown hedges, you’ve certainly got a point there, but the solutions are more cultural and spiritual than legal/political.
