Celebrating the 4th the American Way!

2976-4thof July-thumb-525x214-2975.jpg

Happy 4th everyone. As is our family tradition, we break out our toys, all purchased legally under the protection of the second amendment. Then we fire off a few rockets, launch a few grenades and charge through a few thousand rounds of ammo. It’s our way of saying, “We’re independent and proud of it!”

Independence Day 2010

2973-Liberty-Fourth_of_July_fireworks_behind_the_Washington_Monument,_1986.jpg

“There is a two-fold liberty, natural (I mean as our nature is now corrupt) and civil or federal. The first is common to man with beasts and other creatures. By this, man, as he stands in relation to man simply, hath liberty to do what he lists; it is a liberty to evil as well as to good. This liberty is incompatible and inconsistent with authority and cannot endure the least restraint of the most just authority. The exercise and maintaining of this liberty makes men grow more evil and in time to be worse than brute beasts: omnes sumus licentia deteriores. This is that great enemy of truth and peace, that wild beast, which all of the ordinances of God are bent against, to restrain and subdue it. The other kind of liberty I call civil or federal; it may also be termed moral, in reference to the covenant between God and man, in the moral law, and the politic covenants and constitutions between men themselves. This liberty is the proper end and object of authority and cannot subsist without it; and it is a liberty to that only which is good, just and honest. This liberty you are to stand for, with the hazard (not only of your goods, but) of your lives if need be.” – John Winthrop, 1645

* omnes sumus licentia deteriores – too much freedom debases us *

The seeds of our liberty were planted long before our founding. Let us celebrate the blessings of liberty together on his great day being ever mindful of the personal responsibilities and duties such blessings require of each of us. To all of you, our loyal friends and contributors, may the blessings of this great nation last because of how you conduct your lives and how you inspire others to live. Civility and patriotism are the gatekeepers of liberty.

Jack, Steve and Tina wish all of you a very Happy 4th of July.

Arnold Friberg, best known for his painting of George Washington praying at Valley Forge during the American Revolutionary War, has died aged 96. ** He died at a rehabilitation centre in Salt Lake City after hip replacement surgery, his daughter-in-law said. ** The Prayer at Valley Forge, painted for the US bicentennial in 1976, is on display at Washington’s former home, the Mount Vernon estate in Virginia. ** The picture depicts the first US president during the winter of 1777-78.

Republican Plan for America’s Future

2972-elephant2.jpg

Posted by Tina

Republicans are accused of being critical (we are) of the current administration while offering no alternative proposals of their own (a lie). The following page is indicative of Republican solutions and proposals. I believe these ideas are worthy of your consideration and offer a few excerpts:

A Roadmap for America’s Future – Congressman Paul Ryan

HEALTHCARE: The plan ensures universal access to affordable health insurance by restructuring the tax code, allowing all Americans to secure affordable health plans that best suit their needs, and shifting the ownership of health coverage away from the government and employers to individuals.
Provides a refundable tax credit – $2,300 for individuals and $5,700 for families – to purchase coverage in any State, and keep it with them if they move or change jobs.
Provides transparency in health care price and quality data, making this critical information readily available before someone needs health services.
Creates state-based health care exchanges, so individuals and families have a one-stop marketplace to purchase affordable health insurance without being discriminated against based on pre-existing conditions.
Equips states with tools like auto-enrollment programs and high-risk pools, so affordable health coverage can be accessed by all.
Addresses health care’s growing strain on small businesses, by allowing them to pool together nationally to offer coverage to their employees.
Encourages the adoption of health information technology and assists states in establishing solutions to medical malpractice litigation.

SOCIAL SECURITY: The proposal strengthens this important retirement program and makes it sustainable for the long term.
Preserves the existing Social Security program for those 55 or older.
Offers workers under 55 the option of investing over one third of their current Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts, similar to the Thrift Savings Plan available to Federal employees. Includes a property right so they can pass on these assets to their heirs, and a guarantee that individuals will not lose a dollar they contribute to their accounts, even after inflation.
Makes the program permanently solvent – according to the Congressional Budget Office [CBO] – by combining a more realistic measure of growth in Social Security’s initial benefits, with an eventual modernization of the retirement age.

TAX REFORM: This plan discards a needlessly complex and manipulative tax code, replacing it with a simplified mechanism that promotes work, saving, and investment.
Provides individual income tax payers a choice of how to pay their taxes – through existing law, or through a highly simplified code that fits on a postcard with just two rates and virtually no special tax deductions, credits, or exclusions (except the health care tax credit).
Simplifies tax rates to 10 percent on income up to $100,000 for joint filers, and $50,000 for single filers; and 25 percent on taxable income above these amounts. Also includes a generous standard deduction and personal exemption (totaling $39,000 for a family of four).
Eliminates the alternative minimum tax [AMT].
Promotes saving by eliminating taxes on interest, capital gains, and dividends; also eliminates the death tax.
Replaces the corporate income tax – currently the second highest in the industrialized world – with a border-adjustable business consumption tax of 8.5 percent. This new rate is roughly half that of the rest of the industrialized world.

That last is the way to get Americans moving and back to work again to rebuild our economy and create opportunities for all.

Obama Spends Two Billion for 1500 Jobs!

2971-barack__obama gulf.jpg

In the histroy of the United States of America there has never been a more irresponsible man holding the presidency!

“Obama awards $2B for solar power, hails new jobs,” by Julie Pace – AP

WASHINGTON — The government is handing out nearly $2 billion for new solar plants that President Barack Obama says will create thousands of jobs and increase the use of renewable energy sources. ** The two companies that will receive the money from the president’s $862 billion economic stimulus are Abengoa Solar, which will build one of the world’s largest solar plants in Arizona, creating 1,600 construction jobs; and Abound Solar Manufacturing, which is building plants in Colorado and Indiana. The Obama administration says those projects will create more than 2,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent jobs.

Woo hoo! 2000 temporary jobs and a whopping 1500 permanent jobs and it will only cost us 2 billion dollars! What a genius! What a friggin miracle worker! What a complete moron!!!

Obama continues to sound upbeat about his recovery plan, a sad testament to his lack of knowledge about business and economics. (Or is it his sinister socialist plans for America?)

The truth contains some very bad news:

“Of the 15 million unemployed in America, over 7 million have been out of work for more than six months, nearly 5 million for a year and over 1 million for two years — the worst statistics since the government started keeping count in 1948. The proportion of the unemployed out of work for more than six months has doubled in the past year, to more than 46 percent. The jobseekers-to-jobs ratio, which tells how hard positions are to get, remains around 5.6 to 1.”

I repeat…TWO BILLION to create just 1500 permanent jobs!

This is our money, Mr. and Ms America, and it is not a good way to spend our money. It is, sadly, an incredibly inadequate method for incentivising the private sector to create jobs…the only sure way to put people back to work. But what the he** does he care…he’s spreading the wealth, rewarding his constituency, and appeasing voters like Mark who will no doubt believe the end justifies the means.

Secure Border?

We’re way beyond illegal crossings for work now!

Shootout at El Paso City Hall – IBD

National Security: In his speech Thursday, President Obama assured us that our “southern border is more se cure today than at any time in the past 20 years.” So why is El Paso’s City Hall taking fire from Mexico? ** The president made his pitch for “comprehensive immigration reform” by assuring us problems on the border were already taken care of, so the next course of action was a modified amnesty program for 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S. ** But a funny thing happened on the same day he was urging Americans to go along: El Paso’s City Hall found itself in a war zone as gunfire from the Mexican side from either traffickers or the Mexican lawmen trying to fight them pocked the edifice. News reports said as many as seven bullets hit the building. No one was hit — this time. ** It’s another sign of the horror in Mexico spilling onto the U.S. side. ** Further down the border on the same day, 12 miles from Nogales, Ariz., 21 people were massacred in a fight between rival smuggling gangs over the right of way to bring their illegal immigrant “shipments” and narcotics into the U.S. ** It all gives the president’s assurances to Americans that the border situation is being dealt with an aura of unreality. ** Statistics can be cut a number of ways, and some areas do have better border security. But the fact that it’s uneven has left other areas — such as the Arizona border, more vulnerable as traffickers fight over the last remaining routes with intensity. ** The U.S. has lost control of actual U.S. territory to drug and migrant smugglers as much as 80 miles inland in Arizona. Any American who enters this area risks being shot dead. ** The Falcon Dam on Texas’ lower Rio Grande was targeted for destruction by a Mexican cartel to destroy a rival’s drug and alien-smuggling route. Had the foiled plot succeeded, 4 million people could have ended up downriver with mass casualties and deaths. ** Arizona now has the second-highest kidnapping rate in the world, behind only Mexico City, with nearly all of it due to drug and migrant smugglers and their quests for cash and territory. ** Mass graves have been discovered in New Mexico, believed by lawmen to be the work of cartels.

More secure? Hardly!

Obama Health Care Reform Reality

There is no way Dr. Joseph Shanahan could bring himself to stop seeing Medicare patients. “My mother would kill me,” he said. But the Raleigh rheumatologist, who is also board certified in internal medicine, takes a huge financial hit by participating in the federal insurance program for older people. The program’s fees to doctors are already low, and a looming 21 percent cut would make a difficult situation worse. “Medicare cut scares doctors, patients,” by Sarah Avery – NewsObserver.com

Remember when Democrats said Republicans were going to take Medicare away from senior citizens to scare them into voting Democrat? Well the day that Medicare will be taken from seniors has arrived…it was delivered exclusively by Democrats. It will be a slow, agonizing death “by a thousand cuts”. Cuts in funding, cuts in timely services being rendered, cuts in percentages paid to doctors, cuts in available treatments and services, cuts in doctors, cuts…cuts…cuts!

There was, and is, a better way; it requires backing government out of the system gradually. It requires allowing doctors, instead of government, to make sound decisions for their patients, and it requires government making policies that encourge greater competition among insurers (instead of having polices that interfere in the free market and that protect insurance companies).

Arizona “Compassion for All” Initiative Fails

2968-petition2.jpg

The people of Arizona have spoken…by not signing:

“Effort to put Ariz. Immigration law on the ballot fails” – AP

The organizers of the “Compassion for all” campaign said in an Internet posting that they didn’t collect enough signatures and had closed out the campaign. They said they’d remain active in other activities to help the Hispanic community.

The thing that really stinks is the gross (purposeful) charges of racism that is always injected into the debate. It’s only purpose is to drive fear and hate in the Hispanic community. The issue is not race and never has been. The issue is safety for all Arizona citizens. The issue is societal respect for our laws.
The new lArizona law is compassionate! It is meant to better arm the men and women charged with upholding the laws of Arizona and our nation. These men and women are on the front lines in the quest to keep citizens and visitors safe. The new law also demands a greater level of civic responsibility…not only of those who live in Arizona, but of those who would like to live there.

BART Shooting Video

This is the video showing the shooting by a rookie police officer with about 24 months of experience. 5 years is considered the minimum time for officers to be fully competent in their duties. You can hear the noise of people yelling in the background, adding to tension and confusion of the moment of the shooting. Officers reacted stunned that a shot was fired because there was no reason for it. Clearly something went very wrong,
